I am with John Aston, that there are examples of the above, certainly although I have never seen it but nothing wrong with discussing that but when it becomes a racist rant, that's not a discussion that should be had on here. Not something I can enjoy anyway. So pass.

John,if the parents chose to bring their children up not to do the things being quoted, they would be more accepted, even a reduced level of lawlessness would be a massive improvement, how many within the traveller community clean up their own mess,a place I used to work had 6 caravans roll up one night after we had left, they were there for five days, every day we,the workers had to clean their poo from the entrance door, several times I came out to find women having a crap in said doorway, they could have gone in any number of places, but chose the most disgusting option,if the traveller community want a better reputation they need to show they've earned it,not think that people should just accept their unnessacery lifestyle,I don't hate anybody, but I hate what they practice,be that a white, black, yellow, traveller, tramp,or any other label we can come up with,if you act like a criminal, chances are you are a criminal,simples...which I've managed a life of nearly 69 years without being one...

How can we turn something that decries the acts of a certain group as racist, that is the problem in this country,we give different groups titles(some name themselves),so when we talk about bad behaviour of any one of these it gets labelled prejudiced, can't we actually accept that if any one of these labelled groups misbehaves they have prejudiced their own cause and chances of acceptance from the rest of the general public...

Noting wrong with decrying abhorrent behaviour of individuals , as I have already made clear. But stigmatising an entire social group is very different .Aimed at any other grouping it would be illegal - but it seems it's just fine as long as gypsies are the target . As they have been before , of course.

I cannot think of another minority/ demographic/ whatever group which acts in the ways described above. Name me another. Even the worst football fans and drunken yobs don’t act in this way . They call themselves travellers living in harmony with nature but they despoil the areas they stop in, act illegally, intimidate the people they come across thus reinforcing prejudice , and do themselves no favours in the process. I accept that some behave responsibly . Shame I’ve yet to come across them.

I would be more interested in why they did that, its not normal behavior even from these people, I have never seen or heard of it until this site/thread; what happened when they rocked up, did your boss try to make the best of a bad situ, offer them a cup of tea, some work in exchange for some use of facilities for a couple of weeks, maybe a bit of paid work, fence shed painting or yard clearing, I think I would have done after a bit of careful thought, would have avoided all this unpleasantness probably. Maybe even turn it into an annual event quid pro quo. Or was it something else entirely!!? I am only guessing but what was it?

I think that some posters on here have little or no personal experience and are parroting urban myths and tabloid headlines. That can lead to the situation that John is referring to.

I said before that the personal experience can be affected depending on whether you are helping or hindering them. I have quite a bit of personal experience of dealing with settled and travelling gypsies, but in all cases I was hindering them by preventing them from doing what they wanted to do. I have had vehicles driven at me, a vehicle trying to ram my van and suffered personal threats from them. I have also been lied to many, many times. In that respect my personal experiences have always left me with a negative view of them.

I found that the best way to deal with them was to front them up and play them at their own game. So when two GSDs went missing from a village where a settled traveller was known to be dealing in security dogs I went to visit him, on my own. He of course denied it so I asked him for a date when I could examine his business records and tax returns. He said that he wasn't in business. I said that I would contact the Army Dog Training Centre and get all the details of the many dogs that he had sold them to prove that he was trading. The next day I got a message to say that the two dogs had returned home all by themselves.

It was the same when I stopped those 'collecting' scrap metal. My enquiries did not stop at that. I would invite the DSS & HMRC to attend the interviews as well. Inevitably those stealing kids bikes and trampoline frames were claiming benefits as well as earning tax free from the metal theft. Same with the EE members of our society.

If the police followed the ACPO guidelines to the letter there would be a lot less to moan about.

So,when you stop a traveller from bird liming birds(illegal),you must accept the flak your going to receive, because he 'wanted' to do it,nah sorry,I would imagine the Yorkshire ripper was a bit miffed he was caught, because he wanted to kill young women...I'm a law abiding citizen,if your not get prosecuted,or that's how it should work, unless you wander the country in a caravan...being good 99% of the time and then being a burglar 1% still gets you a sentence....

I've said many times before on here I chair a Friends of Park Group and have had several dealing with these lovely people, so this is "personal experience" and not parroting urban myths or tabloid headlines. 3 Years ago they 30, yes 30 carvans turned up in the park, broke in by cutting through the heavy metal barriers with sthillsaws.
And before anyone says how do I know it was them?
They were videoed by one of the park users who then phone me about what he'd seen. When I got to the park he showed me the video of the guy, who was still there, doing it!
It took the parks dept 3 days to get rid of them using the special powers re Parks and Sports pitches Councils and the police have. The shite they left behind was nothing short of disgusting.
The cost to clean it up was £3,000 to specialist cleaning contractor. That money has to come out of the park budget and takes that money away from other things the true community needs and wants in our local park.

14 months later they were back same script, same MO, this time the clean up costs were £6.000 but we did have them gone within 36 hours using the same powers under parks and playing fields.
As some of you know my spectator sport is speedway and they have broken in the car park of the stadium 3 times over the last 3 years. What they didn't reckon on was the same special powers being used to remove them. The stadium is owned by the council and a multi sports ground, therefore it falls under the special powers order. 😂 😂😂
Unfortunately, the Special Powers Order only last for 90 days and then you have to go through the process again.
They really are likable people who look after the assets of the local community.......NOT!
I have another name for them that can't be used on here but it starts G and ends in O and I really don't care that the bleedin hearts think it s racist. They are nothing short of amoebas on the back of normal people. and communities.

I am lost for words. So you would welcome trespassers with the offer of a cup of tea or a spot of casual work. Unbelievable.
Yep, sure would give it a try, given all the considerable aggro and considerable costs you people keep putting yourselves through dealing with it your ways, would be very much up for trying something different if in that position.

Have you suggested such tactics to the Ukrainians.? You will be advocating placing toilet rolls in public doorways next. Despicable , illegal, and abhorrent behaviour is to be deplored and stopped not condoned.

That sounds very much like the aggro and costs sustained by Ukraine. Appeasement doesn’t work and history should have told you that.

Are you real, your comparing the Ukraine with some travelers, appeasement between waring countries, whos talking about appeasement. Give it up man, you don't know what your on about. You have lost me, Ukraine, toilet rolls, appeasement, some other world.
I will leave you to it, getting to go fishing now and a bit of sensibility. good luck.

Ah just one more thing before I go, we never did learn the other side of Alans travelers story did we, never mind but I did ask, I will just take it there was another side to it.

I once had a conversation with a few chaps in the pub, about what we'd do if we caught a burglar red-handed.

One said he'd keep hold of him until the police arrived, which we laughed could be several days; another said he'd beat the sh1t out of him; and one said he'd offer to buy everything back.

.

By coincidence and just a couple of miles from where I live. Two travellers broke into a house owned by two elderly people. The husband was the carer of his wife, who suffered from dementia. The old boy went to investigate and in the ensuing struggle manage to wound the burglar with a knife, the burglar had been armed with a screwdriver . The burglar died shortly after from the stab wound and the other man fled the scene. The householder was arrested and ended up being bailed after being charged with murder, the householder was incidentally 78 years old and this must have had a terrible effect on his wellbeing.

The traveller community were saying what a good guy the burglar was and the old boy should have let him just get on with it. They then made death threats against the man and his wife. These threats were taken seriously and they were moved to a place of safety. They never returned to their home.

Meanwhile the travellers placed floral tributes to the burglar outside the old boy’s house and ended up in fights with locals who were naturally incensed and trashed them.

Now in my opinion burglar’s aren’t unique to the travelling community, but I can’t think of any other social group that would try to justify the actions of a burglar and career criminal, or for that matter drive a pair of decent elderly people from their home.

Maybe the old boy should have offered the burglar tea and biscuits. Are all involved except the old couple scum, I would say so, remember these people turned out in large numbers and held a vigil outside the victim’s home and drove them from it, never to return.
