Does anyone possess a Daiwa Basia X45 1.75 tc barbel rod and can you tell me the ring sizing.i have looked on line but cannot find details save that the tip ring isn’t antifrap. It doesn’t look like the rod has a horrible 40 pr 50mm butt ring but wanted to check.

Though I have seen one in the flesh, I can't be 100% certain. However, it is quite unusual to find any barbel rod with a 40mm butt ring. I've never, ever seen one with a 50mm butt ring. The only barbel rods I've seen with butt rings larger than 30mm have been customs where the buyer has specified their use. Occasionally, you see someone fishing for barbel with carp rods that have 40mm(+) butt rings.

I had a 2.75 which I won , being the only bidder at the start of lockdown, new from TFT.Fabulous rod. Sadly it was far too strong for my needs so it went. There's a guy in Liverpool on Facebook who has a used once example for 125. It's a snip. I would have bought it but he would not post. Asking 150 now but if anyone is bearish and can collect I would advise them to buy. I remember them as one of my all time favourites!

ps. only barbel rods I have seen with a big ring were the martin bowlers, which I so disliked when they arrived I never even fished with them.

Made a fair offer as they did not sell. Rejected as expected but things are rapidly changing on the prices front. The signs of belt tightening are there to see on eBay.

I've had a couple of quality items on sale that haven't sold. But I'm not dropping the price; happy to keep them. Certainly won't be handing them over for a song to anyone sharking around for bargains in the cost of living crisis.

Rods are difficult to value now when couriers are so expensive. Hard to see how £30 + carriage cost can not affect the price. They are worth to me to use around 175 each , in the hand so to speak. That I can collect in this instance makes them a possible but add courier costs and they are not in my view . If you are keen Mike let me know. They are still available and I think they will only sell to someone who is local at the asking price

Apparently the Daiwa Basia X45 carp and barbel rods have been discontinued and will be replaced by the Basia X45 X soon if not already. I know no more than that.

Just had a look, online, at the Daiwa Basia barbel rods mentioned in this thread, as they come with some very positive recommendations. I was very surprised to see they have single leg rings throughout. That's a definite no-no for me, on rods that are likely to be carried made-up and used in very testing situations. The 2.25 tc is listed as suited to lines from 6-20lb (!) so why the least robust kind of rings? Anybody struggling with the extra grams could take out a gym subscription.

Hardlite guides double leg,
DPS type Screw down reel seat.
Full carbon blank with 3k weave.
Full cork handle,
Handle feeders to 6oz but has enough finesse for lighter feeders or straight lead approach .
Price £120

Yes, I took the view with mine that it was all part of the current fixation for lightness. Though the saving between 2 and 3 surely is minimal. I got particularly nervous with the AG's air feeder. Quite remarkable performance but when playing a fish, I don't think thinking, wow this rod has got to snap any second. They never did though, have to credit diawa blanks. Felt similar with tourney pros.

I've got 5 Harrison rods that get used for barbel and carp and even the lightest - an Avon - has triple-legged rings throughout. Some are 20 years old and the rings are all perfect and all are carried and stored made-up.

There's more of a case for single-leg rings on light float rods where it's claimed rings with two feet fractionally stiffen the action, but I don't find that any big gain. My ancient Diaflash float rods all have triple-leg rings throughout and you'll struggle to find rods that are as featherweight and sweet-actioned, this side of the rather marmite Acolytes whose action I find peculiar anyway. I have float rods with single leg rings, and even with care you can find rings getting slightly bent on their way into and out of the bag.

On the positive side, Daiwa's rings have saved me from the outside chance of acquiring another rod I don't need.

Despite the sales pitch, there's nothing particularly lightweight about Daiwa Air AGS rods (or any other UK made Daiwa rods). They actually made lighter (weight) float rods back in the 90s. Their lightest match rod offering in a couple of decades was a relatively inexpensive offering (SR3??) that wasn't made in the UK.

My own 13' Air AGS Match rod (original, not the new one with an ALPS reel seat) comes in at 205g on my kitchen scales. Whilst I make no claim about their calibration and accuracy, they are good enough for a comparison. That comparison comes in the form of a 13' Browning Sphere Match which is 145g on the same scales. That 60g difference is slightly over two ounces. Just to further explode the myth of the Air AGS being light, the 17' Drennan Acolyte Float is 201g.

The fact that people have the impression that Daiwa Air AGS rods are light is testament to a combination of their balance and the power of advertising.
