A few hours on the upper Soar south of Leicester this morning, lvels had dropped since the last deluge and it had decent colour but having walked through the first field I was faced with cows with calves in the next one and they did not seem willing to give ground so a change of plan,I stayed in that first field downstream of the farm.Second cast saw a brown trout of about 10oz landed,it took legered crust then nothing.Moved upstream and had a chub of 1lb 14oz on legered worms - a kingfisher flew past downstream, watched a kestrel outpace a chasing jackdaw then two kingfishers went past one nearly landing on the rod.Moved upstream again and trotting flake saw a chub of 2lb 5oz in the net, then it seemed to switch off altogether as the sun had broken through.

Apologise for the fotos first but this fone is giving me a problem.
I was anxious that the Don would be in good form when NottsKev arrived for our planned outing yesterday.Any fears were unfounded as on arrival all seemed to be ok, good or not would soon be found out as fish usually come easy after a very short time.
We settled some four hundred yards upstream , the plan being to leapfrog swims back downstream until we arrived back by the bridge where my car was parked.
Kevin settled in a swim that I'd fished before, one that was usually good, and so it proved to be with kevin enjoying some pretty hectic sport with the hoped for Greyling.
I moved a couple of swims upstream and was into fish immediately .
I was relieved about such a good start as I've given lavish praise in the past about this miraculously recovered river after all the industrial ravages it has suffered in the past and I seriously wanted kevin to enjoy his day out having travelled all the way from Nottingham north up the M1.
After a while the sport dropped away so we three (my friend Bill was with us) made our way back downstream fishing maybe another two swims each before calling it a day in order to beat the rush hour traffic .
We three of us all caught plenty of fish in every swim we tried.
Back in the car going home Kevin was buzzing about our day together and I knew he would be returning before very long.
Thanks for our day kevin- enjoyed every minute!

An afternoon dabble on the local for eight grayling and three spotted idiots. This extended period of high water appears to have put paid to the minnows (for now) though, not a hint of one.

Spotted idiots....I love it !

Today was an absolute need to fish day. I'm still not over whatever it is I caught about 6 weeks ago but I've been going stir crazy what with feeling rough and this bloody rain. Today was forecast dry so I decided on a bit of gentle carping as I'm about 3 weeks behind on my autumn carp campaign. Its half term down here so club lake with a no unaccompanied kid rule was the chosen venue. Shame there isn't a "no noisy old boys" rule too because there were plenty of those about.

In fact the place was mobbed out, flat calm and as bright as you like when I arrived. The spot I fancied was free but it was full of duck and mums with toddlers feeding them. One to drop on later perhaps.

Found a free spot eventually and far enough from the greybeards for them not to bother me but it was VERY bright and VERY flat. I didnt expect anything at all until the sun got off the water and I was bang on in that regard.

I had 7 fish from 7 runs between 5 and 7-15 pm. Smallest around 12lb...biggest bang on 17lb with a couple of 16 pounders as backup. All commons bar 1 of the 16 pounders which was a very handsome linear mirror.

Normally its 20mm boilies that do the business here but I could get no interest on 20mm at all. Every fish came to a 15mm bait. An unremarkable session but an itch well and truly scratched. I'd normally expect 3-4 fish from a short session this time of year so, though the average size was down a bit, I'm not complaining. Another 2-3 weeks and the big girls will be on the munch prior to winter. The 20mm will work then.

M25 as good as gold both ways too. Something is clearly afoot.

A cool and bright start to the day yesterday, with a strong breeze from the south east, we decided to fish different pegs today as the carp seemed to have moved out of the shallow end of the lake into deeper water.
So we set up about the middle of the lake, which fished well last week, but it seemed that the fish had followed the wind, and were on the other side, chap opposite me was catching well, and there was more action over there.
Our side was very quiet, I had one bite and one bream all day, mick had two bream, and that was it, seemed like our side was empty, no line bites or anything, even the roach and hybrids weren’t biting when I tried a maggot feeder.
At two o clock mick said he’s had enough, so we packed up and left.

I put my back out the week prior to the Boddington trip and the drive back well and truly finished it off but managed to get out yesterday for the first time since the trip. Originally planned to fish the Dam but ended up being late after going ten rounds with my broadband supplier. 9:30 before I got going so decided on an easy day at Dunham Fisheries which I had to pay for because I'd left my Bay Malton card in the session kit:eek:mg: It's getting colder so wasn't expecting much. Came away with a rather pretty small Mirror around 2.5lb, a couple of Ide, 20, the rest being a mix of lively skimmers, Roach and Rudd. Packed up at 3. Good to be back out:)

Just my constitutional walk along the front and up the pier and really enjoyed the October sunshine after all that rain, enjoy the little things is my motto. The sea was very calm and clearing out and if that was going to last just maybe, some lure or float fishing for Bass or maybe some late mackerel. However, the winds due to get up over the weekend so we might get a stir up which won’t be a bad thing for any Codling or flatties about.
I did talk to a couple of anglers on the pier, both foreign so all I got was “flattie” but they did not understand me when I said Sole or Plaice and they did not offer to show me so, I did not ask. Generally it seemed very little was coming up in the calm sea, not even the small Whiting
The sea is been given as 16c but I think it might be a little colder than that but it is probably still warm for the time of year so maybe some Soles about still. I can’t fish at the moment but might try a beach bass spot when the tides come round to my way thinking again, i.e. when I get out of bed and regain consciousness, i.e. nothing before 12 noon:) Just a pic for those stuck on the M25:)

Like Mark I went fishing without any gear today. I’ve purchased an additional ticket on my CDAA membership that allows me to coarse fish the fly section of the River Stour that runs between Sturry and the very picturesque Fordwich (allegedly the smallest town in the UK), so took a walk along its length today and was hoping to get some idea of the terrain but after a lot of rain the water is full of colour. Hopefully I’ll be reporting back here from November 1st onwards with a catch or two, a trout would be nice, never caught one before, I wonder what keeps them in this section of river.

Well the fishing gods were looking down on me. I decided to fish a bit of a hot spot I've found for perch, got snagged up on a child's bicycle and lost my lure and jighead. Whilst I was sat down rigging up, what pops up but a massive lobworm.

Never one to look such an opportunity in the eye, I rigged up a small ledgering set up and plopped it in the canal. Whilst waiting for a bite (had one, took half the work and not the hook) a kindly gentleman walked up and told me about a bridge over the River Douglas that's got a slack water section which you can basically drop shot a lob worm into.

Well I had 3 Perch in the first five minutes, before I finally lost my worm. Not wanting to miss the shoal, I threw a medium artifical worm on tipped with a fake maggot and proceeded to pick up another 4 in 20 minutes on a slow lift and drop before the cold got the better of me. What a session! Not that I can claim much credit for it mind. All a good stamp as well.

Over to the Wreake this morning at first light,0C the car told me and it felt it with thick mist covering the field but at least the cattle here were not interested in me at all.The level was still up with water pouring out of a land drain near the bridge.Quivertipped flake and crust to start with and almost immediately had knocks, bangs, quivertip jolting straight but the bait still on the hook.Switched to worms and had a small perch first cast, then something a bit bigger fell off and it went quiet.Must have been cold ,only one couple walking the dogs on the far bank. The sun started to break through then disappeared in thicker mist and low cloud and with the coffee almost gone, time to go and warm up on the drive home.

Just thought this is worth mentioning as shows take no notice of me. One angler on the pier yesterday and the day before he caught Mackerel and 4 Bass. He said the mackerel were leaping to escape the bass which must have been underneath them and he put a lure on and caught the bass within 15mins. It was late afternoon so he was fishing the top of the tide. I surmised that mackerel might be about still if the water cleared out but they were there anyway with the attendant bass; he said they were schoolie size but I bet there were bigger ones there as well. Just shows you can never be sure of anything and it’s all about timing and being there. The actual sea temperature is 14c as measured by the council but that’s still warm. The sea is still fairly calm this morning but due to churn a bit over the weekend but I bet the bass will still hang about.

Just shows we never really know unless we dip a line in. Nice bit of river by the way, hope you find a trout or two. Or maybe a sea trout, you never know, I am sure they go up that river. I wonder why there is none in Canterbury; always looked like it should hold trout to me. Proper trout water above it.

Damp start this morning, I was tempted to fish a river but the rains last night put me off. Tried a different lake at the Frisby complex looking for mainly roach or anything that might like a maggot.
Turned out not much liked maggots today. One solitary bream about 6oz was all I had to show by 12 then it started to rain heavy so that was me done for the day. Don’t mind fishing in the rain but as I wasn’t catching I figured I’d go home an annoy the wife

I went down to a local beach last Sunday, only had an hour and a bit spare, and guess what?
Brit packed tight into the shore getting hammered by allsorts, mostly small mackerel, gars and small Bass. The birds were going nuts as well.
They were actuallly proving difficult to tempt, there was that much bait that most casts the small metal jig i was using to "match the the hatch" was coming back with Brit impaled on the treble.
In the short time i had, i managed a small gar, several joeys, a couple of schoolies and dropped a decent Bass right at my feet.
Wish i had had longer, isn't it always the way?
Mate went down the next day and all the action had gone.

Once I realised that today wasn't going to be anything like the forecast suggested, I grabbed some kit to snatch a few hours on the river. I probably left it too late, because once the sun poked through, and the wind picked up, it died a death (sodding minnows apart). Luckily, I'd had five grayling and three trout by then. I did manage to bore two more grayling out amongst the horde of minnows, but once I had a minnow every cast for ten runs through, I called it quits and came home.
