I remember trying to buy a shop display Duracell rabbit at Schipol. I'd had a bit to drink so I offered this shopkeeper the equivalent of Graham's bait bill for a decade. Didn't work though, the rabbit stayed Dutch. Nothing to do with FM caps but it shows the demand is often there for items difficult to get.
