I had a fun filled morning of sieving and riddling. I got my backside to the lake for about 1500. I then decided that it was probably a bit too risky to fish blind without a bit of raking. Half an hour of that revealed that I may have got away with it. The only nagging doubt was that I've never caught on this lake immediately after raking. It didn't take much more than an hour for that fear to be dispelled.

4lb 7oz for the first of the year.

Nipped out last night for the last hour or so of daylight, I was hoping for perch so took a jigging rod and was traveling light and very mobile. The water was a lot more coloured than I expected so opted to fish a dark lure in hopes of providing a good silhouette. Last years banker swims didn't provide so much as a nibble, I dropped into a swim that's generally hit and miss and right under my feet I had a lovely hard hit that was unmissible. I was expecting a nice perch, as normally that's all I catch in that swim, but was pleasantly surprised with a mini zander.

Well after genuinely six months between fish, due to work, lockdown and a general lack of ability (and after six missed bites) I've finally landed one. A humble fish that may as well be Jaws to me, I am over the moon

First time out after LD, went to Lakesdie farm.....top lake was rammed, bottom lake only a few, so setup in the same swim I had a nice Tench from in the winter.

Didnt even get a bite, from 8am to 6pm....

Tried allsorts of baits and bottom feeding methods but nowt.

Listening to the chat, it seemed the same for all, bit strange....

I know its been a bit chilly, but I wondered if on Wednesday all hell let loose and about 20 ton of bait was launched in ?

Didnt see and movement at all.

Shame, but a day on the bank isnt wasted....

Nice to be back out on a local river for a couple of short evening sessions as there is no close season in France. I had a spot in mind that was very isolated that I not been to for a few years. Access was difficult involving a 15min walk from the car followed by a precarious scramble at water level through dense undergrowth....@50 yards through that...

The swim itself was totally over grown, a good sign, so I had spent an hour cutting a space with secateurs. it looked nice with a side stream coming in from to my left. I had Roach in mind but expected other species might turn up so compromised on the tackle somewhat which turned out to be a good decision.

First trip touch ledgering with 1 rod I was getting tugs immediately & in the next hour I hooked 4 fish, landing 3 , a good Roach, a pretty little Mirror and a Barbel which I landed last & went back strongly..

Next evening I was back and followed up with another good Roach, A Chub & a Bream.

Happy with the start in the swim, five different species in about 3 hours fishing. Both the Roach were over a pound so I have hopes something special might turn up.

Went to Lowfield lakes yesterday.....
It’s a commercial water but looks very natural
I sat on peg 12 at the riverside strip lake and fished a small method to the far bank and pole in the margins...
Ended up with carp up to 8lb and plenty of them (101lb) on my clicker303E29D0-7CE3-486D-8836-3B56D1A6946A.jpg

First time in ages I have been on a canal towpath today - not fishing.
That was a mixture of persistent angler's cursiosity and unpleasant walk.

In regards to what I've noticed, some stretches have become very clear, so the bottom can be seen until the middle. I was surprised by the amount of weed!
Most of the canal however looks like an unhealthy pond demanding oxygen, the lack of water renewal is having an effect.

Apart from that, i was unpleasantly surprised by the boat owners attitude. Wherever a common path leads to the towpath, tons of signs advising people that they are really, really unwelcome. I doubt those signs have been installed by the council or the canal trust. Old road signs, handwritten posters.
The canal belongs to us, go away.
"Residents only" (bad news for anglers, joggers, walkers, council-tax payers who paid for the large renivated towpath: the canal is now private)
"Vulnerable people here" (most of those residents were young people having a beer in their new private garden)
"Towpath for locals only" (no way you should use it if you go for work)
"Diversion road" (just go away, we're traffic officers as well)

Never mind, I ignored those signs and had my walk, keeping my distance!

Had my first try on the GUC today, I purposely chose a venue with a wide towpath and no moorings.

That’s an old photo of it above. There was already one angler fishing when I arrrived, I asked if he’d had anyone complaining about his presence which he hadn’t.
I set up a bit further down with a light waggler to a 20 B 560. The cut was flowing nicely from left to right due to the river Bulbourne flowing in up by the lock.
My baits were limited to red maggot and flouro pinkies which I bought Thursday. It took a while for the first bite, a skimmer.
The water was fairly clear in the margins which didn’t fill me with confidence but I soldiered on. Had just 2 more bites during the 5 hour session, a dace and a little perch.

The other angler did much better fishing 7m whip and punch shallow, landing 8 or so skimmers.

1st Trip out this year with My son aged 13 who has been a few times in previous years and the 1st time for my younger son who is 10. All 3 of us caught a mirror carp, 2 to 10lb and 1 to 11lb. Also had 2 bream to 2lb and a 4lb Tench. Weather was warm and sunny, location was great, no worry about SD, lake was very busy but lots of room.

Boys loved the day, going again next week but twice :)

I went to another club water today and was a little surprised to find 3 anglers there at all let alone at 8.00am. We all kept our distance but they were occupying my favourite pegs so I tackled up as far from them as I could.

I alternated between a feeder and float rod but had nothing at all on the former but 4 carp to 6lb and a dozen roach on the latter. Dead krilled maggots seemed to be the dish of the day although 2 carp fell to meat. It was a nice day but cold when the sun disappeared behind thick cloud.

The 3 early birds all left at around noon having caught 1 carp and 2 roach between them. It just goes to show that switching pegs , even when obliged to do so, can often produce dividends.

Roll on next Tuesday when I have a tutorial with the Master.:cool:

Whips and poles, elasticated top kits and pulla bungs; not surprisingly I'm not disappointed.:wh

No pulls bungs required, I would have fished a rod but the far bank of where iam going is like a parrot cage so better presentation with pole, and whip down the track.
Next week is waggler and feeder rods on a gravel pit.

There's hope for us all if you blank Mark.:) . Canals are frustrating places hence my reluctance to fish them. Gordon may have other ideas. There's always the next time.
