You're well equipped now! I can't stop thinking of crossing the oxford city centre in this! But for the countryside around that must be just great indeed.

Only if you take your girlfriend/partner with you!!

Each time I have a dispute with my personal Spanish Prime Minister, I hide my Outdoor Yukon Cap and then put it on once we're on the Plaza Mayor at the time terrace bars are getting full.

11 codgers fished yesterday at Northchurch on a bright but freezing cold morning. The gusty wind made it feel even colder..
Most of us settled on a section which was sheltered by some industrial units behind the towpath..

This pound is noted for it’s big perch, so I started off by introducing 2 droppers of chopped worm and casters just off the near shelf.
Tried punch and double squat down the middle for an hour which proved fruitless. Dropping half a Dendra over my baited area produced an instant bite, a perch of 4oz. Alas this proved to be the only bite for the duration of the match, not for lack of trying all the tricks..
Last Sunday was just as bad on Lakeside fishery where I opted to fish pole tight to the island hoping for a carp or 2. Again nothing to show but a few tiny perch and a proper soaking in the afternoon..

Oh well that’s January out of the way anyway.
No fishing for me until next week as I’m off to France for 5 days, gutted I’ll be missing a fixture on the Thames on Sunday on what promises to be a very mild day...

Just back from a morning on the Gade, I hadn't visited the old girl this year and I was dreading having to do another wombling job cleaning up litter like last time, thankfully it was clean which was nice to see. It was running through nicely too but it felt too cold at times in the wind, I wasn't sure how long I would fish having had the flu for the last week or so, luckily there wasn't a cloud in sight, not ideal fishing weather so I just hoped to winkle out a few fish in the sun.

As it turned out I managed to fish for two hours before getting knackered and I only roved three swims, getting old!, The flow was perfect for trotting and the fishing was better then I expected, sure the big shoals of chub, bream and perch of yesteryear are long gone but the dace made up for it a bit. Managed 45 of them of differing sizes including some of the old Clonkers, which are hybrids of Tonkers and Stonkers :D They are never worth weighing though as Gade fish always seem to be long and lean compared to other rivers. 22 roach showed too and a trio of chublets to show there is the odd larger fish left to breed in isolated places. It's still impossible to blank there after nearly 40 years of trying, long may it continue

Got back to the car a bit windswept to find it like an oven inside so there was some power in that sun after all

It was my last day off work and I was determined to get some fishing in. Following two blanks, one of which using the dreaded drop shot rod, I really wanted some fish bending the rod.
It was a case of heading to the pond in the woods where I knew I could catch.
Nice simple tactics as usual, small waggler, four and a half pound line, straight through to a 12 barbless hook. Bait from the kitchen cupboard, sliced white bread and a tin of sweetcorn. Ground up a packet of biscuits nobody was eating and threw in the last of a bag of crushed hemp for ground bait.

Soon had a lot of small but pristine roach on the feed. About seven or eight fell to bread flake.

A couple of finicky biting Crucians were next up, amongst lots of missed bites. A change to a single grain of sweetcorn improved the missed bite situation. Shortly afterwards I landed the world's smallest common carp.

Only decent sized fish was a chunky mirror carp that put up one hell of a scrap on relatively light tackle.

A nice few hours out in nature before the school run; just what the doctor ordered.

A day on the Basingstoke Canal. No bites at all in first swim, tried bread flake and dead maggots. Walked back to the car and tried another section a couple of miles away. The BC is flowing at the moment like a slow river due to all the rain.
In new swim laid-on flake and caught about 20 roach to 1lb and a solitary bream of about 3lbs.
No rain today!

Had a full day fishing yesterday at Bleakhills Fishery, which handily is 2 mins away.
Had a friend take me to show me a few things and overall the day was very successful.
Caught a 13lb 4oz mirror carp as well as several small stockies, including a fully scaled mirror.
Seemed quite a few peoe were getting a lots of success yesterday as well.

Had a walk about on the club lake with sink and draw yesterday. Only one small jack and one bigger which came adrift.
I tripped over my big feet and took a tumble. I was quick enough to drop the rod to my right onto the grass as I went down. No damage to the tackle but a very sore arm and all shook up.

Still not as bad as Steve2 who says he ended in Casualty with a fall.

I knew he had slipped but hadn't realised it was that bad. Steve i hope you're feeling better and that there was nothing broken.

Cut head, black eyes, concussion and a knee damage. Ended up in A&E having X-ray and CT scans. How ended up on the floor I don't know. Not a fishing related.

I wouldn't comment further if PC was around but he's busy. I hope you get checked out thoroughly and are on the mend.

Bored all week so decided to go today. Nowhere I truly fancied but in the end I decided on Bury Hill as I’ve loads of deadbait and I’ve only been out after the Zander once this winter. I was greeted by Dave in the cabin telling me it’s not fishing at all. Busy too.

So... I am sat here staring at motionless indicators in an area I rarely do any good from and I am only marginally less bored. I’ve seen two fish caught....one bream and what looked like a small pike. I will do well to get a fish I think

I had several hours roving today and with the temp's having risen to 11 degrees I was expecting some decent action. The problem was the action didn't materialise, although you could say clambering up steep bankings intermittently whilst walking just shy of 3 miles was a form of action.
It was fishing action I wanted and I only managed to catch two small chub. One chub appeared to have had a lucky escape from something, going off the tooth marks possibly an otters.
My sinking line seemed to stay on the surface ok and when the sun shone through the clear patches in the sky I could actually see my line on the surface for maybe 50yds!

Here's some pics of the scarred up chub...
