Hi Mark , not sure they are available anymore . I use a Preston Hardcase which I inherited from my cousin . It's similar but the pockets are on the inside.
I’ve read through all of this in the hope of finding an old school rod bag. I use a solar bag for my carping (rods made up inside). A Korum quiver for my barbel fishing (2 rods, and a specialist float rod made up), but for my general course fishing it’s a float rod and 2 quiver tip rods in their bags carried along with the landing net pole etc in one hand, a bucket and bits in the other with a rug sack on my back. What I’d give to find a plain old rod bag like I used as a lad/ young man in the 70’s & 80s, rods in the zipped section, umbrella in an outer pocket, and bank sticks in a smaller outer pocket
Thanks I’ll have a look at themYou're not the only one. That "plain old rod bag" has been squeezed out by quivers, hard case etc, and if you do find something it's likely to be 6' + long to accommodate the longer sections of poles. I've got my general stuff in tubes poking out of a quiver just now. It gets them there and back but is less than neat and exposing the top foot or more means rods have to go in tubes. I got one of those Browning "smooth" holdalls - no external pockets, nothing to catch on other gear in the car etc - but it's way more capacious than I need and is a puzzle in itself - I have to open several zips to find what went where. Before that, I used a TriCast Pole holdall - get 4 tubes in with two external pockets. Very robust but heavy out of proportion to its function.
Here are the two nearest, aside from used ones on ebay, that I've found. NGT do one
NGT Match Coarse Fishing Black Rod Holdall Accessory Carryall 187cm + 20 Hooks | eBay
The NGT rod holdall covers all the needs of the angler. This rod holdall is made from high quality black fabric that is both hard wearing and looks good. (Sizes may vary). Plenty of storage for rods and pockets for landing handles and bank sticks etc.www.ebay.co.uk
which you can find for as little as £17. Some NGT stuff is great. For instance, their lead cases make great reel cases for 3 or 4000 size reels. But I once bought a quiver in what looks like the same material and it was a sad affair with no substance to it.
Midwater do what looks like a cute old style rod bag, with umpteen length and colour options between £30 and £40, or to your own spec. I have a few things from them, like reel cases and seat cushions, and they make quality items.

That’s what I’m after. I quite like the look of the midwater one Nottskev put a link to, but will have a look at this as well, thanksMark, do you mean an old style rod holdall, ie one that holds a few tubes, with external pockets for umbrella, landing net pole and bank sticks, as I believe Drennan do two that hold different numbers of tubes, I went into Priory Tackle in Bedford a couple of days ago and I'm sure I saw another brand that did them too(if Drennan still manufacture them)....
I'm still using a Brennan and Hickman sleeve type rod holdall, it must be 40 years old, probably more, made of plastic coated material, tough as old boots and waterproof, a brilliant product....
and they're mostly 6ft or more.Nearly all the major brands do rod holdalls with external pockets for umbrellas and banksticks
I have just given a friend a Frenzee 4-6 tube pole holdall ( don't let the pole holdall bit put you off) it has large external pocket for umbrella and smaller one for bank sticks etc . Daiwa,Drennan,Leeda to name a few few do similar .
Bargain Gordon.Reading this thread is tempting me to out mine on eBay. Rare vintage Leeda rod holdall £1500.
and they're mostly 6ft or more.
Leeda , dark blue less than 6' tall .Or in the hideous colours of their branding - dayglo orange, hi viz lime etc. If it was that easy to find an old-school holdall we wouldn't be searching or asking.

Try Midwater , they will make one to your specificationsYou're right, Mark. I had a Daiwa one. But it didn't last long. And a Browning one, black with yellow piping. That lasted even less. They're both in the shed keeping garden implements tidy.
Best of the type I ever had, a Fox one with Jan Porter's name on. Lasted through the 90's. Obviously, they had to discontinue those - lasted far too long.
Btw, I've got my eye on just the right place for that Shimano rod you sold me many moons ago. But I think it will be at 15' rather than 17'.
