Early start today, up at 3 45 loaded car and away by 4 20 am, at the fishery for 4 45, pleased to see I was the first there, always like to see an empty car park, which gives me the pick of swims, made my way to today’s choice, which is always good for carp.

Set up two rods, one barbel rod and pin, and one tip rod with fixed spool, first one for near margins, second one for casting further out, both with a method feeder, short braided hook length with a wafter, soaked 2 mm pellets on feeder, started close in and caught a couple of carp, about six pounds, that swim went quiet after I had another carp come off, so cast further across to were I’d been catapulting a few pellets, first take I thought was a bream, till it was under the rod, and then it woke up, after a good scrap I had my first ghost carp from here, six and a half pounds.

I then alternated between the two swims and continued to catch a few more, but also lost a good few, which just came off during play, finished with seven carp and four bream, and lost at least another seven carp.

This is the biggest, caught on the pin, only nine pounds but fought very well, they do scrap hard here.

In the afternoon around two, there was a thunderstorm not far away, no lightening but lots of thunder and a torrential rain shower, it cleared just before three, so I packed up and went home, back out on Thursday.

Went back to Bedford yesterday, conditions were poor, both wind and the river itself, fished for a couple of hours with not a sniff,so I decided to pack and go to the deep club lake around ten miles away as a mate was on there, got there and found a swim and decided to fish in the margins for tench, well I had three between 2-4lbs and eight reasonable roach between 6-10ozs,I lost a good carp that I'd played out but wrapped round a lone Norfolk feed stem that just would not come loose, would have have thought my 8lb line would have cut through it,but it broke eventually just above my hook, very frustrating as I'd got it out of several dodgy positions earlier in the fight.

While wading about the other week with the fly rod, I was taking my usual route upstream and found that over the winter a deep hollow has scoured and i couldn't get through, complete with a large piece of dead tree.
Looked very Chubby, so returned yesterday evening with a few maggots.
Had a couple like this...

...and dropped one that felt a lot better.
The river is still very low at the moment, and I'm hoping this spot could be very productive with a bit more water.

Stuck on the chuffin M25 somewhere between Heathro
Up at half past silly o'clock yesterday and back down to Godalming for another go at the crucians. The Met Office have clearly borrowed the Skippy App from the Highways Agency as the dry forecast for Godalming I read before hitting the sack had turned into heavy rain when I got up. Bar$tards !

Unbelievably, despite arriving before it was properly light, the car park was full and every swim on the front bank occupied by a green mushroom. That suggested the carp were active and the Godalming Grapevine was working overtime. Fortunately the swim I wanted was on the far side and unnoccupied....that was a good start but not so good was having tacklie up in the rain especially when I am brollyless.

Anyway....clearly I am doing something right as the first fish of the day was a lovely crucian bang on 3lb. I had 2 more smaller ones before a bloody carp gatecrashed ( again) but after a 25 minute fight on my 12oz tc Darent Valley it was landed by the bloke who timed the fight and whose swim I had trashed playing it. Though it wasnt what I went for I was more than happy with the weight....22lb 2oz.

I picked the odd crucian up until about 1030 when it went very quiet for a couple of hours before 3 quick fish between 1 and 2 pm. I was all set to give it best at around 3 before I hooked ( and lost) another very good crucian. That prompted me to stay on and I had another few fish including the best of the day which I was chuffed to bits with at 3lb 12 oz...a new pb.

In total I had 15 crucians ranging from an official food taster of about a pound with the rest between 2-2 and the 3-12 with 5 of them over 3lb. In addition to the 3-12 I had fish of 3-3, 3-4 and 3-7 plus a 2-13. Crucians apart I had 2 tench both around 4lb plus the Gatecrasher.

The lake was incredibly busy. i had blokes fishing barely 10 feet away from me either side....oneof them had had a couple of fish when I left but the bloke to my left ( whose casts were creeping nearer and nearer to my water before words were exchanged) was biteless and I wasnt even remotely upset by that.

The bubble is bound to burst soon but I am on a roll atm and loving it !

I dont know what I've done with the uppyside down pic.its the 3-12 but I'll try and post that again !

Well it seems I did...but uppyside down again ffs. I give up.

How do you follow a post like that? I returned to the venue I visited with Tigger on Monday and returned to the spot I fished in. I did so because I had left a 3' bank stick with a Preston Rod rest attached and naively thought it might still be there. It wasn't so I set up on the other lake armed with the Acolyte and Darent Valley .75 rod.

The fish caught on float and feeder were about even at 20 apiece. I had several of these.

None to compare with Skips but welcome nontheless . I had roach, gudgeon, perch, skimmers, hybrids and a few tiny mirror carp. No tench sadly but there is always another day. My youngest daughter is staying with us and caught an earlier train from Euston. The off peak fare was £70 with a rail card as opposed to a peak ticket of over £300. What a rip off.

I agreed to leave early to pick her up and boy am I glad I did. The heavens opened as I set off for home and it rained solidly for 45 minutes.

Note to self; must do better.

Dropped into Frisby lakes again today, my new regular haunt. 6 lakes to fish so plenty to go at. Of course the one I chose to fish unbeknown to me had a match on the previous evening. Any arrived at 8am weather was ok, very light breeze. Went onto peg 6 which has a nice overhang and weeds to the right. Started off on the right close to the weed on a feeder on krilled luncheon meat. A carp took the bait after 45mins & was landed after a brief but furious fight. Decided to put up another rod on the left, not much doing on the float so switched to a swing tip. Had a nice crucian from this line, pretty sure it was the same one as I caught last week. It’s got a split bottom lip. It must like Robin Red 8mm pellets ! Lost another carp from the right rod after a couple of minutes playing it, just decided to get my landing net and the line went ping!
Really was a slow day hardly any activity, even the regulars who know the water where complaining. Finally had another carp again from the right but this time on an Arsley bomb set up and a mussel meat.
Lost count of the number of dragon flies I saw today. Even saw a chap who looked remarkably like my brother, turned out it was !
Nice summers day out, with a few fish to top it off with.

Quite a crucian day on HDYGO, whatever way you post a photo Skip those Cru’s are amazing.

Would have loved to join the party but chose instead to spend time in John Lewis buying a mattress.:eek:mg:

I had a deja vu experience yesterday. I fished my club's Veterans Match, fished a one of the clubs crucian and tench lakes. I've not fished a match for over four years, so went with no expectation at all. True to form I drew the last peg, this one:

I decided to only fish on the pole. Normally I would baitup three swims, right, left and straight over. However I reckoned that due to the recent hot spell the oxygen levels would be reduced and the fish less active. Although this is a prolific water with small crucians to 12oz and tench from 12oz to 3lb, recent results had been poor with 3lb being a good weight. So my instinct was to fish one line, tight up to the lily pads. No super duper water craft needed, a no brainer really. The swim was five and a half foot deep so I set up a 0.6g float with all the lead over the bottom 2ft. I opted to fish 6mm expander pellet and was looking for the tench. Most would catch crucians, but I felt the tench would make the difference. The match was only four hours, so not much time to frig about. I fished tight as I could to the lilies, but there was a lot of soft weed, nothing you got fastened on, but you had to plonk it about to find a clear spot where you could deck it. Had a good first hour with small crucians fishing at the dead depth, but missed several fast bites. I stuck an extra 2 inch on and waited until they gobbed it and that worked OK, not so many bites, but hit every one. Second hour was slow and people started bank walking, always a good sign if your catching. The last ninety minutes the tench came out to play and then it was just a matter of trying to get them out from under the lilies and then through the soft weed. I managed to bag a few and of course lost some in the process. The whistle went for time at four o'clock, being the end peg I was last to weigh. When the scales arrived the top weight was 3lb 12oz. I put 14lb 4oz on the pan for a comfortable win.

We then retired to the pub and I had a warm inner glow that was not all due to the ale. Pete

Late start due to a windscreen chip repair this morning. Popped into Fishing Republic on was home as it was on route. If it wouldnt have been cutting off my nose to spite my face I would have left the goods on the counter and walked out.
The staff didn't really want to break off their most important conversation just to serve me.

My excuse for a blank this evening is the amount of water that has gone into the lake. It will make me more determined for next time.

Visited the “always worth a look (thread)” water yesterday, when I first reconnoitred it there were loads of roach swimming about on top and heard one big splash which I fancied was a big roach. So, with that in mind went expecting to catch 2lb roach all day, guess what, yep you got it - not a bite.
Then I remembered I knew these waters years ago, about 2 miles away when it was day ticket or free, I cannot remember which before it was taken over by some seclusionists, it was a wide drain type of water, very deep 14ft and good bream and tench fishing but I remembered from then it would just not “fish”, sat there many times and not a bite. This bit was narrower and I expected it to be a lot shallower but it was still about 10ft. Just nothing swimming about even. Fishing is such a mystery, 8 in porcupine quill, 2 bb, 10 hook and only bread tried, took some soft pellets but i didnt bother trying them, just knew there was nothing feeding.
Still, I did not get turfed off and had a nice meal and beer in the garden of the pub nearby, funny how people look at you when you walk in a pub with fishing gear, sort of bemused look, suppose it is a rare sight to most of them. Beautiful countryside all around, herons, goldficnches and chaffinces all around.
Might give it another go but neglecting my sea fishing, must get a few fresh mackerel this year for the pan.

Careful, they might handicap you next time by 12lb:)

I’d hazard a guess you sport a few waistcoats as well.
