After a disappointing Christmas period so far due to a bad back which meant zero hours fishing, I was determined to go today.
Armed with a pint of white maggots for the fish and Tramadol for me, I headed to a favourite spot on the Wandle looking for some Dace and secretly hoping a Chub or two would turn up.
I had two new bits of kit to try out, a really small alloy stem stick float and my 9ft Shakespeare Agility wand rod. Well ****** me, on arrival I realised I'd not brought any float rubbers (blame the Tramadol) so no trotting today.
Instead I set up the wand with one of the lightest tips, 3lb line, size 18 hook with BB shot to enable me to flick it out. Single maggot on the hook and I was good to go.
So new I hadn't even taken the shrink wrap off:
My view down the Wandle, complete with dumped suitcase (humanity pisses me off sometimes
):
Wasn't long before the first dace showed up:
Then they got a little bigger:
Then all hell broke loose and I was scrambling for my landing net. Small chub I thought at first, but no just a dace on steroids. Probably 8 - 10 oz:
Finally to top off a cracking day, had a nice silvery blue gudgeon. Lovely:
