Being a loyal soul and having been encouraged to go fishing( wife had a friend coming round) I returned to the lake which had recently been restocked(allegedly) and which I visited last Wednesday! The result was worse! There were 4 guys setting up poles when I arrived and we all felt the same about the pool and optimistically believed we would catch! No one did in over 6 hours so along with everyone else I came home and doubt I will return anytime soon. Not a nibble on either the float or feeder and I tried almost every hook bait imaginable to no avail!

It's a beautiful setting and very quiet with plenty of birdlife but sadly no fish! I did see several gold crests which always make me smile! Perfection in minature !:beguiled::02.47-tranquillity::focus:

At least I am not alone but little comfort! Today was mild and calm but still no fish!

The Himalayas sound good!:)

Was that the Central Park Lake? If so things have certainly changed? As kids we used to fish it all day with no probs. Lots of pike and some good perch.

Aye. The water is currently a weird blue colour due to some 'treatment'.

It's likely to be a weed control treatment. Effectively a UV blocker to inhibit weed growth. How effective it is seems to vary quite a bit from water to water. I've get to fish a water that fished remotely well immediately after such treatment. Once the colour fades to being less obviously blue, the fishing should get back to normal. However, if the treatment does as intended, the fish may not be drawn to the same areas as previously.

The London Reservoirs used to be treated with something they called "blue stoning". Sounds like it could be the same. I seem to recall that they used to fish their heads off for roach when the blue subsided.

Hang on in there Mike. The fishes in certain parts haven't taken kindly to what use to be a fairly normal winter and I wil stick my neck on the block and suggest it could be May til we really get things going again with another cold snap forecast for Easter.:(

That won't stop me trying a new water on Monday with a few lures in the bag, another blank awaits.....or does it?

That's pretty much what the guy said, except there's no weed, just algae or blue-green algae. The root of the problem is all the nitrogen from all the ducks that are attracted by people feeding them. Not sure how a UV blocker is going get the nitrogen down.

I was told there are plenty of nice roach in there but i'm not sure i can enjoy urban fishing, not at all relaxing. Maybe a dawn session one day.

Yes, the beats that one is allowed to!

Have you fished Pancheshwar and Corbett? Wouldn't mind a few pointers if you have.

All the best

I fished there last year during the closed season, probably around Easter and it was a bit a chuck from decent roach in pit 1(I think - 1st one on the right?). I also caught carp - tbh pretty much everyone did but it was a really warm day - lots of cruising fish. As you say - pretty dear really. I also tried Goldsworth Lake - no bailiff - no bites !

Thanks Hugh. I think that the weather has had a lot todo with it. Also thanks for the steer re:Goldsworth Park. I didn’t know of that water at all and so I will give it a go in the near future.

Cheers, Bob

Got out yesterday for the first time since the rivers closed, went on a local stillwater and fished slider and maggot in 14' of water, had to wait till 4pm for my first bite(due to water clarity and lack of ripple),but went on to catch 18 roach from 6-7ozs to 1-7,the jacks were a nuisance, but I managed not to lose any roach to them.

It all seemed so perfect, no wind, not cold, but when i arrived at my peg I was disappointed to find no features opposite like the pegs to my left...

image.jpeg

A knock up with 10 good anglers fishing I needed a few lumps to stand a chance.

image.jpeg

As usual I fished a punch line at the bottom of the near shelf to start.
Fed groundbait on the far shelf near the bottom. Immediately started catching roach on the punch line, these were in the 2/3 oz bracket but as usual they suddenly vanished after half an hour.
Out on the groundbait line it was perch a chuck on single red maggot until they too vanished. From then on after a flurry of boat traffic it seemed there were no fish there at all, 4 hours of scratching, changing baits, altering depth on my rigs, going long to 13m with caster, I tried it all. When I did get the odd bite it was tiny gudgeon.
Needless to say I came nowhere but it was good not to blank for a change.
Weighed in 1lb:9 .

image.jpeg

9lb+ won it with 7lb+ second, both from the pegs on the narrows further up.

Enjoyed it anyway, the banter was fierce as usual, all part of the fun.....

No probs - I used to live pretty much right next to it but haven't fished it for maybe 12-14 years. I got to know it pretty well & it used to be full of tench. It was really quite nice but then the resident carp became a big thing and it became bit of a bivvy forest. I went back maybe 10 years ago but it looked awful, so I haven't been back. I went last year and it seems nicer - there are proper staging now, the banks were tidy and there is a small nature reserve bit in one corner. It is very busy for walkers but the path is right up the bank so you don't get a lot of people stopping to chat.

Only a short session today - I've joined a new club (PSAC) & self & other newbies were meeting up at the club hut at 11:30 to receive our membership cards, maps Etc & were then taken on a tour of some of the waters. I was surprised to be one of a very small minority that had actually brought their gear with a view to fishing afterwards!

Once the tour was finished I grabbed my gear & headed across to 'Misty' - a small, relatively square pit that wasn't too much of a schlep from the car park. We had been 'warned' that the various pits on the Benty Heath site tended to fish better early morning / dusk, neither of which were an option today, but no way was I not going to give it a go!

Firstly... I didn't blank :clap2: :triumphant: :whoo:

Nothing of any real note size-wise, but a number of small roach & perch, a rudd just starting to take on that golden sheen of summer & a roach x ? hybrid. I suspect that the time of day coupled with bright sunshine for the duration didn't help matters, but the setting in picturesque south Wirral was just a pleasure to be in, listening to all manner of bird song with a good half dozen buzzards overhead at one point & hares lolloping around the field - just glorious & a pleasure to be out enjoying our (nearly) green & pleasant land!

This will not take long....

Another 6/7 hours fished from early morn in reasonable conditions and in a normally productive swim, produced one carp of 3lbs (maybe a bit over) and this on, wait for it, a grain of hemp!! This time last year it offered up a dozen good roach on this self same bait...........

Not a sign of roach and zero surface roach activity, which is quite unusual for this water.

Believe me when I say I tried everything, and came home totally exhausted. (Turning 75 hasn't helped!)

Fortunately the Wasps rugby match on TV was very good and with the poor results of the morning fading away, plans were being made for Tuesdays outing.

Glutton for punishment - probably!!

I've had today pencilled in for a while, the forecasters seem to think this was going to be the only day with some warmth without any rain or wind with another cold front on its way just in time for Easter.

Any thoughts of an early start were dismissed when the electric oven went bang on Saturday evening half way through cooking dinner. I was lucky to get a local cooker engineer out this morning and he immediately found the problem, a faulty terminal box at the back of the oven, with no spare onboard he will be returning tomorrow or the day after, salad it is tonight then but that's for another thread.

He was gone by 10am and was on my way ten minutes later. Today was an exploratory outing looking at parts of the River Medway which I intend to fish this Summer with a stop on route at a canal section open for business.

A beautiful day and within 40 minutes I came across this lovely spot, Teston a few miles outside Maidstone, the river is spanned by a 15th Century bridge only recently re-opened after a drunk driver tried to demolish it.
image.jpg

A few yards further on there is a weir pool, maybe somewhere I might catch my first Barbel?

A few miles further on I could park right next to the canal section, about 300 metres of easily accessible fishing with a nice pub nearby, another spot for the Summer.
image.jpg

Chucked in various lures along the length without any sign of a take, even my trusted chartreuse worm couldn't attract any attention.
image.jpg

Just beyond the canal section where the main river merges is the quirkily named Teapot Island, complete with cafe for a welcome coffee break before further exploring and anothe majestic bridge, this one in Yalding.
image.jpg

Did catch something though, caught my first glimpse of what I'm guessing is a Mink, a sporty one at that, swam the width of the river, climbed the bank, crossed a road in front of me before sprinting off into a field
image.jpeg

Yet another blank but it was only a short session, the priority was finding some new river to fish, that has been a success, all day ticket along the stretches I roamed....roll on the 16th, I'll be back.:)

Final pike session on the lake before it closes till September. Just another blank to add to rest of what as been my worst pike season in years on this lake. I haven't caught one from here since November.

As it was such a nice day , mild and sunny, I decided to try and reverse my blanks of recent days and set of fora few hours fishing this afternoon. I decided to use the tip rod with groundbait on a banjo feeder and corn on the hair. I managed six bream, what else!

I sound like the Nespresso advert! A nice afternoon in the sun and all is well until next time!:) One can have too many blanks!:(
