Popped out again for a couple of hours to the Addle - the southern arm of the River Bourne a tiny Thames tributary on the outskirts of London. To say this river was small was an understatement as I spent so much time with my rod tip in trees and how I managed no tangles was down to luck more than any skill I could muster.

Reading your posts over the last week or two has been like reading a roll call of my old haunts; the upper Ouse in Buckingham, the upper Wey and now the Bourne...

Where next, the river Blackwater, Oxford canal or maybe the Warks Stour??

It's good to know they're still producing some nice fish. Does the Bourne still have a few good sized carp?

Not sure to be honest it was the first time I have fished the Addle arm as i'm trying to fish lots of different rivers so regarding the Warks Stour and Blackwater - they are two rivers I have yet to fish so any information would be welcome, pm me if you like as i don't want to go to off thread although I may become your stalker if I fish there too;)

Up at 6 and off down the M4 to the other side of Reading. The Kennet and Avon canal. A short walk to my peg and a nice overhanging tree across.
Started on the whip with punch whilst pinging maggots across to the tree.
Nothing on the punch so it was worm on the waggler across to the tree.
Not a touch again. Then about 100 canoes came through and it was an hour before the stragglers came down. Now about 12:30 and one big perch had been caught further up. In the last hour I potted in a big cup of chopped worm on my waggler line close to the tree. Fancied a cuppa and poured one out, looked round and my float was gone. I picked up the rod and lifted in but alas no fish and no worm:eek:mg:

Winner had 2 perch for 4:7:8. ( Biggest 2:15)
2nd had 1perch for 2:10.

All 5 others blanked.

Three hours yesterday on a Welsh pool, six small Perch and a slightly bigger Roach all on maggot. Decided on a different venue today, thirty plus Roach to a pound, half a dozen Rudd to about 10 oz. Tackled down from 12 to 5lb hooklength to 18 to 2.5lb, float slid away, struck into a decent fish which had to be a Carp, broke me on the hooklength. I should have stayed with the heavier end tackle but the Carp run to 30lb so it may have been irrelevant:(

Curiously couldn't get a bite on bread or worm on either session:confused:

Back to my comically small stream this morning for a couple of hours after the pike. Was rather brown, but that seems to turn the pike on, so cracked on regardless.
I lost one almost straight away then had one of 15- the one in the net, then had a smaller one of 12 or so- comedy selfie pic.

Fished club match on Slough Arm at Langley Boats, thought the attendance would be higher than normal with a couple of guests getting some practice in for the Charity Team of 4 in a couple of weeks, but this was more than offset by a few regulars missing so it was down to fifteen of us.
Pegged this time from the Langley Station end to just past the kissing gate (we more often peg from Mansion Lane back to the gate) and wasnt sure what to think when I drew peg 2 about 80 yards down from the bridge. Been drawn there a few times before and the first five or so swims can be very erratic.
Joker was still alive from last week so put in a big pot across to the boat slightly to my left, fed a punch line down the track and another a bit further over and cupped in some groundbait halfway up the shelf off to my right with squatt and a few big maggots in. Started on the punch, a bit of a wait for bites but worth it when they came and had four decent hybrids for about 2-6 in the first 45 minutes. And five and a bit hours later weighed 2-13....Couldnt get another bite anywhere in the swim apart from a handful of microperch on bits of worm next to the keepnet. I can now add myself to the list of people who cant get the joker and bloodworm to work here this year- won't waste my money next time !
Was generally very patchy although there were some lovely roach caught. Joint first had 8-14, third 8-8 and fourth 6-10, although 2-14 was next.
Peter Kay. one of the equal top weights, only had 15 or 16 fish on caster for his 8-14 but the average size of his fish was eclipsed by Don Wilkinson on the next peg who had 10 or 11 for his 8-8. His biggest roach went 1-15, he had at least two others over the pound and lost an even bigger one at the net. A bit of an unlikely specimen roach venue to say the least- no idea why they've suddenly appeared.
And Barry on peg 1 had a Silver Bream of about 6oz. There's still plenty in parts of the Thames but thats the first I've seen anywhere in the Colne Valley in years. Broadwater Pit used to be absolutely stuffed with them until the early 90s but long gone.

Got out today, weather absolutely lovely.

I Fished for pike, my mate, Ant brought, the carp gear down to try out the new bait boat.

I fished the middle, he fished either end of the small island. I didn’t get a touch.

The boat worked perfectly to get one bait out, Ant made the mistake of saying that one bait out, £300 a cast! And it stayed that way. On trying to get the other bait out, the boat went into its’ own mind mode and span around, went backwards, crashed into the bank, anywhere but where it was supposed to go. I had to sit down I was laughing so much. Then, Kaput, nothing. Eventually, Ant swung out the bait and packed up the boat. An hour or so later, off it trundled, the result an absolutely ‘minted’ 15-08. Mahogany with gold scales. Wouldn't have caught it had the dreaded boat worked.

Not a fan of bait boats personally but one of the funniest things I have seen recently.

Three more chub from the River Wreake, biggest 3lb, all on legered crust, no bites on worms or prawns, was really hoping for a perch or two, they seem to be switched on or not, I keep choosing their days off to visit.

I’m playing catch up here but it’s been nice few days after a concerted effort to have a “tip free” week on both river and stillwater, instead concentrating on the stick and waggler with a couple of surprises along the way.

Suffice to say that the milder weekend temperatures were a welcome change from the damp and constant nittering winds of last week with too much to talk about in any detail and a great contrast both in terms of the fishing and the fish caught, the mucky hands are a delightful range from bronze maggot to chopped worm and groundbait…

I never expected to see one of these just yet but a welcome addition nevertheless from a day ticket water literally on my doorstep...

I cannot say why it is as perch of this size aren’t particularly difficult to catch but they just seem such perfect examples to me, if the four pounder looks half as good when I catch it I’ll be more than happy…

Really enjoying my fishing to the full at the moment which is a bit of a bonus for February.

I managed 3 hours fishing on the river last night. Tactics were a medium feeder to the middle of the river, nothing complicated, night light on the tip, and sit and wait. It didn't take long to get the usual indications as a chub tries to knock the food out the feeder, and then the rod just swing round, first fish landed. This happened four more times in the next couple of hours, and they fought brilliantly, seem to be in fighting fit condition.

Fish of 4lb 1oz, 4lb 5oz, 4lb 8oz, 4lb 10oz and 5lb 2oz (to equal my pb)

Got to be happy with that!

The bottom fish is the big one.

Lovely day out today on the Gade with Simon.

We started off downstream of a bridge, and caught a good few small roach and a couple of minnows on bread punch over liquidised bread (Which Simon deposited off the bridge at regular intervals).
The fish weren't interested in the maggots at all.

Later on we moved downstream to a narrow concrete foot bridge and were both struggling to see the float in the blinding sunshine.

I caught a couple of roach and Simon hooked a big one which unfortunately came off at the last minute.:(

No specimens, but a very pleasant day in lovely scenery:)
