Not sure you can fish it now. WA used to have a stretch but not any more.
Lymm have the stretch above the Weir at Warburton . They gave up the lower stretches from the Weir down to the ship canal , all the good stretches ,Altrincham had two stretches below the Weir .
Warrington had the stretch around Dunham island on the A56.
A good stretch is from the airport road to mobberly , I don't know who has that .
I know a few who have fished below the Weir and not been challenged .

During the previous week i had a days predator fishing at Graffham to be honest it was the polar opposite of a red letter day. The forecast for the day was brisk winds but it was evident that the gusts over 30mph would make fishing difficult. The spray washing over the boat found their way into my bad ment everything got soaked. The day went from bad to worse the gas cannister for my stove froze and the outboard failed which ment we had to row back luckily we moved during the afternoon and was only around 100yards from the Quay. The excessive rocking of the boat didn't help my mood and was feeling groggy dispite taking travel sickness tablets. Certainly a day to forget and as Fred J would have said " I will be glad when I have had enough of this"

The Bollin is on the PAAS card or at least a 2 mile stretch is close to me. I fished it a couple of times in the spring and had grayling and rainbow trout but none much more than 1lb.
There used to be good sized rainbows of around 3lb at Warburton, along with decent grayling and barbel of 6.8lb.
Carp into double figures ,if you knew where to look and double figure pike , if caught below the Weir ,were quickly rehomed above it . A good spot was where the Bollin entered the Manchester Ship Canal ,a wide variety of fish were caught there .

After a couple of cooler, rainy days I hoped the river would have a little flow. On arrival at my local river Lot my hopes were dashed! The merest trickle of autumn leaves moving at a snails pace, just under the opposite bank 80 metres away!

Normally the strong November flow would limit me to fishing a crease mid-river, but just now there was not the slightest movement in that area. I knew fishing was going to be a struggle!

IMG_20221105_194120.jpg

Fortunately I had the Korum Big Water 13' 2.75 TC rod with me and that easily put an 85gr weight and boilie under the trees opposite. In fact I had to brake the line with my fingers on a couple of casts to stop my end tackle being lost in the trees!

I had bites every cast when my bait landed close to the trees. The barbel were small, all under 3 lbs! I tried shorter casts but the fish were simply not there, they were lined up in the only moving water just under the far bank.

Alistair had joined me on this trip but could not cast the required distance and blanked.

Eventually I put on a 24mm boilie to stop the little barbel finding my hook. They still eagerly pulled at the bait, these little fish have a great appetite! But eventually a bigger fish wandered in and managed to hook himself, at just over 5 lbs it put a decent bend in the strong rod.

This swim used to hold big carp on a regular basis. Where are they hiding in these low flow conditions? Not a sign of them moving here for months now!

I met up with a former workmate yesterday - we try to hook up at least a couple of times a year to take him out of his comfort zone, as chasing salmon on the fly is his first love these days. He's based a good hour north of me so we try to find a suitable breakfast venue and day ticket venue about half way and yesterday saw us returning to Whittle-le-Woods near Chorley. We have previously only fished waggler / feeder here but knowing that there are Pike to be had, we also took lure rods. Thomo decided to go all out for Pike & also brought his deadbaiting gear with him.

I mixed small amount of gb laced with casters & put some out with a view to going on the waggler a bit later on, but kicked off with the lure rod with a Shakey 'Big S' on the trace - 3rd cast and I was in - I'd say in the 5 - 6lb range and it even did me the courtesy of unhooking itself in the net! I wandered the full length of our bank with no further interest, so went to see what could be tempted on the waggler? In short, not much - fishing twin caster on the hook at dead depth I had a number of small Roach and a few Skimmer with perhaps 3 just about justifying the net. The rain that was forecast duly arrived, so I decided to go back on the lures rather than sitting getting wet.

Did have another, smaller jack of about 3lb (which also unhooked itself in the net) but that was it. It was getting towards packing up / go for a pint time and Thomo was staring down the barrel of a blank but had a take from a similar size to my first right at last knockings. We retired to a nearby pub to enjoy a pint and take in most of the first half of Spurs-Liverpool... happy days!

After some frustratingly slow days, a red letter day for perch on the river. Up about a foot, dropping and a nice sherry colour . Overcast , breezy and mild and I did have guarded optimism for the odd fish. Using drop shot , and two lobworms on a size 1 hook I had a 3-12 on my fifth cast , and 20 minutes later a 3-9 . 28 more perch followed in the next 2 .5 hours , including fish of 1-15, 2-6 and 2-9 . Most of the others were 8oz to 1-8 (estimated) . Some came on dropshot lure , as worms were running out and I bumped at least 15 other fish which snatched at the lure /bait .

Gear was 7-6 Drennan dropshot, Daiwa Legalis 3000 and 15lb Ron Thompson braid , with 12 lb flourocarbon leader .

As usual, the perch hadn't read any articles at all about perch fishing as they were nowhere near features (or 'structure ' if you will ), but in open water , near the main flow . They also failed to start a feeding frenzy at dusk , stopping taking a good 30 minutes before , and feeding from 1 - 30 onwards.

I might sneak back tomorrow- can you blame me ?

Some pics(rubbish, as per) in big perch thread , NB the scales are Korum compact , in case you think I'd caught an eight pounder ...

Good weather forecast for today and at breakfast Sally says "We should have a picnic at Vers, you could take a rod". Being a good husband I was not going to argue!

It's a lovely 35 minute drive down the Lot valley and the temperature was already in the 20c+ range by 11am. When we parked up in Vers we decided on a short walk before setting up for our picnic (and the fishing, of course! ;) )

A very scenic stretch of the river here.....

1667837836453.jpg

We crossed Le Vers stream and the first pool was solid with tiny chub (I think!).....

IMG_20221107_114519.jpg

A few yards downstream the pool was full of roach, a few bigger chub and perch cruised amongst them like kiddies in a sweet shop......

IMG_20221107_114814.jpg

When we got back to the campsite stretch I set up our chairs and had a rod fishing in quick time......

IMG_20221107_171506.jpg

First barbel was netted before the picnic was out....

IMG_20221107_164629.jpg

Doublie boilie with a paste wrap slowed down the little ones. I reckon the river must have been solid with small barbel, every cast had bites within seconds. I just had to be patient until one with a bigger mouth came along! Nothing big though, probably 3.5 lbs the best.

But a very pleasant few hours and Sally sat in the sun reading her book. Not bad for November!

Had an afternoon on the River Charente. I'd had two barbel and a river pig out last week and I still think there is more to come if I keep fishing it. Problem is, it is 80km so not local.

Friday was four bites, one break and three landed in consequetive casts all on fake maize. Today they played silly burgers. Lots of wrap wounds with no hook up. Changed rigs, hooks, bait several times and eventually landed two barbel on 16mm Source boilies before my 5 o'clock deadline. This was the best

Dour, damp and gloomy couple of days on my club lake for pike. Leaves everywhere.
Thats two days for two jackpike!! Hey ho thats life.
The highlight today was a robin that kept sitting on my thighs waiting for maggots. Unfortunately for it my makrell was too big to manage.

As a Leeds year book holder I went to one of our waters today.was meant to be going to another venue but due to my mate dropping out went to join another one of my mates.the place was a disgrace bins overflowing discarded luncheon meat tins in more than one peg.smashed platforms and try not to laugh when I say you need a key to get into the place.my mate has a key which all leeds members can obtain(don't think I'll bother) and opened the gate for me at approx 08.00.i managed 2 roach on the pole with maggots no takes on the leger rod I heard the place was fishing hard but jesus that was an understatement.this is the not the 1st leeds water I've visited which is fishing poor and been left to rack and ruin.its as if no one cares anymore

Speaking just for myself, not very well. Having looked at the glorious pics of the Lot taken by Steve, I’m glad I didn’t bother taking pics of the venue as it was dark, miserable and very windy. As usual I started on the feeder and Gordon on the float but it was slow, very slow and just a few small perch fell to maggots and to Gordon. I couldn’t get a bite for love nor money and only switching to a maggot feeder avoided a blank. Mind you one perch for several hours sat in the mud, in a gale and with no phone signal was hardly a fair reward. Gordon continued to catch perch and a few more roach with quite a few being netters. He had around 15 at least with me just the one. It was a horrible day weather wise with some drizzle and I hate mud.

we packed up at around 1.30 largely because I had had enough. There will be better days and I wish I knew which ones they were going to be.😉

I haven't posted anything on here for ages, but then I have yet to pick up again the float/pole/feeder gear I put down in June. Since I've been either after barbel on the river or carp on the res, the reports would look like I was posting the same pics and story over and over. I'll soon be back fishing for roach, though, as the barbel fishing is thinning out into winter mode, and I can't bear many sessions fishing for a couple of bites. This afternoon was a case in point: two bites in three hours fishing slugs of flavoured meat up to nearside snags with a lump of modelling clay meant to pull off where a lead would snag. I was handicapped with one of those hopeless Shimano reels, but luckily, between the birds' nests, the useless controls and the dazzling bling, it managed to reel a couple in.

Lovely autumn weather at the moment, it will not last so I decided to try a swim I have not got around to previously. First looked at it two years ago but it is only fishable in quite low water conditions. Usually that means summer and this is a spot known well to holiday bathers!

But the river Lot is still low and I felt the weir might attract some better barbel. As usual I told Alistair and his Freelander is always handy for the dodgy tracks!

IMG_20221110_133919.jpg

I was getting bites within minutes, but it was Alistair that caught the first fish. A nice 6lb+ barbel which carried the scars from an encounter with, probably, a big silure.

1668101895748.jpg

I had a 6 pounder shortly after, followed by a couple of 3 pounders. Alistair managed another 6 pounder and one about 2 pounds.

If the river is low this is a handy swim for future use. As soon as there is another foot of water the beach here will shrink into the trees. The river is usually too powerful in November for this swim, this piece of video shows a not exceptional state!

I was going to go fishing today and I checked the river levels. Its is down to .99 meters. Last time I fished it it was 2.88 meters and it was very flooded, right over the bank and almost over the wall into the castle grounds opposite. The normal summer level is around .5 meters. So it should be fishable although running hard and swollen. However the weather is a bit better tomorrow, less wind and quite sunny. The river would have gone down a bit more by then. This time I well take plenty of bread, maybe some maggots and some finely chopped luncheon meat, for the roach as well as the chub and hopefully it will be better than last time. I hope the paddle boarders have not decided to come out to play, being a Saturday, I could go elsewhere but I have had this stretch on my mind the last couple weeks, some nice chub and I have always thought the possible big roach

Back on usual fishery today, and for a change it stayed dry all day, club have just stocked some more F1s, and they were the main catch today, had 14 on the pole fishing maggot over soaked micro pellets, plus Ide, roach and skimmers taking my total catch to 25 fish.

had one carp on the tip rod at lunch, but it came off after it’s first run, no more carp hooked and they didn’t come into the margins later.

very windy but some of the pegs were sheltered so picked one of these, as I was the first there, not a bad day Neale had a few, and the other two fishing both caught, I netted an 18lb carp for one of them, it was a very nice common which gave him a good scrap.

so for November not a bad day at all, it was warm enough at 14 degrees, enjoyed it.

Slow day on the Charente. Now that I am a pensioner I invested in litre of maggots from Arkwrights, our ,ocal tackle shop. When I say "a litre of maggots" what I got was a litre of bran with a few maggots hiding in it. Not only that, but I bought them on Wednesday and a third of them had already turned. €8,17 that cost me .,

Today was sun, sun, sun all the way and I had bought the maggots to try for perch. You can see where this is heading? Nothing came to feast on the poor, miserable grubs except two chub and even they only ate the pink ones! I had even dug out my one and only pole to be able to precisely place my bait under the tree canopy. Waste of time that was.

By 2pm the barbel swim was bathed in shade and six droppers of hemp maize and pellets had been delivered 2 hours earlier. The last two visits here had resulted in good sessions. Today however the boilies remained unmolested and the fake maize that was the star of the show last Friday died on stage. Thank goodness a random, passing bream couldn't resist the worm that the perch did. Preserved my 6 month blankless record.
