How did you locate them , I know two places on my local canal where there are carp because i regularly see them , cycling or walking the dogs.
Like I said in the post you quoted, I went to swims that had historical form for holding carp and though one never offered anywhere near as much cover as it used to, it still offered reasonable cover.
If you're trying to find canal carp on an unknown stretch, where I'd head to are areas that get well trodden by humans, be that dog walkers, cyclists, boat dwelling residents - whatever, these areas offer a certain degree of sanctuary from predators.
So obviously that means marinas are tops, but other likely areas are large clumps of trees and bushes. Boats moored bow to bow are another good feature especially in slightly deeper water with concrete or shuttered banks, simply place your bait next to the wall (bank) as the carp often live between the wall and the boat.
Once you've found a possible swim and there aren't hoards of ducks etc, just throw a load of floating pellets over the carp's heads, literally where you think they might be laid up, not where you want to fish for them.
Then wait, if its a warm afternoon, normally they don't take long to show themselves, whist waiting I check out other nearby spots of interest.
Tee-Cee, if you want to fish the Ox canal for roach, as a general rule just head for busy areas (same as for carp), roach seem to be making a real resurgence at the moment, the common theory being that when the BW removed most of the carp about 15yrs ago, it left a biomass void that chub, bream and roach seem to have filled??
If you want anymore details, send me a PM.
"I thought a good old fashion 'brollie' would do the trick as you're 'going back' to an old haunt !"
Nah, if I can't fit my bedchair under it without risking getting wet feet and/or a wet head, it ain't going to happen!!
