Weather... Below freezing allday, very sunny.(winter low sun!)
Water temp. Not taken..but COLD!
Method.... roving for chub...crust and cheesepaste.
Results... covered loads of swims but couldn't buy a bite in the strong sun, determined not to blank on the first day so fished into dark.....managed three chub to 4lb 2oz phew!

Brief description of the session
Started in a weirpool on a carrier stream lots of minnows and two very small roach on maggot moved to main river fished three swims with a variety of methods not a bite anywhere.

Well done Paul, it is bloody cold though. Was there clear skies and a full moon?

It was clear skys but i didn't notice the moon, but it may be low, the Sun certainly was and as John (P)says it was so bright during the day, couple this with clear cold water and it is easy to see why dusk was best bet.

Water temp......didn't take but obviously cold
Method.... ...started on mashed bread and flake but caught on cheesepaste.
Results.......one chub around 3lb, lost another bigger one at the net. It had been dead all afternoon but the river seemed to come alive around 16.00. River low and clear - can't wait for warm rain but it is nice to have some proper winter chubbing.

Brief description of the session Baited two adjacent swims with mashed bread and fished both with flake and cheesepaste.I've caught plenty of chub from here before but they just don't seem interested at the moment.

probably something to do with all the boilies Rik has been lobbing in....pre-baiting campaign.....

I wouldn't waste good boilies prebaiting that high up.
The chub only run to high sixes and the barbel to 13.

If I could be bothered, I'd do it lower down, where the barbel go to 15 and the chub to high 7's.

Yes but it's busy down there, the only other person that I ever see up the top end is that crazy bailiff whose name escapes me at the moment.

Trotted a usually reliable swim (had a 5.8 chub on the float b4 Xmas from here)No bites .

Should of course be 2002.Only two other anglers,they left before I did,apparently from Sunderland!!!.Last nights 5day met report said 5deg c.??

Brief description..Trotted until 16.00 then leger for a while, moved to different swim until end,no bites on leger just two fish on float.Spoke to a few other anglers all struggling, one had caught one chub also trotting.

Water conditions..clear, low and falling. Margin ice to 10metres in places, ice floes (and a large boat that sank with loss of life and a budget of millions)
Method.....trotted maggot

Brief Description...Found one fishable spot but the ice floes made trotting very difficult. Hit two bites but lost both due to the ice, small fish only. It was the fact that there was any action at all that kept me at it.

Brief discription....Not as cold as last few days so expected some bites but water clarity saw to that. Had one drop back bite as it got dark but struck to eagerly after the wait.
