It seems a day that up and down the country has provided some pleasant weather and a few nice fish. Will the cold snap spoil or improve things?

There's certainly plenty of us been out today :)

Yes it's forecast to turn cold, it might switch the river pike on but until we get some new water coming through I'm heading for the deeper parts of stillwaters where there's probably a bit of warmer water still hanging around.

Back on familiar territory this evening and tried a banker swim with mash and flake to absolutely zero interest. I know it's getting colder tomorrow but some rain too please.

Lovely perch John, I've got my eye on that float too :)

Looks suspiciously like an Ian Lewis to me...

You are right:)

It's because your scales are 2lbs under, it's actually a monster :D

HA HA! It shows the adjustment re the weigh sling before weighing. Wish it was 2lb heavier:D

I had a lovely day Yesterday punch fishing, fish ranged from 1/2oz to 1oz
approximately no fish on any size but very enjoyable. Fished an .06 line, a 23s WN 401 to a 3 elastic.
My clicker showed 291 all roach. All very small but good fun, not every ones idea of sport. I think they are missing out.

OK ,Open today was scheduled for New pool, but due to being covered in leaves,it was switched to Canal and Top Pools..ive drew peg 22 on top,i hate this area and never done well here, and it didnt help with 20 and 23 being in which made it really tight:(theres no shallow water to work with,no island ,just open water same depth 4ft 6 ins all over...Ive started on pellet short, then maggot,at 6m,still nothing, looking around, nothing was being caught:eek:
..in the end ive fished 13m,with maggot and put a few fish together,a few F1,s,barbel,skimmers,ide,roach,and perch, for a net busting 22-3-0:(:(.....Thankfully this was good enough for a section win,as the winner, came from flyer peg 31 in my section, with 31-0-0,2nd was 26-8-0,3rd was 23-0-0.....Canal didnt fish much better 38lb,37lb,and 36lb taking the top 3 places....Afterwards i thought,if id of fished exclusively for silvers,i probably could of won the pool, but your always thinking the F1,s will show.....No fishing till next monday and tuesday now:(tight lines,Gazza

A frosty start at Naseby Reservoir this morning but brilliant sunshine, got hot with all the layers on trudging along the dam wall to do some pike fishing - that was the plan,as it turned out the pike also had a day off but watching a kestrel hovering above the dam,six buzzards suddenly appearing,a red kite circling the far corner and large flock of lapwings flying over made up for yet another blank.Think rain is needed to freshen up the water & flush the weed out of the rivers so I can get chub fishing for a change.

Spent another couple of hours on the Canterbury Stour, the serious lack of fish has even got the pike going vegetarian, this cheeky little jack took a fancy to my cheesepaste.

A passer by said a lot of chub have recently been removed ending up on the dinner table, I do hope he's wrong.:eek:mg:

Just about managed half a dozen fish today , bream to 4lb and a 7lb common. It was cold and wet. The wind was really cold and it brought it home to me the inadequacy of my brolly and my baseball cap: my ears, particularly the right being in the wind, were frozen. I arrived at 930 am to find 6 other fools already there ! By 1 .30 I was on my own!

So I have bought a better hat which will keep my ears warm, a snood for my neck and a new brolly. I plan to get out in all weathers over the next few months! I must be mad!;)

Met up with one of my fishing mates for a days piking on local water. He was on live bait and stuck to it all day I just took my lure rods and fished lures all day. This water is known to produce well on live bait. At the end of the day he hadn’t had a touch I had 7 pike to 8lbs.
I assume it might have been that the lures I was using were bigger than his baits and the fish fancied more than a snack. I was using 8” lures and a couple of my pike weighed less than a pound.

mikench.....Not a bad days fishing, considering the conditions.....

I also fish in all weathers and without doubt you can enjoy and concentrate on your fishing so much more if you are dressed for it, so a good move with the snood and hat! I reckon a snood is an absolute must if your are to feel at all comfortable.

Some off my best days have been in near freezing conditions so I hope it also works out for you.................

Drove 45 miles at the crack of dawn to River Till/Fossdyke both crystal clear. Having had bad days before on these when clear I set off back home and called in at Hallcroft, Retford. Hard going and very cold but I put a small bag together of Roach, skimmers, small perch and a nice 2lb+ perch. Had a few "big takes" but lost them all.

Once again it's time to go after the grayling! Parts of the Dorset Frome opened up to us coarse anglers on the 1st November. Fortunately it's pretty much on my doorstep so I've had two short sessions - not sure what happened on the opening day but I didn't fish it!

But I've taken full advantage yesterday and today with a couple of short sessions and have enjoyed a spectacular start.

I found a few on Wednesday by moving around and trying several swims, usually picking up 2 or 3 nice fish around 1lb+ from each spot. I then had a much better fish but after rummaging in my bag I realised my scales were hung up in the shed at home. I did find a tape measure so I could at least do a bit of educated guess work when I got home.

That fish was around 40cms and then another was 42cms which would indicate they were probably in the low to mid 2's.

Then, as I was thinking about packing up, I had a third bigger fish. That turned out to be a conservative 48cms and maybe around 2:10/2:12. An excellent start but a little frustrating.

Today I just had time for a couple of hours this afternoon. This time I concentrated on a different area just upstream from yesterdays efforts, I made sure my scales were in the bag!

First fish was a thumping great sea trout of around 7lbs which obliged by swimming into the landing net at the first attempt. That prompted me to move down a couple of swims as the spotted tourist had cavorted around the swim crashing out a few times.

Almost straight away I had a grayling that was clearly bigger than those from yesterday. Grayling fight in a certain way that is not for the faint hearted and I could feel and see every gyration as I tried to bring it to net. But it finally slid over the rim and was indeed a big fish.

At 3lbs 07oz it is my new best having beaten the 3:05 I had from the Itchen 9 years ago. And just for the hell of it, I measured it at 54cms :)

Opportunist session on Gt ouse fishing whip and punch at 4m. Bite first cast and didn't look back. Dunno if I'm just lucking out up here. I don't know the water at all really but have tried a few spots now and the place seems alive with silvers. Small stuff to be fair and not everyone's cup of tea. My landing net didn't get wet today but I had a load a fun and caught the kind of bag to make many a matchman happy.
With 7feet of water I added a very generous handful of hemp to concentrate things low down as poss. Mainly dace and roach with a few chublets around 1-2oz average for first hour. Not a put in without a bite in all that time.
Caster had gone in too over a patch that was couple of metres downstream and flat and clear according to the plummet. A few better dace came from here and micro-perch but they wanted to be a little further out and I went back to bread after 30 mins or so. Bites began to take longer developing and had me fiddling with shotting a lot for a while. Best switch I made was using bigger punch which brought bigger fish. Still not many over 4ozs but more and more of them roach. I put a few pinches of top up feed every few casts and gradually as the light dwindled the roach dominated everything until the bleak attacked. They were very active all across the river and much leaping and swirling occured from time to time. Maybe a giant Ouse perch lurks?
