Anyone know if they're available in smaller sizes to suit float/quivertip rods etc?

Can't see too much out there other than the bigger ones which can do a job but tend to float around a bit...or is there a cheap and cheerful solution?

Looking for something bit better than just bands or velcro straps.

An elastic band doubled, tripled or quadrupled (you get the idea) over a point below an eye will hold them on without any fuss.

I also use laggy bands around my baitdropper rod to secure the baitdropper to the rod below the tip protector whilst transporting it in the quiver to avoid the ringing bell effect.

Thanks but really looking for a carp style protector in a smaller size. Find them incredibly handy when throwing rods in back of car and lot easier than bands etc.

As Preston is the match/general arm of the Korum/Avid/Preston empire, it might suggest that these might fit the bill for you.

I don't tend to use such things on my match/general rods, so I've no idea if the Preston ones are any good. However, I do use both the Aqua and Fox neoprene on may of my carp and specialist rods. They are pretty much the same. Neither are so outlandishly huge as to be next to useless on lighter rods. The snag with both is that they appear to have been discontinued. However, they are still out there if you look.

The Preston ones look like they might be the right size - hard to tell without seeing them. Jazzy blue colour but hey ho..

I have some Korda ones, Jim. They're in a black leatherette material with elasticated drawstring on the handle part and velcro strap on the twin-partition tip protector. They're unpadded, but the material is reasonably stiff and it's this that affords protection. Photo to follow. :)

Drennan are supplying their acolyte feeder rods with tip protectors included so I would imagine they'll be easy enough to order from a tackle shop or even online.

I use 8 inches of knicker elastic (I'm sure there is a joke there somewhere!).

For those of you who haven't come across it yet, Vetwrap (also Vetrap) is an elasticated bandage that sticks only to itself (bit like soft elesticated velcro) different widths and colours. Couple of turns round gives a secure soft band and within reason a tip protector. I seem to keep finding lots of uses for it !!

I do own a couple of rod tip protectors but nowerdays I don't often use them; much preferring a full length rod sleeve which will fit onto the outside of a quiver, I feel it gives me a lot more protection for my made-up rod(s). I got fed up with catching undergrowth and branches before with my exposed rods and line LOL.

What kind of quiver and sleeves do you use Keith ?
I'm considerring getting a drennan super specialist three rod quiver, i've just gott'a have a look at one first. I need a quiver with good sized pouches to be able to accomadate the the rod sections of some Harrison Chimera rods I have. The bottom guide on the top section is only an inch or so above the bottom of the section so when it's next to the neoprene rod handle it needs some room to fit without damaging the guide. I got a korum quiver not long ago and the pouches where too small for the rod to fit in so I sold it for next to nowt!

Have you considered the old Nash Shuttle? It has a 5 rod capacity, generous central pocket with zip-off lid (will take a small bivvy) and an ingenious foldaway "tool roll" for banksticks and suchlike. Three of the pockets are deep and wide enough to swallow a rod up to the reel (including the reel if the handle's short!)

Oops! that's the Shuttle 2, mines the Shuttle 5. Didn't realise they were made in three sizes (there's a 3 as well.)

The new Nash quiver looks good:

Thank's for the links Rob but i'd need to see one in the flesh before buying one off the net, i've done that too many times.
I got a traker two rod made up holdall recenty and when I got home the bloody rods wouldn't fit in without being shoe horned in and then I noticed there was no divider right down below the reel pouches and the two rods where squashed together...just asking for damage. The rods I have are 74 inch long when broken down and even though a lot of rod holdalls are advertised as taking 12ft rods with ease, they don't!
I was lucky with the traker as I got it from a local shop and they refunded me when I took it back.

Because I store my rods inside the rod sleeve ready made up and folded down it's only the rod handle and the rod tip (plus the sleeve itself) that needs to fit into the bottom pocket of the quiver.

NB: I haven't had any problems (with tip damage) by having the tip lying against the rod butt inside the rod sleeve (and quiver) and the bottom pocket of the quiver only needs to be around 4 or 5 inches wide to be able to slip the rod sleeve (containing the rod) inside it.

I have a small 'one rod' quiver which takes one ready made up rod (in a rod sleeve) on the outside with my landing net handle in the central compartment of the quiver (with a brollie if needed) and my landing net head and banksticks inside side pockets, this is ideal when I am traveling light.
However I'm not sure that one rod quivers are still sold in tackle shops nowerdays.

I also have a 3 rod quiver and a 5 rod quiver but the 5 rod quiver (made by Daiwa) doesn't get used as it is far too bulky, but it also came with 5 x 6'.6" rod sleeves in which I keep 13ft 2 piece rods and use in the other 2 smaller quivers.

NB: If I do have worries about rod tip safety Inside a sleeve I sometimes use small purpose built rubber clips/holders which hold the tip and butt sections apart. These small rubber clips/holders can be bought from tackle shops.

Since when has my word not been good enough, Ian? :D

I'll add some pics of the Shuttle later, loaded up ,so you can see what I mean. You may still decide not to bother, but everyone else can have a skeg, too. :)

Re the original post, I have both Nash Tip Tops (average) and Korum tip protectors (good).

I am a firm believer in protecting my tip!!
