How did you get on?

Very much a different kind of morning to the one which I had originally planned thanks to a day in the garden yesterday which left me feeling like I’d been hit with something large and heavy when I woke around six o’clock this morning.

I decided a leisurely stroll would be of more benefit to me especially as it was such a blissful morning and so I grabbed the dog along with the 6’ ultralight spinning rod, mat, net and a few terminal bits before digging a handful of worms from the garden and setting off to a local lake with a particular spot in mind where the water runs through a small pond and into the shallow end of a larger lake beyond and where it has in turn eroded a small, deeper hole at the inlet…

I baited a drop shot rig with a decent size worm and lowered it down into the froth of water below…

I gave it around five minutes gently fluttering the worm with no sign of life but then thought I felt a slight tap, still nothing more for a further two or three minutes and when I was beginning to think that it was all just a bit too “Crabtree” I had another tap followed by a good bang which I managed to hit and which resulted in a modest but pristine perch…

That was it, job done and back home before nine o’clock where I spent a couple more hours in the garden to get things finished off and the remainder of the day odd jobbing around the house.

Next out Wednesday on what looks to be a much more settled and improving week weather wise but for now I need Radox and San Miguel... And not necessarily in that order :)

Had an afternoon session at my club's #1 pond on Saturday; not an easy day with a few small rudd on the waggler to maggot. Scaled up to a 14 on corn which eventually led to a couple of common to about 6.5lb but hard going on what is generally the hardest of our 3 waters.

Put into perspective yesterday when I drove out to Scots Lane on a Wigan & DAA day ticket. I had an enjoyable day back in late Jan / early Feb with plenty of roach & a 6.5lb mirror, but yesterday was hard going; I managed 4 small roach & a perch that just about merited the net. Not a great return on an 80 minutes round trip but as all those around me blanked I really can't complain!

As long as you're catching more than those around you, you're not doing too bad:thumbs:

---------- Post added at 20:35 ---------- Previous post was at 20:32 ----------

First Peter posted an upside down shot of a canal cut and then tincatim posted some pics taken while lying on his side, I think some anglers on here have been imbibing quite a few bevvies to celebrate the Easter bank holidays LOL.. :)

Great reports though :)

I think there must be some FM bugs at work here, all of the pictures are the right way up on my phone. It's got nothing to do with the amount of drunk I've beer!:beer::beer::thumbs:

Popped out for a bit of Match Practice today at Fennes, Hills and Black.
when I got the car loaded this morning there was a goodly layer of ice on the screen, so I nipped back indoors and donned a body warmer and slung a coat in the car just in case... after a busy slog up the A120 we arrived at 07:30 to find the lake gates shut... and so they remained till gone 8am.... if the water is supposed to open at 07:30 it should be open at 07:30 not when some lazy ****** decides to turn up.... (remember yer blood pressure old son:eek:mg:) anyway.... I digress...

Once the day ticket was bought and we got to the water I set up a short 8' feeder for a bit of pellet feeder work at about 30 yards out.. first cast was a bream of about 2lb then some small roach.... All the while I had been feeding an inside line about 4m out for a pole attack later on...

after about 5 bream all of a similar size, the feeder line dried up... It had been a bit hit and miss and I had to ring the hookbait changes between pellet corn and maggot before unclipping and going further out, but even that did not ring the dinner gong any further, so I came in on the pole and started catching good roach on maggot. Then I got royally smashed by a carp, after I had changed my hooklink I got back out and after feeding a small pot of maggot pellet and corn, I started catching some lumpy bream on the 2+2 line... a few bumped roach on the size 12-14 red hollow laccy was my cue to downsize to a size 6-8 yellow hollow , the roach stopped getting bumped and the side pulla on the Drennan Red Range pole took care of the bigger bream... Sweet:cool:

Then I had to endure the noise of some randy frogs making out in the shallows, I took a walk down to the next peg where my buddy was having a tough time of it with only 3 fish so I took the p*ss a bit and went back to me peg and took a shot of my shop

a few more bream came to my net and I suppose that I topped up with about 18-23lbs for a few hours dangling then my buddy had to head home to help move his Mother In Law into his house...:eek:mg:

So we took our leave of Fennes for a wee while and will be back in a fortnight for the club match... with 30 odd anglers trundling round the water I reckon it'll be a bit tougher than today... still we'll give it a go:wh:cool::D

Crikey Arthur! Do you lay that lot out with a protractor and a set square?

That photo absolutely has to get a "Like" from PJ. :D

Fished a club lake with a mate today. Both of us on light cage feeder and maggot. We both caught skimmers and roach with a proper bream each too.
It wasn't half hot in today's sun too.

No mathematical instruments were used in the creation of that picture...:p

Where waters meet
I fished from 7.30am til 10am today.

Two farm ponds.

The first one full of weed so a texas rigged weedless shad was on the end of the lines.

A 3.5" one on the medium rod with wire trace, and a 1.5" on the ul setup with 6lb fluro leader. First circuit with the bigger bait, second with the smaller offering.

Not a sign of a fish so I walked down to the lower pond and repeated the process, but with small bait first. The pond has had some work and wasn't weedy at all, but I still continued with the weedless rigs as its fun not loosing baits and being able to cast into trees:eek:mg:

A jack hit the 1.5" bait and we didn't connect. I quickly switched to the rod with the trace (now with a 4" worm) It hit it again, left the water, then came off. A switch to a normally rigged lure would have avoided this, I'm sure.

Nice to be out before the farm workers had started up on a lovely spring morning.

Well, I’ve let you down good and proper today with a complete blank.

Fished the same water which I had the nice perch from last week and think I mentioned it was sometimes a case of fishing for one or two bites and today was just the one which came around three hours in and just as I was chopping more worms…

And I missed it!

Still, a great day to be out blanking and I remembered to put the beers in the fridge before leaving this morning

Out over the weekend for sure but might try and sneak a local one in on Friday and risk the odd stares down the town centre dam to see what surprises a half a pint of reds might throw up.

Wife's been very poorly so haven't been out for a while. Planning a few hours into dark on Friday though.

This thread really does make you want to get out and 'do it'!

I fished the open match at Tunnel Barn Farm yesterday,34 anglers crammed onto 55 pegs on high Pool,it was always going to be hard, peg 43 was my home for the day,16m wide with a sheer drop behind the peg,but a tree with a nicely placed branch made shipping a bit easier,if i needed to go long..I started the match on 2+1,fishing expander, and kindering micros, and had 9 quick F1,s,i,d been throwing pellets 6m,all the time with a view to going shallow..Pete Hancox(local legend),caught 2 fish shallow,so that was my cue to go on it,...The next 2 hours ,i added 40 F1,s ,to my tally, and then the sun came out and the wind dropped and the fish disapeared:(..everyone was struggling into the 4th hour,so i bit the bullet and fished 10mm bread disc at 16m,adding another 20 F1,s.and a mirror to my tally...when the scales got round to me 65lb was top weight, and my 70 F1,s only went 59lb,Pete Hancox ,2 pegs down had 66lb,so i ended up 3rd on the day,and leaving me wishing i,d gone over sooner, never mind a great match, and great weather, got a match at Toft Carp Lake at Rugby tomorrow:D..Cheers,Gazza

I had a good afternoons sport on a club lake, where I have set myself a personnel target.

a 20lb Carp on the Cane, something I never managed to do back in the 60tys !!

I had some nice Carp, but nothing near the target I'm after.

Very tidy set up Arthur however I note your landing net is on the same side as your roller(s) ? Are you left handed? How do you ship your landing net handle back without it clattering on your pole? Or was it just parked there for the pic?

I'm semi ambidextrous.... the net is usually parked on the end of the ripple bar during fishing or on the left leg of the footplate... One of the problems I have is I feed right handed, I hold a rod and reel in my right hand and to land a fish I use my left hand...

I pole fish left handed meaning I swap a pole from my left hand to my right so I can use the left hand to use the landing net, I get into a tangle sometimes... at the mo I'm trying to use a conventional right hand setup but old habits are hard to break

Rather than being Left or Right handed I'd say I'm Monstrously Cack handed:eek:mg:

Stuck on the chuffin M25 somewhere between Heathro
An afternoon on Farmoor after a trite or two for me today. Far too bright and flat calm so I expected to struggle and did. However I did manage to winkle 3 fish out from 4 takes which, given the lousy conditions, was better than I dared hope for. The Big Feller had a serge.

However one of the rangers up there was having a go for the pike .I didn't ask why he was allowed to when I wasn't but that's neither here nor there...a perk perhaps.

He had 4 today. Smallest 22lb and the biggest 26lb 10oz.:eek: Its not bullshet either...we saw the photos and they looked good for every ounce. Now that's not a bad days fishing !
