I think the bread recommendation was that it was a different bait to others and is by a distance a better bait.
Kind'a distance we talkin' then?

Close in, margins....off the top, in a punch, as flake but never as a doughy lump.
Bread is the ultimate can't resist having a go at that before someone else snaffles it..in the right hands it could be deadly, you should try sometime, practice makes perfect.
I think there are lots of better baits than bread for targetting barbel though....especailly magots and corn
And pellets :behindsofa:

Yeph, and luncheon meat for legering
Although i'd rather catch one whilst trotting than 20 whilst legering.
Wanna buy some????
Depends on conditions river etc, but for winter in can be deadly used with a small feeder....of course I use all the conventional barbel baits, and high up on preferred baits would be meat. But bread is much over looked as a proper Barbel bait, if you need proof of this ask Martin James.
If I was him I would have checked your credentials ha! But you probably missed the fact he is the bread man ..
You've lost me there twitcher, what are you on about?
The man is a legend with bread, and you by your own admission your views on rod licence's :wh
Sorry pal, you really have lost me?
I do know MJ used to like using sausage meat, maybe he's gone off it, I ain't got a clue, does it really matter?
MJ is the bread maestro that is a given, you should ask him for a few pointers perhaps next time?
Lol Breakspeare is the sausage meat king.
Just saying...
