M40 west this morning down to Wallingford, Oxon. On the bank of the Thames at 8am and the draw where I drew 10... 9 anglers went off before me and fishable pegs were at a premium. Luckily I didn't have to walk too far and dropped on a high bank peg and set up my box on a precarious edge.

Overcast and cool with virtually no wind, conditions were perfect...
At the off I balled it with a kilo of dark roach GB about 25 yards out in the flow, my waggler set at 12' deep on my 15' Tri-cast float rod. Nice roach first chuck on double caster on an 18.

Bites very constant for the first 2 hours with chub, dace, perch and roach, not to mention too many bleak. I set my 3AA waggler with 2 no6 shot, then a bulk of BB's and droppers but it just didn't sink quickly enough to avoid the little buggers.
Went a bit quiet between midday and 2pm so I balled it again with another kilo which seemed to Kickstart the peg until the end at 4pm. By now the sun was out and it was hot, not ideal for packing up, weighing in and returning fish safely..

Weighed in 6lb12 but I'm not sure what all the weights were but 11lb was winning it when I packed the car to leave.

Been a while since i posted in here, but I did something a little different today so thought I'd share it. My mate borrowed a 5 man rib and we went off for a day on the Thames at Lechlade fishing.

Much fun was had, nothing massive was caught but we had a few species and it was really nice to be able to get to all the spots you would normally struggle to get to.

We caught roach, rudd, bleak, dace and chub and....... A coconut. OK we didn't catch it with a rod but did find one floating down the river ?

After we left we had a pint and he went home, I decided to use the last few hours to pop to a stillwater nearby to use the rest of the maggots up. Had a lovely pair of tench, no Scales but I'd guesstimate the first at 5lb or so and the second at 3lb. I also caught and landed a signal Cray on the method feeder ? which I promptly dispatched.

All in all its been a great days fishing.

I don't have many pictures as I'm a bit rubbish but here's the ones I do have.

I got up nice and early today and cycled down to the Great Ouse for a few hours of peace and quiet.....

Don't know whether it's me and this PC - or another example of the FM user-unfriendly image handler - but the only 1 of your piccies that displayed was the roach - all the rest came up with a 'No-entry' sign!:eek:mg:

Could be a problem with compatibility with the Google user-content addressing?

If it's any help, they all display just fine for me on both Windows PC and Android tablet/phone.

Due to the hot weather I made an early start and was on the river by just after 9am. I settled into a swim by the gin clear water (with very little flow) with about a 30’ trotting channel between the ribbon weed and the cabbages. With wall to wall sunshine to add I wasn’t expecting any monsters – just a relaxing few hours. In between the fishing I watched the occasional swan flit by.

I had a few slices of bread as bait, used in conjunction with the Drennan flake punch again. Although I would have obviously preferred a bit of flow and some colour to the water the bonus was watching the roach dive out the weeds to take the flake in 5’-6’ of clear water.

I fished until 12.30pm for about 20 swingers and a dozen netters – one surprise was the 2 perch taken on (slowly) trotted flake, I’ve taken the odd one before but never two in a session. Another enjoyable session and I now know the topography for quite some distance for when the rains arrive and the colour appears.............

That's almost as many swans as can be found on the Thames at Windsor...I suppose you can be thankful they didn't decide to land on your bank !!

Looks a very nice spot, though..

Misty start on the reservoir this morning, what little breeze their was swinging all over the place and not much fish activity.Plenty of canadas & grey lags making a lot of noise. Only had one real bite which was from a 4lb 9oz bream. Campers, sorry carpers, further up the same bank really put some effort into their fishing emerging from the green mushrooms between 10 & 1030. Going back tomorrow early on for more enjoyment.

As planned I had my session on the river from late afternoon until dusk tonight, the catch was good but I had to go to plan B to do it.

It felt sweltering hot when I arrived with the bare bones of gear around late afternoon, especially with the glare bouncing off the water and two hours running an Avon through and feeding sensibly every trot produced one chub of around 3lbs and a handful of half bites.

I say feeding sensibly as I was waiting for it to spark so that I could really pile in the feed but it just never happened.

Not to be outdone I did the exact opposite of what I thought would catch and wedged the butt end of the rod between some rocks and let the float settle in slack water down the inside, this peg has form for this despite the obvious approach of getting out where there was some flow…

Low and behold barely a couple of minutes had elapsed before the ratchet on the ‘pin was screaming as a whisker made it to mid-river!

Work that one out if you can, a low and clear river and you’ve come in off a line you’ve been feeding for two hours with very little to show for it and into an area you would least expect to find a fish but there they were…

I revisited the original line several times into the evening to see if anything had settled there but it was that slack inside line that produced every time…

Even a few of the larger, pigeon breasted fellas showed up too…

It never turned into the pile it in session I had anticipated but I managed eleven barbel and two chub which I was more than happy with.

Packing up in the dark always has its hazards and it was only when I stopped for a four pack on the way home that I realised I still had my waders on but even more worryingly there was no sign of my trainers in the car

That will be a nice random find for someone tomorrow in the middle of a field somewhere, I hope I left ‘em neatly side by side!

Mind you, as Crow will testify, they might just make their own way home and in through the cat flap during the night :D

There’s nothing like a summer sunset on the river to round off a nice evening…

The river was dropping off nicely so I decided to pop over for a few hours swimming the stream. I'd recently got a new hamster wheel and was keen to christen it :D. When I arrived at the river it looked good and I was hopefull of a decent session, unfortunately it wasn't quite as productive a session as i'd hoped.
The reel was a pleasure to use and proved to be great for casting. It has a 4 3/4 inch drum and a high line lay so made for a fast retrieval. I did manage several chub up to about 4lb, some clonking dace, a nice brown trout of about 2lb and one lonesome barbel. I hooked another couple of barbel, one that felt to be lip hooked but the small hook pulled out due to having to hit and hold. The other one may have been foul hooked as I pulled it to the surface before the hook pulled free, not something that happens very often with a lip hooked barbel.

If you have left them on the bank I think that you should contact the EA and report them as a bio hazard, signs need to be erected warning the dog walkers and other anglers of their presence :)

Hmm, that's strange, not really sure how to fix it if it's working for some people and not others!
