Alan, the ressies' decline has been discussed ad infinitum and no conclusion has been reached.
I think it's cyclical and will rectify itself within time.
Restocking is not an option as it's an SSSI...

I'm going to try and not reply twice:rolleyes:,I've fished that ressie isfor a lot of years,on and off, mainly off lol,and it always was possible to catch a few bream, especially in the conditions you fished in,it's amazing how things can change relatively quickly...

Definitely last trip to the carp and F1 only lake as its close and the weather forecast is for an early downpour again. I had a double and an F1 on float/flake then I must have missed a dozen lightening bites.

I tried one of those lasso hook lengths that I bought on impulse. I have never used them before. 8mm pellet and hey presto. Hit everyone.:)
Old dogs/new tricks comes to mind.

A few hours roaming on the canal again this morning with the light lure gear.Dazzling sunshine after all the rain of Sunday, most of which seemed to have been left on the towpath. Not much flipping over, felt a couple of perch grab and let go of the 2" rubber minnow and eventually caught 2 very small perch, still no blank.
As the sun warmed everything up,the last of the summers dragonflies and butterflies took to the wing, red admirals, commas, small tortoiseshell, big bumble bees and loads of smaller ones including those pesky wasps.First possible frost of the autumn forecast for Wednesday morning which will thin them out.

Wlkaed around startops the other weekend - saw a ton of pike and a massive shoal of small Perch nut nowt else.

Mate assures theres some 40 and 50lb carp in there ,but Ive not seen them.

The weather was nice, but the rivers were far too full for me to bother. Rather than pass up on a nice day, I decided to visit the winter roach pool well ahead of schedule. The snag was always going to be that the carp were likely to be more active than I'd like. Fishing a stupidly light rod to avoid bumping the roach meant that I'd need to use really fine wire hooks just to ensure they'd open out before my 1.7lb bottoms even had chance to break.

I had quite a few roach, with perhaps twenty or so around the pound mark. I weighed one of the early bigger ones, just to get my eye in, at 1lb 3oz. The rod and line being used doesn't lend itself to swinging in anything more than 4oz, but I needed the net for all but a couple of the roach. Sadly, I didn't manage any roach obviously significantly bigger than the 1lb 3oz mark.

I wasn't overly surprised to have ended up having extended battles with a few carp. I only managed to lose a couple, landing six. I also had a bonus tench. The roach were a bit patchy at times, probably due to those pesky carp. The whole shooting match died a death with the arrival of the rain at about 1800. It felt like an age in the rain, but I beat a hasty retreat after quarter of an hour of getting soaked.

Fished the Bridgewater yesterday. Same spot as before about 2 miles east of Lymm. Arrived around 7 and went clothed for a coolish day but was stripping layers off by 8. Changed tactics by fishing the far shelf first leaving the bit of gb at the bottom of the drop off to my left til later in the hope fish would settle on it. Bits of loose feed and gb to the far shelf and was struggling for bites from the off. The far shelf is in the shade all day which might not help. Otherwise it's a potentially good spot with a small bay and cover to left and right. Just spent the morning picking the odd one up here and there, mostly small Perch with one Roach around 5oz. The tow picked up around midday so had to switch from the antenna to a straight waggler, not my favourite float. The tow got too much to fish the far shelf so switched to the drop off but didn't do much better there. Mostly small Perch to maybe just short of 4oz with the odd Roach, nothing else in evidence but did manage a couple of small skimmers shortly before I packed up at 3pm, had things to do at home. 28 in all, winters setting in so not really surprising.

Startops and Wilstone have always been specimen lakes and hard to crack,Marsworth however has always been a lot easier, with bream between 2/8lbs,a good head of roach of a decent stamp and moderate amounts of tench of modest sizes 2/5lbs,these seemed to disappear a four or five years ago,it is hard to know why this ressie has gone down so dramatically, aside from Simon's cyclical comment, which is probably right,it is sad, because it was one of the few places around here to catch a bag of bream with some certainty.

After my foray fishing for Skimmers, I fancied a day fishing for Roach.
That all ended with a no go, my wife's arthritis flared up and fishing was put on the back burner for a time.
The casters I bought have been nursed to keep them as fresh as possible until I can get back to the bank. I've had them since the 27th, up to now they look OK. My wife is limping a lot less.
I may get next week, finger crossed the arthritis as settled.
More for my wifes well being than my fishing.

Edit.
The fishing for roach is to see how many and the sizes are left after British Waterways took most of them out for breeding purposes.

Had a walk up the pier today, spoke to a bloke who had had a largish Dover Sole and next to him a Dogfish had been caught, he said a few other fish had been caught and as I walked on a bloke pulled in a large Pouting, not seen one of them for a long time. The sea was quite calm but not clear, that sort of brown/blue colour.

Not wanting to waste the brilliant sunshine this morning,I put the pike spinning gear in the car and headed off to the local reservoir.A cool NW breeze greeted me,surprised to see swallows and martins still flying over the water, plenty of dragonflies still, red admirals, commas and a hornet came quite close to see what I was. After all the rain of yesterday the level had risen and the water had coloured up but still needs just over a foot to fill right up.Alternated between spinners and various rubber jigs and eventually had what I call a Subway Pike - a foot long on a size 4 silver Mepps.Spent a few minutes watching five buzzards calling to each other and spiralling upwards. Was hoping to get on the small rivers but there is another monsoon forecast for tomorrow evening.

What a beautiful day. Tigger, a mate of his and yours truly met not at the river which was regarded as too high but at my current favourite still water which is rapidly gaining popularity with the master.

I caught lots of small fish all day including some clonking gudgeon . THis was an enormous example.

Only 2 bream merited the net but I enjoyed every minute in glorious sunshine. I had several crucians and roach and perch. Tigger caught consistently including the largest crucian I've seen.as I packed up around 6.00 pm the resident carp showed interest in surface bread and Ian caught a cracker of a mirror as I left. It was just over 11lb but looked bigger.

I learned some bailiff duties today and reinforced my fishing with simple rigs. A thorough enjoyable day and one unlikely to be repeated as autumn descends and the nights draw in. Cheers Ian!

Had another walk up the pier today, one lady said she had a nice Plaice and a Pouting, at least she turned out to be a lady, I thought it was a bloke at first, bit embarrassing really. Nice to see the Pouting around, I think they have got scarce over the last few years; locally at least, perhaps they are making a comeback. The sea temperature on the website is given as 17c, that's still warm and the sea was a bit browner than yesterday but only a slight chop. Good flattie type conditions.

Slow start yesterday, after frost first thing, nothing happened till about eleven o clock, when I caught my first carp of the day, managed to catch four altogether, best twelve pounds three oz, it felt cold all day, packed up at two thirty, it was that cold, even though we were dressed for it. Had enough.

With the worlds second largest Lithuanian owned trawler spending nearly a week sucking up to 6000 tonnes of fish from the English Channel I’m surprised we have any stocks left to fish for.

It’s been banned from various countries including Australia but we here in the UK say it’s perfectly legal, makes my blood boil.

And we moan about the EU! I doubt the french would tolerate it. We need a few Iranian frogmen and a bag of limpet mines.

If you haven’t Mike, read the story about this trawler and it’s unethical methods, it’s horrifying, absolutely no discrimination as to what gets caught including dolphins, blue fin tuna and bass which get sucked straight into a processing plant on the ship and then the produce is shipped mainly to...........Africa.

I have read about it John and it's a disgrace. It reckons it catches pelagic fish from midwater and doesn't disturb the sea bed. It's hardly surprising fish stocks are low.

A silvers day on the res. I had to move when the rain stopped as I couldnt buy a bite. Second spot much better with a steady stream of roach and small perch.
At 3pm just as the sky darkened again I hit a fast bite on the single dead 'un.
This common at 12lb 10ozs on 2.6 Perlon bottom and a 16 B520 maggot hook.

That certainly put the Ultra through another test.
