The longest standing record for fish found in British freshwater is the 64lb salmon caught in 1922 from the River Tay by Georgina Ballantyne.

Some would argue of course that the salmon is not a true freshwater fish, being migratory.

The current record list can be found on the NFSA website here:

http://www.nfsa.org.uk/

The Barbel record is actually stated incorrectly. Since 15th February 2005 the Barbel record has been held by a 20 lb 6 oz fish caught by Tony Gibson

Well done if you caught it, hope you have a camera with you next time fella :)

i wish dave i really do, it ate one of my small perch while i was fishing the pole and it also grabbed my lead while i was realing in a pike rig, so ive seen it 3 times, the once that i saw a photo it is a truly magnificent fish. but the info cost me a fortune in beer, i had to get the guy who caught it drunk before hed let on.
I now realise why he stands there smiling slightly and saying nowt when the conversation gets round to big fish.

Andy - that record list having an incorrect barbel record illustrates what we were talking about earlier in that a lot of people don't know the individual fish record weights but when you visit a list like the NFSA one it's not correct!

If I'm not mistaken didn't the Silver Bream go this summer too?
