I'd have bust my foot if I'd tried it mate, it was a big old bruiser.

Before Judge Crabtree - Jeffreys starts handing out his awards, it was the chub that gave a kick and a splash NOT me however hard I tried to make it appear otherwise......:D

I had to read it twice and got your drift so no awards today....:)

Next time maybe....

SLEDs and a mouse? You've got me scratching my head, Blackout.
I got a set of 3 blind mice, so I thought I'd see how they run lol

The set I got are mouse shaped SLED's they run up the line when you get a fish on.

Managed to get to the Lower Trent for the first time yesterday due to family commitments.

I had wanted to go float fishing but the wind was just too strong for me. I did something I havn't done for ages though. Feeder fished a river for silvers.
Despite the wind lousing up bite registration I managed quite a few roach and perch.
Considering how many sucked maggots I got and couldnt see the bites I think there are more roach than people think back living in the Trent.
Not all barbel or bust!

I had another trotting session along the overgrown stream today between 10am & 3pm. A most enjoyable few hours taking roach, some chub/lets and a few perch. No pictures this time for a couple of reasons. Firstly, there’s plenty on the thread that I’ve posted already over the last few weeks and secondly, err....I forgot the camera.................

Struggling for a bit of motivation for some bizarre reason. Managed to get my backside in gear to get some bait in, but left it late. On the return journey, I stopped off at a handy point to see the river. Surprisingly, it was fairly well up and coloured. Nipped back home to decant about a pint of maggots and grab some kit.

I arrived at around six and fished my favourite winter peg, which usually responds to a bit of extra water. I did expect to catch from the off, but it simply didn't happen. After about an hour of patient feeding, the dace turned up in droves. For two hours it was pretty much a bite a chuck. Then someone flipped the switch at around nine. Had more dace than I could be bothered to count with five half decent chublets thrown in. Not a sign of anything bigger and, surprisingly, no grayling. One small trout did show, but it did the bonkers trout thing and threw the hook.

Ditto that Sam.

I've been the same all week, I managed a few hours on Monday evening into dusk and got a soaking for the effort courtesy of the rain which swept in and made the evening seem decidedly chilly and short as the light seemed to fade way too early.

I've had a busy week with work, the annual tax return, some seasonal garden jobs and a bit of garage DIY but I can't decide if it's that or just too many options which I can't whittle down to something that really strikes me as wanting to do

A bit of a chill out day tomorrow and looking like a long dawn 'til dusk job on Saturday though :)

Had a few hours on the river yesterday in the afternoon. The water was quite coloured and maybe oxygenated which turns the fish on in the summer sometimes.
Having settled in at a weir pool with maybe 10 feet of water in front of me the first thing that happened was a couple and a dog came along, jumped in the water and proceeded to shout, throw sticks, splash around and generally had a whale of a time. They were swimming in my swim. Then another family appeared and stood around quite close to me asking what I had caught. I'm thinking where I would move to when the sky became overcast. A few spots of rain and they were all gone thank god.
Amazingly this seemed to have no effect on the fish and I was well away with quality roach after roach on my favourite hemp and tares combo. They were taking so confidently most of them had to be disgorged. Probably had about 20lbs of roach.
About 6pm and 4 youngsters appeared with BBQ, sound systems and enough beers to sink a battleship.
Time to go home but pleased with what turned out to be my best sessionfor ages.

Rob, I think that one had been swallowing stones lol.

The reason I said does anyone reccognise it is if you look at the other pic's you'll see the same fish lying next to a harrison rod, the second pic where it's lying next to a Hardy rod was when I first caught it a couple of weeks earlier.

Okay,Friday flyer at TBF today was switched from Canal pool to Extension as there were 22 on it,ive drawn a great peg,peg 19,but it was always going to be hard with some top class anglers there today.
Ive started on the top kit+1,on pellet and had a steady start, then swapped to maggot shallow against the reeds,at 11m,ive caught here in fits and starts, also fed a 6m shallow line with maggots, and dropped on that, and caught quite steady, also caught on maggots down my right hand edge, ive managed 85-14-0 of F1,s ,Barbel,Roach, and Perch, for the section win:D
England International Adam Waklin showed his class, fishing the "Jigga" from peg 7,for 126-8-0..Pete Black(Fosters) 2nd with 125-12-0,and Pete Caton(Drennan) 3rd with 96-8-0...Due to work,im not out until Tues next week:(..Tight lines,Gazza:D:D

Nice day on a local easy club lake. Fished into the breeze and found the carp wallowing at my feet.
Spent another fortune on bait (90p for two loaves of Tesco ).
Laid on close in, 2 foot over depth with flake on SINKLINK braid which matches the sandy bottom. The lakes not mine.
10 wallowers to 11lb on my Shaky Sigma Specialist ad home made dibber float.

Avery short two and a half hour afternoon sesssion Barbelling on the Trent this afternoon gave me five nice fish on the float gear with a session best of 10-10.A fish with a very distinctive bent body shape.
One lost fish that I suspected was maybe foul hooked and I was away back down the A1.

Quick after work trip. Best £3 (on a pint of maggots) I have spent. There has been very little time for fishing this season unfortunately, but this was great fun. Plenty of tiddlers and some nice Roach and a couple of Perch, but watching the float disappear was the best part! Lovely evening with Kingfishers darting around and a couple of fellow anglers to talk to. Simple pleasures and a real tonic.
