Beautiful chub Neil.

And runner, the colours of rock/kelp living Pollack is stunning...

I went yesterday(wish I hadn't really),I got talked into fishing a club match on a lake I'd never fished before and boy did it show,I had two commons for over six pounds, but lost at least five coming off the hook, the water is barely two feet deep and the fish are wildies, long thin fighting machines, after the match I went to the crucian lake and blanked, that's fishing I suppose...

Fished Coppice again
Fished the silvers pool in the AM on the pole - lots of lovely roach
moved to where the big girls are in the afternoon
started off with 3 decent carp up to ten then I think I overfed the swim ( in my excitement ) saw lots of fish bubbling but really could not get a bite

What do you reckon ? Over feeding ?

I worked today and about four pm I took myself off to a nice club lake near Bough Beech in Kent. I travelled light with the intention of floater fishing for carp. I plonked my gear down in a swim that I have sighted surface feeding carp in previously. I took a walk around the lake to see if there was a better looking spot but there wasn’t.

I set up a 2.5lb tc Free Spirit rod with 10lb bs line and 8.9lb Preston Reflo hooklength to a size 4 Drennan super Specialist. I tried one of those Korda in line controllers for the first time and was impressed. They lay flat against the surface and are pretty easy to see. Bait was simple floating crust.

There were a few carp cruising about but didn’t seem keen to be feeding. I had a few nudge the bait, then the bait was taken confidently by a decent carp that weighed in at 16lb 9oz and put up a fair old scrap. Next fish was a roach that took a lump of crust about the size of a blo0dy matchbox. I didn’t weigh it but it was over 1lb 8oz and finally another low double carp. The sky darkened and it started to rain, which was my cue to pack up and drop in to the local pub for a pint of Harvey’s bitter on the way home. I don’t usually do short trips but this was a good way to spend a couple of hours.

Probably, maybe a big lump of flake or meat would have got them focused, sometimes though nothing works like you think it should.

After working 12 days straight at work i was desperate to get out onto the bank for some relaxation. A friday night after work session was in order so I grabbed a tin of hemp, tin of corn and some leftover 4mm pellets and headed for a local pond in search of a tinca or two. I arrived by 6.15 so had about 3 hours daylight to play with. I mixed half the hemp with the same amount of corn and also added some 4mm pellets. I Chucked a few handfuls in at the edge of the lily pads and then set the float rod up with the intention of fishing double corn. I went with a bigger hook than normal to try and avoid the smaller fish. I added a quickstop hair to a Guru QM 1 size 12, two pieces of corn and i was off. Took a while to get going but within 20 mins there was lots of activity in the swim and plenty of bubbles. I ended up with 3 tench, numerous smaller carp, a bigger rogue common (4lb) and also some nice roach. A really nice simple and cheap evening session topped off by the gorgeous sunset i was treated to as i packed up. Another 6 day working week has begun so this coming sunday provides the next available slot for trip out.

Some Bass being reported and a few mackerel but as I have just paid for a full licence decided a spot of coarse fishing was in order. So along the canal with a loaf of bread, a home made swan quill and two shot with a ten hook. This stretch looks like it should have loads of fish but only two roach caught, one hlf decent. Very shallow but found a deep spot around a culvert but still not much; £30 for two roach! However, a lovely place, no bikes, no boats, no anglers and very few walkers but those that stopped for a chat were very pleasant and my reel never fell off once which was a bit of a novelty for me but hooked the vegetation enough times to make up for it.. Bit hot for me though and should be fished in the evening, might be a better idea.
Kestrel, Goldfinches, a pair of waders of some sort and maybe a Marsh Harrier in the distance. A pair of something odd in a tree on the way home so I stopped and dug out my binos knowing full well they would fly off just as I got them out of the case and they did. Still, all made a very pleasant few hours, a nice tench would have made it perfect.

Fished the estate lake from 5-30am til 2pm. Had the place to myself for a few hours before Ralph arrived with his brother making a guest appearance.

A cool start with the car showing just 8 celsius on arrival but that didn’t deter a nice plump 4lb male tench on the first cast of the misty morning, I had high hopes for the next few hours but as far as tench were concerned, that was it for the day. All was not lost though as a nice variety of fish gradually graced my net, some quality roach, two nice cru’s, rudd, perch, skimmers and the obligatory bream. Managed to get broken up twice by carp, a good time to call it a day.

No photos, forgot my phone :eek:mg: but I guess you’ve all seen enough of the estate by now.

Went for very quick session following my last night shift at 08:30.
Decided to head to the small urban pond in the wood.
Float fishing, alternating between bread and sweetcorn on the hook.
A couple of minutes in and I had a chunky skimmer to bread flake.

Was getting lots of finicky bites and ended up with a couple of nice looking roach before tiredness got the better of me.

As I was packing up, another angler showed up and pulled out a cracking carp on bread from the margin. Unbelievably he didn't have a landing net, had to use mine to bank it. It felt like a good session would have been on the cards, but I was falling asleep!

Stuck on the chuffin M25 somewhere between Heathro
Me and the BF are off to Wales on Wed for a bash at some sea trout. Thats super intensive so something much gentler today as tomorrow will be a sorting and packing day.

The BF said he was off to our local water after the tench. I didnt fancy that so I barrelled off early doors to Godalming hoping for a decent crucian. Got a decent enough spot....the one the BF blanked on a couple of weeks back....but I'm familiar with it and its been good to me in the past. Bloke next to me was in first with a couple of quick tench, I was getting " rudded out" but eventually a proper bite and a nice roach around the pound mark.

A couple of tench on corn followed before I switched to fake caster as I really felt this ought to work and there were fish showing over my feed. They did work...I had a further 6 tench with the last fish being the biggest at 6lb 7oz. I also managed 2 lovely crucian at 3lb 2oz and 2lb 15oz. The roach and the first 2 tench on corn....everything else on a fake caster.

My neighbour sat biteless while all this was going on but had 2 more tench in consecutive casts just before packing up to give him 4 in all.

Stayed overcast until about 1pm but as soon as the sun got on the water the bites just petered out. Packed early to dodge the worst of the M25 and was home well before tea time. 8 tench and 2 good crucian. I'd have happily taken half of that when I left this morning.

IMG_1207.jpgIMG_1208.jpgIMG_1212.jpg

I am again at a complete loss to work out why it inverts some of my pics. Anyway...thats the biggest crucian and the biggest tench from this morning.

It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks from a fishing angle with many fine trout refusing my fly, so an evening feeder flinging instead of fluff chucking was in order. 4 lb ish bream on the first chuck then nothing, however I did spot this fine damsel fly with her freshly caught supper, something I’ve never seen before despite being aware of what fearsome predators dragon/damselflies are in both larvae and adult form. Also knocked out by how well the phone photo came out!

Had a bit of a disaster Sunday on a big canal match (I went all out for bream and got beaten by big nets of punch roach) so yesterday I went to one of my favourite venues at Bourne end on the GUC in search of some nice roach...

I arrived to find it full of weed and lacking the usual left to right flow due to the little river Bulbourne flowing in by the lock. In the event I was pleased because the water was fairly static and I had to find gaps in the weed to fish in.
As usual I fished a small waggler and simply swung it out to hand. Single red maggot on a 20 b511 to 0:07 bottom.

Started around 9am and couldn’t get through the bleak at first, changed to a slightly heavier float and bulked my shot to get it down faster. That solved the bleak problem but changed it into a small perch problem!
Fed heavily with hemp and tried caster but couldn’t get any improvement.
After a while I caught some roach/bream hybrids up to 8oz, they fight so well it always feels like a big fish until it surfaces..
By lunchtime no roach had shown which was unusual for here, it’s normally all you catch?
I kept feeding hemp and caster and stuck with the single maggot and eventually a couple of roach turned up, one around 10oz.
I was contemplating packing up at 3pm when 2 nice bream turned up.

I was out on the river Friday evening, when, with great care and deliberation, I selected three swims where I thought I might catch a barbel - and sat biteless in each one. On Sunday I had a drive around to check out some locations I hadn't fished before, and decided to try one this morning. I could hardly do worse, but even so my confidence in picking a swim wasn't exactly high.

To put the odds on my side, I got up earlyand got in with them, at least partially.

My tackle was a sort of chub/barbel compromise: Daiwa 11/13, 8lb line with 6lb hooklength and a 14 hook. Lots of hemp and casters was the bait, in a big Black Cap feeder cast about 40m to the edge of the faster water. There were no signs of any barbel, but I wasn't complaining as 11 decent chub turned up between 6.30 and 9.30.

Bite number 12 was plainly a different species, and it took a fair while to get it to the net. But it was one of those mornings when things go your way, and I'd already found that I had the rare luxury of a snag-free swim.

I'll be surprised if I'm lucky enough to turn 12 bites into 12 fish again anytime soon. As if to prove that point, I cast in again, hooked another barbel - bite number 13 - and played it for a minute until the fish came off. It was still only 10.30, but I didn't want to flog it to death, and besides I was ready for a sit-down and a cup of tea, so I called it a day.

I know its not very PC or whatever but b'jesus seeing a keepnet full of big chub like that makes me feel very nostalgic and 'keen'. Although I dont have one to fill up, I would love a keepnet full of chub like that.

Awesome.

Yes,a long time since I've put chub in a keepnet purely because today's keepnets take ages to dry in the winter when I do most of my chubbing.
