I canot speak for Bob or any of the other members of the DVSG but I think they would agree with my points.

We the DVSG are anglers.

Fair comment Lee.
It's just that I don't want to see your letter put at the back of the list, of which I am sure there will be many. It is the angling groups that will be taken more notice of. Bob has a big name in angling. I would have thought the more weight behind what you have written the better. And he obviously has the contacts.

You have a few yourself, and the more the merrier.

Very true Chris, and also on other matters. Let's start with this one.

I care and agree Chris believe me, but how can "we" unite when a world match angling champion makes a statement like that?

The rest of the match angling world will probably agree with him and start to do what he says.

The other side of the coin is that Nudd could have made these comments behind closed doors, then nobody would have been any the wiser as to what could possibly have happened.

Surely he is intelligent enough to realise by going public with his comments that his band of followers will secretly bow to his wishes.
Or maybe he thought he was so big in the angling world that nobody would challenge anything that he said.

The Madness of Poor King Bob.

It's more like a Des Taylor, close season, lets get the letters page buzzing type of comment.

And of course, if a Match orientated club decided to listen to this lunatic and do a bit of Pike culling on their own waters with permission from the E.A. who would there be to stop them?

Let us not forget that when committees get it into their heads that there are too many Carp in one water and not enough Roach in another, they simply get the relevent papers to add or take as they please.

What say does the average angler have in all this? None whatsoever.

Great letter Lee, I doubt they'll print it though. Too long and intelligently thought out for the news of the screws. What we need is a letter campaign along the lines of Jasons effort. Seems his famous white hat hides the fact that he's now sadly brainless as well as hairless.

Just hope we can all try and avoid a mud slinging event. That will help no-one.

Keep the PAC's voice a good, sensible one and angling will be the winner.

The more people who see the PAC as an organsiation that is level headed and approachable the better. That is surely the way forward.

Keep up the good work guys.

Come off it guys. Give match anglers some credit.

To claim any number of matchmen are suddenly going to start lobbing pike up the bank, up and down the country, because of this is ridiculous.

There's an eliment of selfish, stupid people in every branch of angling and the speci world is probably as bad as any. They can hardly claim they aren't in it for points, numbers and bragging rights, either.

Dispute his opinion by all means, but why then start having a go at match anglers in general??

Rodney mentions barbel being thrown up the bank.

Yes Rodney it has happened.

About 6 years ago I was on a well known stretch of the Tidal Trent. I got there towards the end of a match. My ploy was to move in when the match boys moved off.

All the matchmen were fishing the same way - maggot feeders and quiver tips with maggots on fine hooklengths.

On angler hooked a barbel. It wasn't a big one but it took him 25 minutes or so to land. The time he spent playing it was accompanied by all sorts of foul language emanating from his mouth. Then another angler hooked and lost a barbel.

Then the whistle blew.

The comments from the match anglers, embroided by the foulest language imaginable were generally about blaming those who stocked the river with barbel!

The scalesman stopped at one of them who had two barbel of about 4 lbs each in his net.

After weighing the fish, the "angler" drop kicked both barbel up the bank!!

Later that afternoon I moved in when they had gone and examined both dead barbel. In both cases the first spine of the dorsal had been broken and the fish were in a sorry state.

I'm glad to report that I never saw anything like this since.

Good call from one or two to keep this debate sensible and level-headed.

Lower it to the gutter and no one will pay any attention to it; it'll just be yet another mindless rant by 'that mob on the internet'.

Bob Nudd hasn't suddenly become a poor angler, or a brainless idiot.

What he has done is make a thoughtless, selfish remark that does neither him nor angling any good whatsoever. Whether the remark was made to sell more copies of a Sunday newspaper that thrives on sensationalism, or was a genuine opinion of Nudd I don't know.

What I do know is that we can now demonstrate (as we are) that we can pull together and fight these attitudes that threaten to return us to the bad old days of predator prejudice. The PAC have come out fighting and we should make sure our fight doesn't degenerate into a tirade of petty insults that serve only to give ammunition to 'the enemy'.

sorry paul but on this point i disagree, the people with that sort of mentality do exist in certain parts of the country. They will act on it, pike will be killed indiscriminately.

if some one can make these comments publicly then it also begs the question how long have they been making them privately and to what groups of people.

bob is an influential person in some circles and to make this comment is at best ill considered.

"We don't make comments about match anglers cramming 60lbs of fish in keepnets."
