Not one for modesty when it comes to your own abilities, Clive, but I'm pleased you give credit to your dog.

In fact, when it comes to the intelligence of the average Bobby, I dare say most of us would estimate it to be just below that of a German Shepherd. 🦮

So how many of the 140,000 or so police officers have you encountered to form an opinion of the average? You are a bit loose with these sort of statements which suggests that you yourself could be a bit lacking in the grey matter. Btw: you have misquoted me.

It wasn't a statement, Clive, it was a joke. There is a difference, but either way you obviously can't take it when it's aimed at your ex-profession.

But Cheshire Police used to be a client of mine and I've met police officers who have given me a far worse impression than the one I'm joking about here. One of the decent ones became a good friend (coincidentally, I helped him relocate to France) and he had some stories to tell, not least about colleagues routinely helping themselves to confiscated cocaine as a prelude to a night on the lash - cheaper than beer Guv. I expect you'll tell us they're all saints.

PS. How on earth could I have misquoted you, when I copied your actual post? No wonder you only got as far as dog handler. :ROFLMAO:

Ah. So now its a joke when you get it wrong? What excuse did you use when you mislaid 400 million Chinese?

As for your comments about expecting me to defend my colleagues; you must have missed the posts where I said that I had instigated an enquiry into corruption between senior police officers, council planning officers and the biggest criminal on our patch. Or the reporting of a sergeant who was helping himself to the contents of the property store and other matters. Or telling the Chief Superintendent that he couldn't run a police station car park and then having him agree when he questioned me about it.

You can't even copy paste correctly. Your post says;

. I was lucky enough to achieve my ambition of being a dog handler and thus able to solve many crimes and thus able to solve many crimes that even the most senior and experienced detectives would not have been able to.

There is a touch of the Fred Ellliots in there.

Well if you think a joke (or an opinion, for that matter) is the same thing as a statement of fact, then I can't help you.

But who says I got it wrong?

I would imaging the general public is more closely aligned with my views about Plod than they are with yours. From what I've read of exchanges between you and others, people on this forum certainly seem to think so.

No, but you might need a dictionary. And you might like to actually read people's replies to your questions before commenting, because we could see the accusation of hypocrisy coming from a mile off... your opinion was already formed.

So, to answer the accusation of hypocrisy, in terms that you might understand, or choose not to. I've never told anyone else how they should behave. Plus, I've openly admitted that it's not always possible to stick to my own beliefs. Those are not the attributes of a hypocrite, but of someone with a certain view, but one that he doesn't impose upon others.

The way in which the question was posited was infantile. The point I made was that the Chinese economy has boomed on the back of cheap labour. The need for slaves (upon which all the great empires were built) is irrelevant to China since it has such a huge population, the majority of whom are on subsistence level wages. China will argue that the economic boom has taken millions out of poverty. That's true, but that argument is spurious because the population has boomed and millions more still live on the poverty line (btw, I've been to rural China and seen this for myself). One of my nieces is Chinese. She tells me that besides a totalitarian system that allows no political freedoms or choice, the phenomenon that has kept the CCP in power is the rise of the middle class. Some time in the future, if and when the economy falters, the middle classes will turn on the CCP. Until then nothing will change.
.
Sorry. Had important things to do. Like buying a toothbrush and some Lemsip.....

So, you dont want to prop up an evil communist regime which oppresses its population and treats them like slaves by buying a Cadence rod......but your principals, it seems, go out of the window for an Acolyte. So that regime is OK then if the rod is a higher price.

'Do as i say don't do as I do'...springs to mind

This reminds me of the thread on maggotdrowners forum where MickTheChippy (god rest his soul) had a pop at carpmagic about top end match fishing … little realising that said carpmagic was in fact Steve Ringer
😉

. To be fair, they both took it in good heart
😀
That was a brilliant thread on MD I was laughing as I read it .
