Is that £11 for each bearing?

The bearings for Jeffs reel are 628 2zz they're tied down by standards. Pretty much any known make would do - Known makes being SKF, FAG, Torrington group etc.. You'll get bearings locally - saving on postage costs.

Think about it, even in the most extreme conditions the bearings in a centrepin are doing next to nothing.

But I am interested to see if putting some new bearings in this reel will improve its performance.

Jeff did you contact dragoncarp and tell them about it? They have a cracking after sales service as I have used it in the past and will probably tell you to send the reel back for a replacement at no cost to yourself...worth a try instead of buying new bearings.

No. It came through Used Tackle or at least that was on the invoice, but it's one of those things; I know it's not right, but someone could argue that they will "bed in" or something. A bit like in the film, 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly' where Tuco says "Every gun makes it's own sound."

I shan't worry about it George, as I said, in normal use you won't notice, it's only when you spin it hard. For the money it's a bargain and if I did change the bearings it would only be to see if new/better ones made any improvement to the performance.

I think all my bearing reels make wearing noises when spinning fast and seem to bump now and again (it must be normal or all mine are goosed) some worse than others but they carry on spinning for some time. Also you won't hear the noise during normal use as already you say.

Used tackle/dragoncarp its the same company Jeff, Ive just had a look at my invoice & I concur. But seriously give them a call if your not happy with it, there service is excellent and it will only cost the price of a phone call and your mind will be put at rest.

I too bought one of these reels. You cannot argue at that price. My only issue [and it is a very picky point for this budget] is that the drum is machined slightly eccentrically so there is a small amount f wobble at speeed. Beraings have minimal play, indeed i'd guess without taking it apart that it is the bores the bearings sit in that give the play. Bearing lock would probably cure this loctite 641 would be ideal. All in all this is a crazy price for the reel. I tested it out trotting a drennan 1 swan loafer, it pulled line freely in steady flow, in fact I'd say the guides and wet line held it's performance back if anything.
RSdo a pair of bearings in that size for £3.60 plus the vicious....

Mine turned up a few days ago, so very quick service. Mine spins smoothly and quietly, and tbh for a £30 I offer no critisicm at all. I may even load it with some 12lb flouro and stick it on my Barbel rod and give it a baptism of fire!

Cheers, Nick :)

I've ordered 2 so far. The first one that turned up looked like something very heavy had dropped on it from a great height, presumably in transit as one of the handles had punched through the bag and cardboard box and shipping packaging. The spindle was quite severely bent. I returned it to Dragon Carp who replaced it no questions asked and the new one runs silky and true.
No. 2 arrived yesterday and when I spun it up the spool was VERY out of balance, so much so that if placed on a flat surface when spinning at any speed it would dance around like a top. So this has gone back for a replacement.
I've fished (and caught) quite a few times with 'No.1' pin and it is a very good value bit of kit, though it seems though there is a big variance in the quality. Maybe these reels are 'seconds' hence the cheap price?

They certainly do seem to vary in build quality. Based on replies here more than a few have gone back. Mine is spot on now I've adjusted & oiled it...my mate's however is not as good. Its fine...but clearly not as good as mine.

It will never be more than a "spare" for me as I've other, better pins but I'm glad I got one and for the most part I'm perfectly happy with it. I suspect my other pins regard it as being a bit common.

Who is this Marco Cortesi anyway?

The best I've come up with is that he is a Swiss photographer.

Or a Swiss actor, a Swiss guitarist or an Italian actor.

Or a Jewish scientist.

the reel is named after the infamous hucknell icecream man who parks up outside the coarse shop in the summer ,who sell's a mean 99 ,with raspberry sause or sprinklies for a reasonable £1.50

A day of two firsts today :)

Finally christened my Ikonix centrepin and caught my first Grayling, very happy with this result :)

Spent the day on a "cheshire brook", my last visit too this venue saw a rising brook with a lot of cold ice water/snow melt and salt running through, i blanked of course. This time the brook was low and clear so a bit of a stealthy approach was needed. Trotted red maggots was the approach and i took 10 Grayling from about 8oz up to about a pound (lost just as many due to hook pulls) Had a bonus perch and 4 rogue out of season brownies, so all in all a good day was had.

How did the pin perform? Well apart from getting into a lot of tangles, (Im new to this trotting lark :wh) I cant fault the reels, lovely and smooth and a joy to play fish on. On the downside, a bit of a helping push of the rim was needed to get the spool going on slower paced swims. Overall im very impressed with my pin, cant wait to try it out on some stillwaters when the weather warms up :w

I just bought one of those centrepins,

it does not spin very free, and needs 7x BB shots just to get started and even then it needs some help.

Dragon carp says it does not reconize this problem en never have this issue before.

I think that is not true, as you will all now, seems like they just don't want to sent me a new one, as i`m in the netherlands.

i can sent the reel back, but further they can't help me.

What sould i do?

I've always thought you can spot a good centrepin on face value, especially if it looks happy...

Yes sent it back and get my money back sounds ok, but i bought a few other bits and pieces.
So that will be to exspensive as i then paid allot of postage costs that will make these items to exspensive, i could have bought them in the netherlands for less.

I just want them to replace it with a good one.
