did you use bait on a hook?

I have a small 6ft 6" ugli stick rod and a 2000 size salt water reel so might just try to emulate your fun when I am next at the seaside!!

Nice way to brighten a miserable bank holiday Monday, not the norm on HDYGO, very enjoyable video Neil.

Mike - I used Isome (artificial worm) on a split shot rig (size16 hook, couple of BBs) and an ultra sensitive rod.

Trotter - size1000, lovely little reel

S63 - thanks mate :)

Hello from Finland to everyone, it has been a while...

Almost getting convulsions here... It has been pretty cold this spring, and the ice are yet to melt. I have had to settle for changing lines to my reels, organizing my lure boxes, re-writing my blogs and obsessionally browsing through old fishing photos. Also trying to think where should I go fishing when possible.

Fishing fever is a horrible sickness, and it certainly doesn't make it any easier looking at photos here of you people going fishing. ;)

It's pretty cold here at the moment too but at least there is neither frost nor snow and it can only improve!

I spent this morning looking for tench, and blanking, on one of my club's gravel pits.
It's a bit of an odd place. Looks like it was popular once, but its now very neglected and overgrown and rarely sees an angler.
It's believed by many to be almost completely devoid of fish, and I'm starting to agree...
It's also crystal clear and only 3 feet deep, so I'm sure any fish in there can see me coming from a mile off and hide.
The only sign of a life today was when a pike took a liking to my fish/depth finder. Ironically when I have tried to pike fish there I've always blanked :eek:mg:

My club pit was hard today as well, nothing like my last visit when I bagged up with roach and skimmers on the shallow rig. Same peg same rig same bait not a touch? I the meantime I'd fed a line at 11m with some GB and micros which was fizzing away nicely. At 13' deep I had to use a top 4 rig to fish dead depth but this line also proved lifeless.

After 4 biteless hours I changed bait from single maggot to a tiny redworm and after a few minutes I got a very tentative bite which I lifted into and it went solid. A nice bream put up a spirited account of itself before it hit the landing net.

No scales with me but I reckoned it 5lb at least, blank saved phew....

Never thought I'd be 'liking' a post with a bream picture in it Peter :)

I fished a small pond about a hundred metres from our holiday caravan which had been cleared of thick reeds a couple of months ago but I wish they had done a better job as the whole pond is now covered with fresh reed stems sticking out of the water everywhere; even where they never grew before.

I sat and caught some nice roach up to around 8 to 10 inches long and a couple of tiny stunted Carp plus quite a few snotties up to around 1.5lb but I just wasn't enjoying myself fishing amongst all of the reed stems sticking up everywhere.

I'll be fishing at my local estate lake during the week and that will be a lot more inviting, especially if I catch a few of the new Crucians that we have recently stocked into it, or a couple of tench :)

Had a couple of carp today on my syndi. reservoir. This was the biggest at 17lb 6ozs. Used my 4 piece travel rods.
Biting cold northerly wind and no sign of tincas at all. Plenty of rudd about though and some small ones so they must have bred OK last year.

If there's one thing Rudd do well that's breed and if there's one thing Tench don't do well it's biting northerly. That's my profound qoute of the week out the way :D

Nice common looks like that will grow to be a right lump

You know, the funny thing with pike is just that. I've been dead bait fishing many times, when the actual bait has gotten no bites, but the pike have tried to furiously catch the float! Okay, you are free to try a surface lure then, but guess what. They are not interested.
