Last day on the river today so I went down the Colne in town.
Got there about 2pm, started on this long trot swim with flake on a chubber float.
No bites after an hour and a half so I spent some time talking to a mate who was fishing close by.
In recent weeks he’s had a string of 6lb+ chub on ledgered boilies from the river. Biggest 6:9..
Enthused, I walked downstream and on the way another angler had just landed a big chub caught on ledgered bread punch. I watched as he weighed it at 6:11. A proper lump!
I settled on another long trot swim and mashed some bread in a tub, one lump down the middle and another further across. Let that settle for a while before my first trot through.
First trot down the middle and the float dithered before shooting under, my lift was met with solid resistance and a bit of a fight ensued.
I imagined it was a medium sized chub as it tested my clutch in the flow, then it surfaced and it’s bronze flanks gave the game away..
One more move downstream but no more bites so I called it a day. The big chub I’d hoped for didn’t materialise but it was fun and I didn’t blank...
