Back on the reservoir this morning - 3C so the car told me lovely in the bright sunshine:same rigs as the last time and managed to get a skimmer of about 1lb and roach on floatfished corn - no tench . . .again . . . .
Saw my first red admiral flutter by - the most beautiful of all the butterflies, plenty of tiny spiders on the rods, seat, holdall - everywhere - have to get the vacuum on the car soon to evict them all.

I got to he pool at 3pm and fished into the wind, not a strong wind but a nippy one. I float fished for a spell and had a few small rudd and then decided to do a Stuart (mudlarker) and touch leger for a change. Here's me set up...

Can you make out what it is?

Anyhow after a few more unwanted tiddly rudd I had a propper pull and hooked the target species, a tench, 4lb of power....

Well spotted MD, I used the bottom weight off a drennan self cocker float as I had a float adapter already on my line. It worked well though and was just the right amount of weight to fish a shallow part of a still water where I wasn't casting much further than 30yds.
I don't blame you for glueing 'em into place as I once had the float fly off. I sometimes swap the weights around though so I need more or less shot on the line so just leave them pushed in.

I've touch legered before but never for tench. It was Stuart who put it in my head recently and I had to give it a go and it worked a treat! It worked ok for little rudd n'all lol.

Rob can't see my pic's and we can't weigh up why, has anyone else got a problem seeing them?

Try as I might, I cannot quite make it out either.............I can only think it is a 'fledger' of some sort, so the thing sits on the bottom vertically with line running through the top of the 'float'...................Could be totally wrong, though

Any chance of another pic, tigger??

Thanks

ps Dodgy eyes don't help!

I can see them just fine on a tablet PC running Windows 10 and the Edge browser. I can also see them using an Android tablet with Firefox as the browser.

Just took a pic for you TC.....

All it is is a float adaptor and the push in/pull out weight off a drennan float with the float pulled off. I had a drennan float/leger stop either end of it as i'd been using a piece of peacock quill shoved into the float adaptor otherwise I would most likely have just nipped on a small shot for the adaptor to rest on and determine the length of my line between the weight and my hook. I think the weight was 4.5gram. I liked the fact that the weight would obviously hit bottom first and the float adaptor would be stood up proud of the bottom so the line was able to run through the adapter swivel without being in the silt etc. You could make a longer adapter for deeper silted waters rather than use a loop of line. As I said very simple but it worked great and i'm sure i'll use the set up again in future :).
Just noticed in the pic...the weight would push into the adapter the other way around.

Rob, it seems the rest of the board members can see the pic's ok so it might be something needs tweaking on your computer bud ;).

This account of todays trip is going to be a bit of a confessional.....

Feeling a bit lazy after a week of 5 am starts, I rocked up at the club lakes at about 10:00.
Although I was looking forward to a days fishing I couldn't really be bothered to make much effort.

On my arrival I spied a couple of guys I knew fishing the 'match' lake.

This is where it all started to go wrong. I knew exactly what would happen yet ploughed ahead regardless. The match lake, or Silvers lake is basically the only lake on the complex that is almost totally devoid of Carp. It is however absolutely rammed with.....

.....yes, you've guessed it - skimmers and Bream. You could almost say it's full to the Brim (see what I did there?).

Started off with one of the new Preston Interchange Banjo feeders, stuffed with pellets and a smidge of groundbait. Hookbait was an 8mm Chocolate Orange boilie.

The fishing went like this:

Brim
Brim
Brim
Roach
Brim
Brim
Roach
Perch
Brim Brim Brim Brim Brim Brim Brim Brim Brim Brim etc etc etc.

A major frap up resulting in losing about 20m of line was a welcome distraction.

Switched to the waggler rod for the second half.

Brim, Brim, Brim, Roach, Brim Brim Brim Brim.....you get the idea.

Catching fish that barely have the energy to pull a 2BB float tip under and then just lay on the surface waiting to be towed across the lake's surface to a waiting net is just not fun.

The biggest Brim of the day got knocked off the hook just before going into the landing net. Instead of swimming off like any normal self respecting fish it just lay there in the classic 'couldn't give a sh1t' Brim style.

Anyway, at least the bankside banter was first class.

Apologies to those of you who may find the repeated mention of Brim to be offensive.

My dislike of your experience is akin to a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, infact I'll go further declaring a choice of the latter.

One of the treasured benefits of retirement is being able to fish when you please and not be beholden to weekends when the waters can get so busy.

The forecasters seemed in unison in the fact that today was going to be very warm and sunny but with a cold front arriving tonight putting temperatures back in their place for the week ahead. So with that in mind I thought I'd bite the bullet and spend a few hours this morning on my new estate lake.

I arrived at dawn thinking I'd need to bag a good swim but it wasn't necessary, I was the only person fishing with the lake to myself:) maybe the elite membership knew something I didn't as all I could catch were bream, the tench were bubbling just to add to the tease.

Pleased to say they finally muscled out the bream and gave me some good sport netting four in the last couple of hours before packing up for lunch the biggest going 4.4lb

Early doors still quite chilly

A big, fat blank for me this weekend and the single common denominator of a sharp frost that saw the last but one session on the same water ending the same way.

If you had turned up at eight o’clock you would have said it was perfect, right on the end of the wind with the water starting to colour up nicely with recent algal blooms but it was white over only a couple of hours earlier although I would have bet my bottom dollar that they would come on during the afternoon.

I started out on the groundbait/chopped worm/maggot feeder and alternated between hookbaits, after five hours without a single sniff I decided the session was either going to end this way or I could ball in on the inside line a couple of rod lengths out and fish a straight lead over the top, gambling that it might just stop a shoal of something in its tracks and encourage them to get their heads down.

It didn’t.

A biteless blank it was and in blissful conditions too, I’m going to have to get out again very shortly to correct the situation and I fancy the ever reliable silvers to do it.

The biggest surprise of the day (or is that shock?) was having my licence checked by an EA bailiff.

My mate had a blank too even though he was fishing two rods to my one and the usual rule applied which meant that he ended up doing twice as bad as me… :w

Fished a local council pool from about 9.00 until 2.30, the carp lads who fished overnight had had a couple of doubles but little else seemed bothered about providing any sport. Finished with eleven rudd to about half a pound only three worthy of wetting the landing net. Most enjoyable parts of the session were the antics of the local bird population, the swans are chasing off all bar the coots and the grebes, showing an intense hatred of the pair of Canada geese that seem to be spending most of their time on the bank. I had the grebes along with their two chicks in my swim for most of the day and it was a real pleasure
just watching the male diving for food while the female ferried her two offspring around. It ain't just about the catching:)

Frost, thick fog and -1C on the banks of the reservoir on Saturday morning around 6am.
Hauled the kit up the bank to one of the swims I have been baiting with hemp & sweetcorn - managed to get four skimmers and half a dozen roach on float fished corn with the wind swinging from a keen northerly to south westerly by 10am.
Plenty of wildlife around -swallows,grebes,noisy grey lags and canadas 3 too many cormorants, bullfinches and the smaller birds. When I left it was 17C.Still no tench . . . . .
