Another self isolation day. Up on the Wolds at a small heavy stocked club pond. Icy wind off the North Sea saw me tucked in behind the brolly. The sun shone. Saw no one spoke to no one.

I appreciate its not every ones cup of tea but plenty of bites from carp to 7 ish and roach made a nice day for a change.
15 carp all told. Funny how most fight like tigers but a few were like wet blankets. Maybe bream ancestry :wh

Long rod/centre pin/pole float/worm bread meat.

I wasn't going to post but that was largely because of my despondency at catching just 2 roach yesterday on the feeder. My level of despondency increased in the inverse proportion that shelves of bog rolls emptied , when I listened to the latest measures in the struggle against Covid19.

However that selfish attitude would not have given credit to Metronome, sorry Gordon, who after 4 hours really found the roach and his clicker died through overuse.

A lovely lake but shallow and difficult, well that's my excuse. I last fished it about 3 years ago when I was originally a member of the local which owns it. I foolishly perhaps rejoined a few weeks ago. It was sunny and bright and I was just happy to be out. It does feel strange though to me, not to greet Gordon with the usual handshake and share conversations other than at 25 yards apart . We are truly in difficult and unheard of times an de I hope we all pull through. The fish are peripheral in the overall scheme of things but a few more would have been nice.:)

Hiccups Mike! Nice pic. A strange day to say the least. 4 Hours before either of us got a bite and 6hrs before Mike got one. Being as shallow as it is it's a finicky water weather wise, particularly if you're after bigger fish. It's either too hot or too cold. Good to be out all the same even when that NE wind made its presence felt.

Don’t stop posting through despondency Mike, two roach is two more roach than I have caught in weeks.

It’s six roach btw taking into account your itchy finger.:)

Now that my old folk are in isolation I will have more time to get on the bank soon, I’ve got everything crossed and hope the estate lake opens on April 1st and remains open for members to fish.

First trip out of the new season after Trout today, fished a club stretch that drops and clears a lot more quickly than others.
Looked nice, bright and sunny but a chilly breeze.

Fished one of my favorite early season flies, white bead head, with a black thorax and grey body.
First run I tried produced a fish almost immediately....

...then 2 more in quick succession, but sadly that was it for the rest of the session.

Around Midday, a few March Browns started coming off...

...but the only thing showing any interest in them were the Wagtails.

Glad I managed to get on the bank today, be the last time for a while now I think....

First visit to Park Farm for me his year. Set up on the moat using method feeder and boilie... balled some GB in as soon as I got there. Fishing the opposite margins....

Very quiet,,,couple of knocks and nothing doing.

Changed to a smaller boilie and still no action...

Mid way throought he day I swapped to a small pellet feeder using a mix of Krill and sticky Manilla 2mm pellets with a single fake sweetcorn as a wafter......

Also chucking krill freebies.....

Couple of liners, and then the rod tip slammed round....

Picked the rod and new straight away ot was a good fish......

Took a good 10/15 minutes to net, it wasnt having any of it.....

Lovely colour and scales, and going 12lb.....

Reset, and about 15 minutes later, the tip goes round again....

This was a smaller fish, but I think it Dolphin bloodlines, never seen a carp splash around so much lol.....

Didnt weigh it, but about 7ish I guess, lovely round body on this one.....

And that was it really,,,had a couple of good knocks but they turn into takes....

Gave me time to watch a Kestrel very closely catching his dinner....

I was glad to get out on Sunday on a comparatively busy old clay pit - nine of us fishing but plenty of room. The swim I'd fished the previous two days was in use so I trekked to the other side and instead of the pole fished a waggler in 11 ft of water with double red maggot on a 22. First fish was a lively 2-8 tench, followed by about a dozen roach and skimmers though I kept bumping fish, and finished off with a nice perch of 1-4. I had been looking forward to fishing today but that's off....

The first day off from shopping for food and medicines for our gang of isolated and it was nice not to see a supermarket.

Found quiet a spot that wasn’t overlooked, thought to myself sod it, I’m going fishing otherwise I’ll go bonkers, face the consequences later.

An opportunity to try a new but quite old but in lovely condition rod (thanks Chris), a Drennan Crystalight

Bait of choice, five week old maggots.

A shallow swim, a Drennan visiwag perfect for the job

Light line Stroft 3lb

Took quite a while to get a bite, possibly ten seconds, put a nice bend on this super light rod

Not 100% on the species, think it’s a hybrid.

Today’s catch even managed to bring a rare smile, well, sort of.

Nice spot, I shall return

Gratuitous Binka shot

:)

Kind'a venue where you need pin point accurate casting :).

Actually, I have practiced my waly cast like that, managed to get my small bomb into a medium gorilla bucket at 25yds on most casts....if aanything had bit I would have missed the bite as I had no hook on :eek:mg:.

Finished the session with a roach, sadly the cormorants have been having a go.
