Early start again, first on fishery again, loaded up and out of car park by 4 50 am, fished same swim as Tuesday, same methods too, had three carp in first hour.

I do seem to take quite a bit of tackle with me, to much really but if I didn’t I’d be thinking I should have brought such a thing.

Had this kingfisher sat across from me for a few minutes, there’s one or two about at the moment, kept picking the odd carp up at intervals through the day as well, and only lost three today for a change, all lightly hooked that I landed.

In the afternoon there were quite a few on the surface, and a chap near me was catching on pellet waggler, so had a look in my bag and found a middi float, one that you can put pellets in, sealed with soaked pellets, and a spring pushes them out, first cast and the float shot under, and I caught this nice common, don’t get many mostly mirrors,

Had two more on it as well, so another method to try, finished up with twelve carp and one bream, doing better for carp on this fishery, had 74 already this year, against 66 all last year, not bad for twenty pounds a year, more tench than I’ve caught for a long while as well.

Micks back of his holiday Sunday, gets one day fishing and then a small operation will stop him fishing for a couple of weeks, so more fishing on my own for a while yet.

You need to fish else where your lake appears to be understocked:). Talking to a friend at dancing yesterday he had to give up fishing the other day to give his arm a rest. He lost count of how many carp he caught he caught.

Yesterday - stood up to my knees in the river with a 3m whip, going for a few dace under a willow while the kids built a dam just downstream. A beautiful roach darted out at one point and took my bread, photo doesn't do it justice but it had those dark red fins with black edging.

This morning - short session spinning a tiny "spinnertail" lure. Had a few follows from chub, got a jack and a small perch, great little session.

I’d hazard a guess you sport a few waistcoats as well.

I did while working for a living, a three piece suit was a job requirement. When I retired I took all my suits to OxFam. Never worn one since, or a tie. Pete.

Don't blame ya Pete, being trussed up like a turkey isn't any fun, mine was the other way, covered in dust and filth,it's a pleasure to be relatively clean, even if I had 100lbs of bream I'd be cleaner...

Had a long overdue trip back up the Severn yesterday where I was greeted with a couple of blankers packing up moaning that it was too low when in fact it was up a bit following the rains, I still managed to wade out and there was worse places to be standing as the river flowed beneath me boiling away, long strands of ranunculus moved from side to side like long green hair and what looked like minnow and gudgeon were dancing around underneath in the current

I tried trotting caster and hemp for a change in the hope of getting a good mix of fish and beating the small stuff but it didn't work as bleak and even tiny roach were making things hard on what was now a bright and sunny day.

A change to pellet worked for a few better quality roach but nothing over a pound which disappointed me. I think a couple of really big roach in the opening weeks of the season had left me with over inflated expectations and maybe there was no harm in a reality check like today. It was hard work with the water a bit coloured but a few decent chub kept me busy before a small fat barbel saved the day.

I moved swims later on to find what was usually a busy stretch empty so the fishing must have been hard of late, or perhaps they knew this was coming....

In hindsight now I think I did ok but I sure had a long, damp smelly trip home :D

Used to like trotting smallish cubes of meat when the Severn had a little bit on Rob,trouble is you delete the roach option.

I had a day with wheat this week as I said, my wheat stock is very low so I went to my local tackle shop, they had none. He also said he had no plans to buy more. I thought I'd have a look on the internet but the only one on offer that I found was 11.99 a kilo with 3.99 postage.
Anyone in Sheff know where I can find some wheat.

Find your local country feeds store (equestrian/pets/poultry etc). A 20kg sack should be less than a tenner.

Thanks Sam last one I got a friend picked it up and we split a sack. Lasted quite a long time. My friend has since died.
I get my hemp and pellets from a shop that for some reason sells wheat mixed with split maize.

I've just now picked up a sack for the chickens, 25kg is under £8. Go to local farm supplies or similar. Sometimes pet shops keep it if you only want a small amount, and let's face it, 25kg of wheat cooked up is an awful lot of wheat!

Late afternoon trip to a lake near Edenbridge Kent. I finished work and hastily put some gear together for floater fishing, unfortunately too hastily. I must be losing the plot! I have just bought a new landing net handle and much good it will do me sitting in a spare bedroom next to my old one, grr. I swopped forceps, disgorger etc into a small bag and then after changing my mind and taking a larger bag left them at home too. Making do with a Leatherman for forceps and a bank stick for a handle. Just had an 11lb common so that’s a start. Now it’s started raining ffs and a frigging morehen has nicked the bread, double grr.

It's an age thing Ray...

Tell me about it. I got the rods set up yesterday to discover I left my tackle box behind with bait needle, forceps etc behind.
Luckily its on 20 mins return. Tackle was left at lake as its a deserted spot.

Another early start on the reservoir this morning with a gentle northerly breeze blowing into the shallows.A bite a chuck to start with on float fished corn catching roach after roach until a pike grabbed one biting through the hook length.Even managed a bream of about 2lb before the pike showed up.
After that it was over to the leger rods which managed a bream of over 3lb on plastic corn.
A couple of kingfishers zipping up down, an osprey flew in circled and then flew off towards other pools in a different valley.
A Spitfire flew over towards Bruntingthorpe, perhaps a re-fuelling stop, unmistakeable sound of the RR engine.

I find all these comments reassuring because they confirm I'm not necessarily losing the plot and we are all prone to do this. Last Monday after fishing with Tigger I left my bank stick with rod rest embedded in the lake bed. I am aware of anglers leaving their rod in the car park. In truth we all take too much gear and once laid out on the bank , it's hardly surprising that certain items are left behind. I was probably as bad at 21.
