In mitigation , our Gallic ami is stated as being head of an association of a Department . The latter is similar to an English county ,ie a local government area , but officials in angling clubs on both sides of the channel sometimes have curious ideas ....
Yes, that is correct, the resemble the old English Counties in many ways, but are more autonimous in making local decisions. This president has influence on what rules and regulations are imposed on the anglers fishing in the department. In the Charente the committee are rabid pro-black bass to the exent that huge areas of the lakes local to me are now closed off for fishing as they aredeemed to be black bass nurseries. The same black bass species that specialises in eating frogs. The same frogs that are now classed by the department as an endangered species........

Ah - so akin to 'Warning !!! Lake CLOSED!!! Carp spawning !!! '

Regardless of the fact that -
- they rarely spawn successfully
- even if they did , nobody will want to fish for the progeny for years
- the lake is never closed when other species spawn and
- how can I put this ? Some anglers don't actually fish for carp or even err... like them very much

Yes, exactly. Like the whole 20 acre arm of Lac Mas Chaban where I used to fish in summer is now totally out of bounds 365 days a year. And the best part of another arm that is now equally out of bounds so the frog munching non-indigineous species can thrive, and when frogs have hibernated, feast on the shoals of roach that I used to fish for.

And they have put the annual Carte de Peche up €5 to €110 next year. Les pecheurs are up in arms citing the canoeists and paddle boarders who pay nothing and yet benefit from facilities our money has funded. There will be a revolution. They have history!

I like em !

I recon we dont have enough ! I think we should keep stocking them till they are literally spraying out of man hole covers in the road so I can dance like Fred Astair in a veritable deluge of glorious Carp...and that still wont be enough !

There are already that many carp in France that I reckon that if you left a bucket of water out overnight there would be carp in it the next morning.

Carp hating is not new. This angler's opinion on carp was was written in 1577.

"would there were fewer; they bear such a sway in the river that all other fish are almost gone. They may be compared to some stout, needy upstarts,........."

Bivvies, buzzers and crates of lager hadnt been invented back in 1577 ...if they had bet he would have written this instead..

"For p******d am I in tented abode, waiting for that jolly fat racsal to pull my string and bleep-bleep-bleep thou shalt hook oneself on 4oz of church roofing & stir me from thy slumber"
