Not sure this is where to ask but do Hardy's still make coarse fishing rods?

Thanks for any info.

Thanks for your reply and the link. I had already visited the site and e-mailed them. I just wondered if anyone had any info while I wait for a reply.

The confusion arises from the time that I was in Gerry's of Wimbledon (London) tackle shop and enquired if I could buy a Hardy Marksman Supero Rod. They were very helpful and immediately called Hardy's only to be told that they had none in stock and weren't making any.

I wonder if I could find one in stock somewhere.

Is it a particular model that you're after?

You will often find many new Hardy Supero's listed on Ebay in addition to some of the original (pre-Supero) Marksmans.

There are occasionally some real bargains to be had with immaculate second hand rods, you will generally tend to find that they have been well looked after and in some cases never used.

If you're really struggling give Walkers of Trowell a ring, excellent advice and usually an enviable stock of Marksmans in store...

I have had to bar myself from setting foot in the place :)

Thanks for the links and the e-bay suggestion. I will keep my eye out.

The rods I am looking for are the Hardy Marksman Supero Specimen rod Code HRMS350 and the Marksman Supero Avon Smuggler 11ft 6in 6 piece rod Code no:HRMS280.

Thanks for your interest.

Hardy Coarse / Match Fishing Products

As they are being discounted heavily, I'd suspect that Hardy have discontinued the range. That will explain the answer you got. Whether Hardy replace the current coarse range is likely to depend on sales and business plans of the parent company, Pure Fishing. Though I have no inside information, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Hardy dropped the coarse range entirely.

Thanks for the link.

I too would not be surprised if Hardy do not come back to the coarse market although they hinted that they would be back after reorganization. It would be a pity if they did not. I have a couple of their Marksman float rods and a Smuggler Avon and I think they are wonderful rods.

Ditto all of that.

I watched a brand new original Marksman ultra-lite smuggler, the 1lb t/c rod, go through Fosters of Birmingham Ebay clearance outlet a few months ago and it still fetched well over two hundred quid.

My ideal big perch rod I reckon, if only I could get hold of a pair :eek:mg:

FWIW I had the following response from Hardy's regarding my enquiry regarding their Marksman Supero Specimen and Avon Smuggler rods:

"I am sorry but we no longer produce these rods".

Hi
Did you find a 350? I missed one on Ebay late September. Its the feeders Hardy are discounting.I bought an extreme 13' last month new which is magical.Far more feel than my Free Spirits.I was so impressed I bought an 2nd hand 11 xt feeder for small waters and that too is magnificent
I was told there are only 2 350's for sale new in tackle shops. One is on Google NWA but at list price.
Hope I dont have to bid against you when the next one apprears on Ebay.
I suspect my 13 with a 3.5 tip will deal with anything I am likely to meet at around 30lb.
regards Alec.

Is the 350 the Supero Extreme Feeder?

If it is i've got the original Marksman version of it and it's an animal of a rod when you need the power yet still, like you say, delivers a good feel and playing experience.

I've rarely used it for long distance work on stillwater but it has been/still is an absolute cracking barbel rod on the river.

I did try to look up the code on the Hardy Coarse site but all the links are now taking me to their game site instead, must have happened within the last few days if so as I was checking out a coarse rod on there the other day.

It's a sad thing if Hardy have stopped making their coarse fishing rods.

Mind you; it could mean that my pre-Supero 4 piece 15ft Hardy Marksman Specialist Float rod may increase its worth; and If so; I'm glad I chose one for my early retirement present from my work colleagues a few years ago LOL

I still wonder if I should have gone for the original Marksman 15' over the Supero Keith, if only to remain consistent with my other rods.

The nature of many big river beast swims which I fish saw me opt for the additional lb line rating although it performed very well on it's maiden voyage :)

Either way I reckon you will be owning a nice asset as time goes by.

Just send those unused ones over Ian and I will make sure they're kept safe and sound with plenty of TLC come the time you need 'em, even if it does mean extending my rack :)

Never seem to be any when I'm looking. I kind of fancy a Marksman Avon Specimen ....the 11 ft 6 in big brother of the Avon Specialist which I have and am still not sure about. The Specimen struck me as nigh on perfect for the sort of barbelling I do. Should have had one .

Not convinced I want to be associated withanything as cheesy sounding as a supero. Yes I really am that fickle. Marksman is tolerable but Supero sounds lke some minor villain from a cult Japanese TV cartoon show.

They still come up as hardly used on ebay occasionally Skip, I would have thought you would be fine with your 11' Specialist for your general barbelling though.

The Specimen is a real seat of your pants, butt creaking fish stopper if you push it hard enough yet still a delight to catch smaller stuff with, the 14-14 barbel I recently took with mine was practically bullied into turning until I realised it was bigger than I had originally thought and I then eased off a bit and took a bit more time with it once I had turned it away from what was a very large snag to put it mildly.

Low doubles are usually just bounced on the blank right under the tip without being allowed on that final run as soon as they see the net.

I've also taken a fair number of river pike and zander with it.
