Hello all,
I wondered what size, make and type/pattern of hook people would recommend for fishing squeezed on bread flake for chub on a small river, I have some Korda Mixa size 8 hooks which should do the job, but would like to get others thoughts on what they rate as ideal hooks for bread.

Cheers - Michael.

Drennan wide gape specialist for me. Size 8 or 10. These are not long in the shank so an 8 will take quite a small piece of flake. They are not heavy in the wire like many Carp hooks but are plenty strong enough for Chub and have landed me Barbel into double figures. I have used the 10 for floater fishing for Carp this summer just gone and had Carp to 22 plus on them. Cheap and reliable.
Can't go wrong.

OK question for NottsKev.
Kev, Those 983s. They have a turned back eye. I have always assumed these back turned types were for hair rigging. How do they hook when not hair rigged? Same as a straight eye? Any thoughts?

Hi Pete,
I went and had a look when I read your question. They're not turned back to any great degree, but they are indeed turned back.
I have to confess I barely considered that; I just tie them on straight through on 4lb Maxima and they work well. I was in a TS asking about some kind of "medium strong" wide gape hooks for chub of 3-4lb and the bloke who worked there - we all knew he was a very good angler, caught loads of good fish and knew the in's and out's of the tackle market - fished these out straight away and said I use these. I doubt you'd regret giving them a try.
