Well I'm planning to get down to one of the local ponds over the next week to get my first carp/bream (any of the above) of the year, but I ended up going to Chesil beach for a picnic yesterday so I thought why not get the beachcaster out!

Thats dinner sorted for a couple of days!

My fishing is curtailed fo at least a week, and not when its sunny.
I caught the sun the other day when I was out, and a couple of weeks ago I got cellulitis around my eyes due to sun, even though I thought I was staying out of it. I looked like a bloody chipmonk, puffed up checks and eyes half open.A course of antibiotics cured it.
So if you are going fishing in the sun, slap sunscreen on, and do it regular through the session.
I put it on the other day and also a hat but still came back looking like ribena man..I hardly slept last nightbecause in agony so going to pick and choose days I am going.I have a 50" brolly but there was nowhere to put it the other day.
So stay out of the sun and stay safe.

Having plucked up the courage to get out a couple of times, and realising I felt no less comfortable by the water than I did hiding under a table at home, and even a bit more entertained, I thought I'd try the Old Lake. It has great winter roach fishing, and brilliant sport with tench in spring, although casual carpers make up the majority of anglers. Will it be open, I wondered?

It was seething. Twenty-odd of the twenty five or so pegs were taken, cars all over the place. The bailiff came out of his waterside lodge and told me every peg has been taken on previous days, and he was fed up shouting to people not to run to each other's peg to look when they caught one, or similar offences against social distance.

All too much for me. So, after a short session yesterday, when seeds stopped play after the first bite, today's didn't even get started. I suppose it saved me from getting sunburn.

It sounds like our day yesterday Kev. I'll be relieved to find an empty lake. Lovely spot where you were though ; shame the hordes thought the same.

Was quite enjoying my lunch break on the canal. Catching a few little perch on a cut down keitech.
Then this happened. Not my first on the lure, never a pleasure? and it crapped in the new net ?

I was so excited to get out fishing today that I drove past the turn off for the M21 and had to drive about an extra twelve miles to get to the venue, bl00dy idiot.

It was scorching hot today and it didn’t bode well that the carp were spawning and crashing about in the reeds. I find carp spawning is the kiss of death for other species as well. As it turned out I didn’t have a bad day considering. I had five tench on the float, all about four pounds, like peas in a pod. A dozen or so ide and some decent roach.

Today was the day I have fantasised about for a long time, whether it be from a hospital bed or more recently my room of quarantine at home.

It just happened to co-incide with the hottest day of the year. I wasn’t able to do a more favourable early start as I had to stay at home for a hospital telephone consultation regarding my blood clots. Apparently I had “unprovoked” pulmonary embolisms in both lungs, no explainable reason why they happened, not rare, about 40% of clots are unprovoked. Means being on blood thinners for the rest of my life, not happy about that but needs must.

So I didn’t arrive at the estate til 2pm and was surprised to see the normally shy carp parading right in front of me, some courtship going on prior to spawning I guess. As in so many previous trips I had the lake to myself, the gardens are still closed so it was just me and the chorus of bird song.

Finally got the chance to try my new (old) rod, a Drennan Crystalight courtesy of Chris (Sam Vimes).

I cannot begin to describe how good it was to be back in this place of stunning beauty.

The fishing went very much as expected given the time of day and conditions, skimmers, hybrids and a couple of half decent roach.

The majority of fish taken on stewed wheat.

Another member turned up as I was packing up, I think of him as the tench master, he didn’t disappoint landing one just a few minutes after setting up.

A quick walk around the lake before heading home.

Jurassic Park

Hopefully I’ll be fit enough for a dawn raid soon, in search of those tinca bubbles.

Managed to meet up with my fishing mate for the first time since lock down . We met at a club water nice spot in Cheshire . To hot really and very weedy . Fishing wise nothing much happened during the morning though I watched a mink trying to get at some moorhen chicks and managed to spook it . Later I had a grass snake swim through my patch , haven't seen one in years . I fished meat , corn and pellets for not a sniff , the place is usually good for tench , mainly small but the odd surprise . Eventually I switch to little worms which i remembered were in the bottom of the bait bag . Started catching little perch , then an ide again small. Another angler gave me some maggots , felt young again . As the day progressed I caught a few nice roach and got seen off by a carp . Great day but to hot for fishing . The new normal went pretty well but you have to keep thinking.

I was up at 5:30 this morning and on the canal bank near Berkhamsted by 7. Good colour in the water and barely a breath of wind.

Plenty of bites on maggot or pinkie but no response to tares or hemp. Skimmers, gudgeon, perch, chublets and roach all showing.

By 10:30 it got too hot and the bites dried up so I called it a morning...

As much as I had wanted to see the lush greens of the trees and shrubs on the estate I also yearned for a trip to the sea and not unlike yesterday the conditions were far from ideal from a fishing point of view, high tide lunch time with clear blue skies and bright sunshine.

Headed to Westgate On Sea, a spot where you are least bothered by swimmers and boat traffic. It was indeed a glorious sight on arrival with a gin clear sea free of weed.

I went with low expectations and wasn’t disappointed, spent ninety minutes chucking my go to lures without a touch.

Felt quite knackered after continuous casting and decided enough was enough, thoroughly enjoyed the sea air though and with a nice wide promenade people kept their distance.

Early start today, up at 4.30 car loaded and away, arrived at fishery at 5,30, car park empty and just one chap on other bank, but he lives there, very mild and just a bit of drizzle for ten minutes and then dry all day, and very warm.

Picked a swim which fished ok on Tuesday, so set myself up there, tried pole first but a couple of carp ran me into a weed bed and snapped me within ten minutes, so put pole away and rigged up my power float rod, six pound line to a drennan glo tip float and a size 12 hook, fished just over depth.

Fed one swim in front at 6 metres and the margins either side, with 2 mm pellets, baited with 6 mm expander pellets, plenty of line bites and the swim was full of bubbles, first fish was an F1.

Then caught a mixture of F 1s and tench all around the one to two pound mark, missed a lot of bites, and more hooked and off in seconds.

The high point of the day for me was this lovely fully scaled mirror carp.

Finished up with five tench, six F1s, and the one carp, would have more than doubled that with those I lost,
One of the tench.

After my exertions with the Master I was relaxed about fishing again but when a mate has yet to venture out after lockdown and needs to go and, more importantly, has no maggots, one must do the right thing. :wh. Accordingly I met up with Gordon at 7.00 am this morning with my carton from Willy Worms. The b*****pinkies were already out of their bag through a tiny hole.

A lovely venue if a little difficult. We set up on adjacent pegs 10 yards apart and despite the willow seeds on the water which were clearly attracted to us and floated down in our direction, we both caught consistently and had over 30 fish apiece .

I had 4 decent bream to 4lb like this.

I have never čaught as many perch in my life , around 15 but the biggest was only about 8 oz.

All in all it was a lovely day in warm sunshine with good company and conversation and one to be repeated very soon.

As Neil said on your previous post, great to see you back - fantastic photos as usual!

looks the same round my neck of the woods John, clear sea but the wind was a bit chilly today. A couple of Chinese blokes fishing off the beach next to the harbour arm, looked like they had been there for a while with tents the lot. They had not had a bite. if the Chinese cannot catch no one can.
I have a half baked theory or I read it somewhere, the bass follow the gulf stream which takes a while for it to lap round our shores. I noticed mackerel being caught at Chisel but that's further south; no mackerel here yet or bass or much else. I would put it down to May-water but can't smell it yet but that might come next with all this sunshine. Some wind getting up at the weekend apparently which might create a bit of surf; might bring a few in.
Give it time and they will show, bass or mackerel or both. Anyway nice to read your out enjoying yourself, bet you appreciate it all the more now; nothing like a bit of fresh sea air to blow the cobwebs away :)
