Nice fish and beautifully coloured for canal fish, funny how the fading light thing doesn't always work though that last perch looks like it had had plenty to eat.

Four hours on the Bridgewater towing like a train for the first blank of the decade. I didn't like the look of it when I arrived at around 10am, it just looked dead and so it was. Not even a nibble. Let's hope it's not setting the tone for the next ten years. What a way to start 2020:(

The day before NYE I managed to nab a lift of my wife who was taking the dog for a quick walk.
Tried a spot on the river where I'd caught a few big twos about 4 years ago.
A very brief half hour session resulted in my last fish of the year, bang on two pounds.
Had to send this shot to my nephew who bought me the t shirt for Christmas. ;)

Hey guys,

Thought I'd share my last outing... and my first post on this thread ??????

I went out to Little Cansiron Farm just past edenbridge, a really nice day ticket fishery with 2 lakes, one for match fishing and one for decent carp. I went down there with the intention of fishing the match lake for what I hoped would be an easy day, but unfortunately there was actually a match taking place so I had to fish the top lake, at this point expecting a blank.

I started with my first rod on a method feeder and a boilie and my other rod on a float with some slow sinking bread. A few hours on the boilie and nothing, a few hours with the float and I was getting taps here and there probably from the roach but no takes. About 2 hours before sundown I decided to loose feed some 8.5mm pellet and put one on as my hookbait as I know the fishery owner feeds them on these pellets during winter and closed season.

Literally within 10 minutes I had a roaring take, I had to splash, hop and slide through the mud to get to my rod, and after playing the fish for about 5 minutes I finally caught a glimpse and I knew this was gonna be up there with my biggest carp (not that big haha).

After getting it in and realising I didn't have my scales a nice bloke on the other side let me borrow his, and yes, it was a PB, a beautiful 14lb common on an 8mm pellet. I was over the moon. The last hour or so saw a 9lbs carp come out and another run after that i decided to let me partner take and she landed herself a nice 6/7lbs carp.

So all in all a pretty good afternoon once we got past the slow morning. Just wanted to share my new PB PB you guys, which hopefully this year I'll be able to absolutely smash when i start my first night fishing sessions when the weather improves. I tried to attatch an image but unsure if it will work.

Tight lines all,

Joe.

I very nearly suggested a trip Gordon but glad I didn't.:) Mind you we would probably have tried elsewhere. Don't worry you've got 362 days to rectify matters.

It was a nice sunny day and about 1:30 I felt like going out.
Chucked a few bits in the car and popped down the supermarket.
Shock horror! There was someone fishing on my swim...
I walked down the wharf and it was skippy, I knew it was a mistake to tell him about it...
There was just enough room to sit next to him so I set up my gear.
Well I only had two bites while skip was catching quality roach and perch which was annoying..

Then to cap it all I got a tangle on my reel and had to pack up early!!!

I wasn't going to bother posting as it gets very samey. However on reflection to catch a number of carp on a bitterly cold day would have been unheard of in times past.
7 of the fellows plus rudd and perch in a bitter NW wind on 3rd Jan warmed me up a bit.
Worm/prawn/dead gits./waggler.
Funny..I was the only one there!

Luckily I managed to get out three times over the festive period. The first trip down to the farm ponds on the 27th saw me fishing the lower lake as both top lakes were booked up for a match. I had some dead maggots to use up so opted for the usual waggler tactics I enjoy. It also gave me a chance to test out my new Daiwa match winner reel. Had a decent day catching some nice roach and the odd carp. Sadly the small common in the picture had the most horrible of growths on its head. Quite sickening really! I'd never seen anything quite like it before and can only assume its some sort of tumour?
Thursday (2nd) I fished the top lake in the hope of that elusive two pound stripey. The conditions seemed bob on (overcast and fairly mild) however I was disappointed and no perch showed. I did however catch some nice roach and a gatecrashing eight pound carp that wallowed about for ages before I could get the net under it! Friday provided another chance for a crack at the top lake perch. Again I fished waggler and alternated between red maggot and worm. I fished a different swim to Thursday. This particular spot has a reed lined margin that I have caught perch from before. I didn't expect much as the conditions were much brighter however I had four decent stripeys the biggest going 1 1/2lb. Its been a decent start to 2020 and good to wet a line. I intend to keep a log this year of all my trips which I can look back on at the end of the year. I've also set myself some small and hopefully achievable targets this year to add a bit of interest to proceedings.
1) 2lb + Perch
2) 3lb + Tench
3) Up my Tench total for the year (2019=43)
4) 1lb + Roach
5) Fish 3 new venues
6) Take my godson fishing more
7) Continue to enjoy my fishing and relax!!

Happy New Year All and Tight Lines for 2020!!

Over the years I’ve had many comments from skippy concerning my passion, canal fishing. Often slightly derogatory comments about gudgeon and snotty skimmers. After his success on the supermarket swim yesterday he was up for trying another canal venue today.
I suggested we try the pound where Rob and I fished Thursday.

I caught 2 roach, a ruff, a skimmer and some perch including one of 1:15:0 and loads of gudgeon.

Ironically, skippy caught gudgeon after gudgeon, then to his abject horror, a skimmer....

I had 4 foot of water in front of me....2 and a half foot of it being gudgeon. Simon's perch was a cracker....cant understand why we didn't have more. Apart from the pongos ( which must have gone about 100 to the pound) and the skimmer I had one perch and a micro roach. Interesting day but the gudgeon did get very tedious after a while.

After weeks of good intentions and not actually getting out of the door, I managed to get out today.
Almost exactly three hours of fishing for a slightly disappointing 29 roach. Five or so of them would have been around the pound mark. There were a few other anglers on the pond that weren't doing a great deal, though I doubt more than one of them was fishing for anything but carp.

I hate winter.
