And your were an 'Environment/Ecological Consultant' you say ? Were your reports as restrained as your posts ?

I wouldn't worry about it, it is all irrelevant anyway. I just carry on regardless. I have started some momentum on this, a discussion on the clubs Facebook page, invited some quotes from a specialist company for some specific work and a friend is getting me an introduction to a boss of a local small landscape company he knows. Very very early days yet and may come to nothing but who knows, but I will update any development or relevant information if anyone is still interested.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon on one of these work parties. As the songs says, the heat was hot and the ground was dry and the air was full of sound. Mostly the sound of things coming to sting or bite you. With only a banana and a bottle of water, surely my Human Rights were being abused? Four of us - one in the water cutting space out of the reed beds, one on the bank taking the cut reeds away, and me and another dude clearing the path and a bit of space around the swims with hedge cutters and shears - soon turned an unfishable bank into one with a small number of classic gap swims. No tenders were invited, no consultants consulted and no company enriched with our hard-earned money. We'll do a bit on another bank later.

And what did I get for a couple of hours of sweaty labour? A righteous thirst. Bites, scratches, aches and pains. Another couple of fishing friends. An invitation to fish the water - an ancient monastery fish pond well off the beaten track, any time I like and free of charge. A head start tutorial on the water, its features, the fish, their habits. This is no chore; it's the kind of stuff that enriches your fishing and saves you from snake lake and doughnut pool hell.

I think it was Ian who posted it's amazing what a few like-minded people can do if, as the Nike ad says, they just do it.
