I arrived at the water at 3pm and the sun was shining and there was a brisk south westerly...just how I like it for tench :). I made my way round to a shallow part of the water where the wind was blowing straight in my face. Anyhow from the off I was harassed by small rudd and perch, even with 12 maggots on a 14's hook they managed to engulf it. Eventually after catching god only knows how many rudd I hit into a tench which put up a spirited fight, even whilst playing it I could see it had a really nice colour, a lovely yellow belly which you don't seem to see so often these days. It wasn't a large fish but as it was the first tench of the year I weighed it at an ounce or two over 5lb. After a few more rudd and perch I hooked into another tench which like the first one gave a good account of itself but i'd say it was a pound or so lighter. The clouds had gathered and it was spitting and was obviously gonn'a throw it down so I wrapped up and marched back to the wheels on the double, just in time as the skys opened up as I closed the car boot !!

A return into the dark peak county of Derbyshire today where I was surprised to find it well attended with bivies, no real problem , its got space.
I set up as before and with a stiff breeze coming at me from the south west I was optimistic of an early result but angling being angling I waited until noon for the indicators to move vertically.
Missed whatever it was which was dissapointing but it was the signal for a hectic half hour of bites, some half dozen in all that gave me a big bream three redfins and a mugging from one of binka's best friends.
That was it!. Nothing right up to packing away but it's a nice place so I may have another trip or two but a lincolnshire stillwater is calling where I can fish tight to last years reedmace with mussel hookbait where some really nice roach oblige the patient!.

I'm in the same place MG....Too much other house stuff going on to get my head around fishing, and this will last for some weeks/months yet. If/when I get to the bank I start to think I should be at home doing something else. Not a guilt complex, just that a trip out for me starts and ends with a nice relaxed feel to the whole day, and not worrying if a plumber is going to turn up!!

Not a HDYGO subject, but then being a fisherman is not always about sitting next to water..........................Ah well..

No perch again for me this weekend, it would seem the love boat is still at sea with no sign of it docking anytime soon.

It was a noticeably better session than last week on the same water, this time I got on the end of the wind and not only did we have a decent starting temperature (as opposed to -1 the week before) but there was a tinge of colour too.

No big shocks with the rigs, the usual twin float set up just off the rod tips and despite a couple of headline events the day on a whole was on the lean side.

I caught the same, worm snaffling pike twice and I have a strong feeling I’ve seen him before, at one point the pike were mullering me but things settled down again and besides a lone b***m I also took one carp to each rod which tested the Drennan 3.3lb flouro hooklinks nicely, each fish coming in at 18-1 and 15-3…

I would have happily have swapped them for a couple of 2lb perch but they were marvellous creatures in their own right and the lack of anyone collecting day ticket money gave the day a quaint air of cheekiness.

There used to be an honesty box but someone nicked it! :eek:mg:

Well. I'm going tincaring again tomorrow.
Already got the first of my predicted 0 0 0 sessions.

But I have a secret bait ( apart from Laguna knowing) so i'll be either monster catching or sleeping again.

Graham, please........ they are tench so you are going tench fishing. Call me old fashioned ( or whatever else you like) but i do hate it when tench are referred to as tincas. Why this trend persists is a mystery to me.....nobody lusts after a 2lb Rutilus

Set off early this morning to try somewhere new which I had visited yesterday . I am sure my car is on autopilot because I ended up at my favourite and where I went last Friday. I caught about 25 fish mostly bream and skimmers and the rest roach . All were caught on 8mm pellet. None justified being weighed save for a bream which looked 5lb plus but which was in fact 3.5lb; that shows what a poor judge I am;)

It was shirtsleeves weather and whilst the geese were a nuisance I saw a pair of mandarin ducks doing what ducks do at this time of year. It was lovely to be out in the sunshine. I promised the wife I would be home by four so we could go for a long walk and now she doesn't want to go! Women; I could still be fishing:rolleyes:
