Hadn't been out for a couple of weeks & clearly must have had that 'Cabin Fever' look about me as I was allowed out on Sunday whilst wifey did some baking. Having made the school boy error of looking at BBC weather & seeing only a very light breeze I booked a peg at Brookfield Fishery which was looking in great nick - Mike has made a few changes! There is now a bridge across the ditch & the floating island has gone. Although this is a day ticket water, it is also a 'natural' one, so not fish a chuck, on which basis I put a feeder out as well as the usual waggler. Spam on the former double maggot on the latter which attracted a fair few silverlings but nothing to put a bend in the rod. Not a peep on the feeder so I reeled in & changed to twin caster - 5 minutes later the baitrunner sprang into life & I struck but didn't feel the resistance that the take had suggested? Anyway, a mint Crucian of around 1lb came fairly tamely to the net - not huge, but my best to-date & always a species to raise a smile as it was the first I ever caught. Feeder then went quiet for a couple of hours - a switch to corn eventually resulted in a smallish roach but that was it. In the meantime sporadic but regular gusts coming straight at me made the waggler more tricky, so I went for a heavier crystal & switched to spam which resulted in a small but perfectly formed mirror of about 3lb as well as a few skimmer & roach - things were definitely getting busier. Then my phone went & just as I answered the float dipped & I hit into something bigger - clearly my multi-tasking abilities have room for improvement as the hook slipped & my float et al flew back over my head & lodged firmly in a tree. That kind of made the decision to call it a day, well that coupled with the phone call - the monitoring company telling me that the alarm at work had gone off! :wh

"blanked but did catch 5 perch to 2.7 and 4 pike to 18lb"

Wish I had blanks like that! *
Was that on your bream kit? I don't really think it counts as a blank if carefully-laid plans B and C pay off.

Edit: What am I saying? I wish I had good days like that!!

I did catch the lot on 0.75lb TC rod - I lip hooked tiny roach on a size 8 ...... Cracking scrap off the 18lb'er - took me an age to get it in the net.

I got to fish for one whole hour today.

Stickfloat & maggots on a backwater.

I caught bleak, small roach and perch (one of the perch being the smallest I've ever seen:doh:).

I lost what looked like a 1/2 pound perch at the net.

At the end of one trot I hooked into something much bigger, and moments later my end tackle was in a tree due to a hook pull.
That signalled it was time to pack up and take my youngest
to her swimming lesson.

Great (if not short lived) fun:)

I managed an early morning raid, caught my first ever tench, and later when my battery died a nice common carp. Had dribs in between..

Fished the Open match at Willows London Colney today.
A chilly start with a light breeze. Set up tip rod and method feeder and chucked it out while I finished setting up.
Set up 3m whip for speed fishing and a match rod and waggler for further out.
Tip went round and a skimmer was on, then off....
Started on the whip and maggot and caught nice roach for a while then the little blades moved in so I changed to the waggler further out.
Fishing caster and feeding small balls of groundbait I started bagging quality roach and some battling roach bream hybrids, some real clonkers too.
Weighed in 17lb 10oz for a win.
2nd had 13:11. 3rd had 13:7..
Good day out and a nice brown envelope to boot.....
Happy days....

Little Wife and her friend went off for the day to Monkey World so I took the opportunity to get off around four hours earlier than usual; 9:30am and had enough stuff for the whole day out.

I went to Aixe-sur-Vienne to fish the river as this is reputed to be a good place for barbel. I'd taken two quiver tip rods and a couple of travel Avon / quiver rods as back ups. I managed to get into a swim that did not entail fishing 6 foot above the river on a wall and started off with a 3/8oz bomb and single grain of sweetcorn a couple of rod lengths out in about 3' of water. Got bites from the start and brought in small roach. Put some bait in, a mixture of seeds in breadcrumbs with a few micro pellets thrown in. The roach continued to come to hand followed by a bream of around 2lb. Another angler set up just downstream of me. Too close for my liking and as he was skylining my swim I banged some more bait out on the four rod lengths line. The roach continued to nail the sweetcorn, but I couldn't get a bite on pellets or boilies.

Eventually I got a barbel. All 1lb of it  Smallest I've ever caught. That coincided with a visit from another angler who was fishing the other bank and drove around for a chat. He was German but had lived in France for many years and was in the area on a fishing holiday. Turns out he had caught hundreds of barbel including a one day catch of 200+ but had never caught one over 4lb  He dreamed of catching a 6lb barbel! Now, I don't know what he's doing wrong but until today I haven't caught one under 4lb :) I can't explain it.

Around 4:30 I decided that I'd had enough of catching small roach on the 1.5lb tc rod and as nothing was bothering the larger baits I packed up and went on a reccying exercise.

Best bit was when I got home and found out that Monkey World was closed when they got there. So they are going off again on Sunday giving me another full day to play out :D

Lovely fish Steve as per usual. Glad that I am not the only one who loves running water. Hoping to go after the Roach again tomorrow to see if I can get some that are a little bigger:D

Had an eventful day yesterday trotting a stick and catching a lot of the usual suspects, plus a couple of spotted roach. Today had a session on a local gravel pit with an old friend (first time I've fished a still for a while) for eight carp, up in the water on the drop - no 'bigguns' on the day but mid doubles with a couple pushing twenty....

A nice steady day just about sums it up for me I reckon, a big perch still at the forefront of my mind but once again it wasn’t to be.

I visited an ex-club water as planned, I say "ex" as I can’t justify the year book now that I spend so much time on the river but I always make a point of getting a few day ticket sessions in as I really like fishing this place not least because it’s on my doorstep but also because it’s relatively un-tampered with and a nice, tranquil place to chuck a float around.

I usually get a good bag of fish on here and the conditions seemed right but despite really working at the feeding and the rigs it was quite hard going… I still managed a couple of dozen fish which were mainly small perch along with a couple of small roach, a rudd and a few netter skimmers.

Nothing out of the ordinary really so I’ll leave it for now at it’s most memorable point when the day was still fresh and hopes were high, at the moment shortly after the worm was taken and the float slid away for the first time as the early morning mist was still rolling off the water and where, for a few brief seconds, I thought it might just be…

Back to the old drawing board! :D

11 small Roach caught on a home made Goose Quill float in somewhat low and clear conditions. Changed to quiver tip for the last couple of hours with a change of bait, but despite some bites I did not add to my total. Called it a day when the bats kept banging into the line and getting my hopes up! Thoroughly enjoyable and had a nice chat with some other club members. A pleasant way to spend an afternoon and early evening. Good luck to all those out this weekend.

After a couple of weeks away from my favoured commercial (bloody holiday, taking up valuable fishing time!) I managed to get down there this morning. Awake well before 7 on a Saturday, what else should I do?!
Fished the waggler at approx 2-2 1/2 feet with corn on the hook, but of groundbait and some pellet for loose feed.
Had a good hour with a fish per chuck ( F1's and Mirror to 4 1/2lb) then lost my hook to a tree (tw*t) and didn't cstch anything else. Packed up at lunch.

Hopefully make it out somewhere tomorrow!

Fished the World rivers day Tidefest on the tidal Thames below Kew bridge West London today. Up at 5am and on the way down the M4 at 6.
Drew at 7am. I was pegged a few hundred yards down from Kew bridge.
Around 8 we could see the gravel and climbed down. After the calamity with my platform in my last match there, I took a 6ft beach tripod and stood up in my waders.
First chuck on the cage feeder brown crumb and maggot my tip juddered and I landed a 3" Bass, small but perfectly formed. Later I had 2 skimmers and a nice 6oz dace.
That was it till 1oclock. Stayed on the tip right through, as did most others although a few waded and trotted stickfloat but struggled.
As usual we all ended up 40 yards further down the gravel from where we started as the tide flowed out. Being a river festival there were many other activities, loads of kids in kayaks and canoes, didn't affect the fishing at all...:wh
I weighed in a paltry 3lb:8:8. for nowhere.
Winner had bream and dace for 34lb. and a trophy and a cheque for £500.
2nd had 28lb. Can't remember the other weights but some good follow ups.
It was good to see fellow FM'er, Will Barnard fishing too. Poor bloke worked hard on the stick float and had some nice dace but sadly suffered a calamity when he stumbled and knocked his net over, all his fish escaped..

Martin Salter arranged and ran an excellent match, top bloke too...
27 fished....

Fished an entirely new area of the Vienne this afternoon at Availles-Limouzine. It is about 80km downstream of where I fished the other day and has good access to the banks which makes it a popular match fishing venue. According to some anglers it is also a good spot for barbel and large chub.

I drove along the river for over 400 metres looking for some feature or signs of fish to no avail. So I parked up and walked back the whole length and back again and the best I could find was an overhanging tree and a 2 mtetre wide raft of floating weed. So that is where I ended up plumbing the depth - 3 metres at a rod length and slightly more across to around 30 metres which is about a third of the way across. There was a strong flow aided by a wind blowing straight downstream and the water was as clear as the sky :(

Started with a feeder about 30 metres out. Four casts to get some bait in then tried sweetcorn, maize, worm and eventually pellet without as much as a knock. Also was baiting a line just the other side of the floating weeds and spent another couple of bite-less hours fishing there. When you don't get bites on worm and sweetcorn there is something definitely wrong. Just wasn't going to happen.

The good news was that my experimental furled leader kept casting tangles to zero for the second successive session.

Had a few hours on the local river on the feeder the other day.
Was supprised by this fella after catching silvers all day long

Then went to one of my local carp lakes again this weekend.
Nothing special for me this trip, although I did have this nice tench at half 11 last night, which is the first one that's been out for around 5 years which is nice.
