Early start today – I kid you not, I was on the bank side at 9.30 this morning. Why was I up so early you might ask (and a very fair question – thank you for asking
). Well, a buddy that I met in the village pub (where else) has put me on to a couple of farm ponds that might hold crucians (his brother is the land owner) and like most of the places I’ve been fishing recently it’s in the middle of bloody nowhere and I needed a guide for the first visit. Unfortunately that was the latest he could do on the day................
Unlike the pond in the woods, this is the farm pond in the meadows (with a bit of woodland) and unlike the farm ponds that I fished before moving (there’s a couple on here that still fish them that will know where I mean) where the cows come in for a drink – here it’s sheep.
The day started off cloudy, gradually thinning off to hot sunshine and this showed that there are quite a few ‘feral’ type carp that came out to bask. Anyway, the short version – there are crucians in residence although I didn’t manage to temp any much over the (estimated) pound mark and some pristine condition roach to about the same. Another most enjoyable day with a mixed bag of at least 30 crucians/roach plus a couple of tench that were unfortunately a little too large to put more stress on Binks in the tiny tinca compition
. Fished ‘til 3pm..............
