After yesterday’s trip to the ‘new’ pond in the middle of nowhere I decided to return to the first pond for some more crucians. This was decided because, although the water is very clear, it’s not quite gin clear like the one yesterday – also it’s not quite so far to walk either so I didn’t need to leave at the crack of 09.45 as two consecutive early starts can be quite tireing................

I arrived at about 10.45 and set up the 14’er along the margins with a one and a half pound b/s bottom adorned with a 2x No8 and 3x No10 float (dotted right down) and fished under the rod tip. Another very sunny day but, after the first half hour, the bites came thick and fast and by 14.30 17 crucians had been banked although not to the size of the previous visit.

Of more importance, I believe that I might have taken the lead from Binks in the smallest tench challenge – the little bu99ers love to hide in the reeds with the crues..............

I needed a half kilo of lobs for a planned perch trip but two local tackle shops had non so I had to change my plans.
I ended up on a nearby club lake and to rub salt in the wound compounding my previous days dissapointment a last minute reminder from my wife had me fofgetting to get my hemp n tare from the freezer , an omission not discovered until I had tackled up, even the flash of blue from a passing kingfisher couldnt compare to the air that surrounded me, I was truly p - - d off !!!.
A can of sweetcorn was all I had, that and a few sandwiches for a mid day break.
so, a rig change and a bigger hook for the corn and I was finally fishing close to some lilly pads hoping for maybe a tench or bream that would hopefully rooting for the free corn placed carefully near them.
Ten minutes in and the floats away resulting in a small tench of maybe two pounds, a good start but that was it, nothing, zip, zero, diddly squatt, nadda.
An hour from leaving I broke down the gear and re rigged another rod n reel with eight lb mono and a size ten barbles super specialist and headed off to a tiny bay near the site entrance where a few carp usually mooch around in the weedy margins and sure enough there were three on the surface investigating a load of fallen catkins, time to rumble.
on went a lump of crust, a tiny dip on the waters surface to give me a little casting weight and out it went , spot on near the weedy floating scum and catkin shucks where a carp turned on it immedietely.
A short struggle and a common of maybe four lbs lay 7n the net. A lovely little thing but I couldnt be bothered waiting for things to settle so, honour satisfied I went for a chat with a fellow member who like me has the occasional session shooting a few clays, we agreed to share a day in the near future, one that will be a nice change.
A half hour later I was back home knocking up the snack that I had used up on the carp.

Me and the seatbox barrelled off to Bury Hill today for a session after the crucian on Milton. Phil had squeezed a couple of trips in already prior to his knee op but I've not been down yet. Been fishing well apparently but also getting a bit of a pasting so, what with that, a Jerry-esque start time and bright sun I thought it might be challenging.

It was....I had to work really hard for every fish and it took me over an hour to even coax the little buqqers into having a peck at all. Funny old day really....patchy but ultimately quite satisfying. More tomorrow once I've worked out how to post pictures.

For those unable to wait I had 23 fine,fat crucian with only 3 or 4 of those going less than about a pound. I guess they averaged 1-4 or so with the best maybe 1-12. Lovely fish. Add to that 5 green interlopers to about 4lb, a solitary perch and a solitary clonking roach and I was a reasonably happy bunny for half a pint of reds and a handful of expanders. All on the pole too.

I did get done rotten on 3-4 fish...one was certainly a carp but the others I think were big tench. Not much chance on my crucian rig which is a no 6 elastic and 2lb bottom.

Good day. The seatbox enjoyed it too.

Oh...I forgot. I was greeted on arrival by a nuthatch followed by a calling cuckoo and had lapwings displaying overhead all day. Even one of the Box Hill ravens showed up just to remind the local crows and magpies who the real guvnor is. Coots having their usual dust up with all and sundry. Never mind a Canada goose is 20 times the size have some of THAT ! Stupid bloody things !

Have you seen the TF seat box caddy? Great idea, basically enables you to carry it on your back, rucksack style. When you get to your swim it doubles as a back rest. Very clever.

No tench despite the warmer weather yesterday. But I did get a couple of roach well over the pound on ......... hair rigged 10mm boilies. mg:mg:

No I haven't but my days of carrying anything on my back apart from a jacket and the kids are over. Captain Trolley for me now....can't be having with them carp monkey Barrow things.

Club fixture on the GUC today. Fished by another bridge cutting and decided to try hair rigged punch on the tip as this pound is gudgeon city on maggots.



After folding a thick slice double I punched out some discs with a meat punch.



Threaded them onto a quick stop type hair rig (guru) with a free running 3/4 oz Arseley bomb.



Flicked it across the overhanging bushes on the far bank and within minutes I got a drop back on the tip, skimmer on....
As the sun got up it got hotter and hotter and even the gudgeon shut up shop.
After a bite less 4 hours I tipped back and packed up with half an hour to go..
Walking back I heard of one predicted 10lb and one 20lb weight in my section so I'm glad I didn't sit and wait ages for the scalesman to reach me...

Had a cracking day's fishing down in Kent with my Dad, apart from him clonking me on the head with the landing net handle whilst turning around to unhook a carp. mg:

We had around 12 carp, a tench each, lots of decent roach and best of all I caught my first ever crucian, not huge but it made me happy

Twas a beautiful day and the lake was deserted

Nice roach, about a pound or so

Small but very lively tench

My first ever hand-sized bar of gold, 1lb 4oz

Biggest common of the day, 13lb 12oz

Biggest mirror of the day, 13lb 8oz

Toft carp lake yesterday,1st match of a six-match series....and after 6 hours yesterday,i was regretting signing up for it,terrible draw,but mores to the point only 10 bites,resulting in 7 fish for 29lb odd,only beating 2 in my section of 7the 2 end pegs in the section produced 59lb and 53lb,other weights were 40lb,33lb,25lb,and 22lb.....elsewhere the lake fished better towards open water,with Carl(the Hullinator) Hulley taking the day with 140lb,Keith (Shallowman)Haynes,2nd with 122lb,and Jake King 120lb.....so no shortage of fish in certain areas,just not where 7 of us were..Tunnel Barn Farm,tomorrow,tues and friday for open matches,hopefully a better report..Tight lines,Gazza

Well...

As most have already figured out I suffered a blank on those wriggly little gits last night and a biteless one at that.

With it being such a nice day I decided to make the most of it and arrived at the water hours early, I then had a long chat with one of the regular carp lads who was bemoaning the lack of action and by the end of the day he ended up biteless too despite giving it a good ten hours on two rods which covered both zig and method feeder rigs.

A bit of a strange one really as the lake looked perfect when I arrived with a nice tinge of colour lapping away at the water’s edge but the forecasted sou’easterly swung around right on the drop of dusk and instead blew a nor’easterly which knocked the overnight low down from a predicted 14° to just 8° and left me with a flat calm surface directly in front as opposed to the nice ripple that was rolling in earlier.

It was still a great night for being out and a good shakedown of the overnight gear ready for a few more sessions, the sound of a nearby rabbit getting throttled by something in the very small hours was like something out of a horror movie but otherwise a very quiet night.

Three more lads on the opposite bank had also blanked overnight with just a half-hearted bite between them so I don’t feel too beat up about it, I often think that it can be very hit and miss at this time of the year with everything that’s going on in a water.

Watch out eels… I shall be back!

Sure s63, it's a small club lake in Higham, just behind the railway tracks. It's on a fairly run down industrial estate that used to be an old factory making pipes I think.

Well day out getting roasted on my normal pool some nice tench to 6 lb carp 15lb (one only) few nice Roach and a plague of small to medium Perch one small Crucian looked like one of last years fry nice to see they are breeding ..

But warm or what a fair dincum baking was had ..

Fished for bits on my local headbanger of a water. Ended up with one gorgeous little rudd of about six ounces and two micro perch. If I tell you that's nearly half as many bits as I extracted the whole of last season, you may appreciate why I'm surprisingly pleased.

Few days late but I fished a commie pond for carp on Friday evening (was fed up with the blanks I've had of late).

Fished the pellet waggler, two of us fishing feet apart pinging pellets almost constantly. Much fun was had, ended up with 10 from 5-10lb. First proper warm fishing session this year and I very much enjoyed it. Mate had 9 of similar weights. Our friend turned up with his mrs and 5 year old daughter, she thoroughly enjoyed netting our fish for us.

No pictures I'm afraid but we all know what carp look like ?
