Well I'm not briming with confidence Skips.
matey on peg 1 (who had driven down from Suffolk) won the match by a long chalk with 11lb 4. Worth the journey, trousering £100.
But I thought Tinca tinca was the Latin name ?

If it is possible to go Tincaing, would that make roach fishing Rutting? Sounds alright to me, right time of year too.....:whmg:
A "Jerryesque" 9-3 session on a commercial
FFS Ian, you know I wouldn't fish any water out of choice 'til at least 10am and I certainly wouldn't fish a 'comme' at any time unless it was a group fish in................
No perch again for me this weekend, it would seem the love boat is still at sea with no sign of it docking anytime soon.
It was a noticeably better session than last week on the same water, this time I got on the end of the wind and not only did we have a decent starting temperature (as opposed to -1 the week before) but there was a tinge of colour too.
No big shocks with the rigs, the usual twin float set up just off the rod tips and despite a couple of headline events the day on a whole was on the lean side.
I caught the same, worm snaffling pike twice and I have a strong feeling I’ve seen him before, at one point the pike were mullering me but things settled down again and besides a lone b***m I also took one carp to each rod which tested the Drennan 3.3lb flouro hooklinks nicely, each fish coming in at 18-1 and 15-3…

I would have happily have swapped them for a couple of 2lb perch but they were marvellous creatures in their own right and the lack of anyone collecting day ticket money gave the day a quaint air of cheekiness.
There used to be an honesty box but someone nicked it!mg:
:w
Nice write up Simon.
Out of interest did the four perch make up the winning catch or did he add to them with anything else?
I'm in the same place MG....Too much other house stuff going on to get my head around fishing, and this will last for some weeks/months yet. If/when I get to the bank I start to think I should be at home doing something else. Not a guilt complex, just that a trip out for me starts and ends with a nice relaxed feel to the whole day, and not worrying if a plumber is going to turn up!!
Not a HDYGO subject, but then being a fisherman is not always about sitting next to water..........................Ah well..

Only had time for a morning session this weekend so an early start at the local club lakes was in order.
I arrived in the dark, breakfast butty and freshly made latte in hand and had a munch and slurp while the sun came up, watching the early rising fish show around the lake.
So as not to waste too much time I chose a swim near the car park (about 15 yds from the van to be precise) - slightly lazy I know but several big carpy 'spladoosh' sounds convinced me it was a good idea.
I'd decided to try out the whole 'only take one bait and plug away at it - it makes you more confident in that bait' thing as proposed by Steve Ringer or some other 'angling guru' that I'd read somewhere.
The chosen bait was basically pellets. I've got a bucket that I keep a pellet and particle mix in that I use for mini pva 'teabags' so that was the plan.
For those that like to know the gear was a Drennan Series 7 12ft Match Feeder rod, paired with a FD4000 reel loaded with 6lb Drennan method line. Hooklength was 4.4lb Drennan Fluro with a size 14 Drennan Super Specialist and a bait band. (I just realised that it sounds like I'm sponsored by Drennan!! Pure coincidence I can assure you.)
So on went a 3/8 oz bomb, threaded on my teabag and put a 6mm pellet on the band and first chuck was about 25 yds out in open water.
Loads of knocks and liners showing on the tip and then a proper pull-round. After a fight of 5 - 10 minutes fishy was in the net (not Drennan) and on the mat.
15lb 8oz of slightly podgy Common Carp
After that I had a couple of Roach to about 1lb, loads more knocks but that was it - time for Sunday Lunch.
At 59 I'm probably as good or bad at fishing as I'm going to get, but one thing I'm trying to improve is avoiding that “Why did I come her today?” feeling. It would be good to find myself in the wrong place/swim at the wrong time less often.
Like Sunday for instance. Arrived at windless lake under a cloudless sky. Club match on the East bank. Bivvies all along the North and South banks. “Chose” the available peg on the West bank. Owners having a big maintenance day, so began hammering scaffold poles into the bank at next peg. Leads landed in front of me as carp anglers demonstrated the range and power of their casting. Then guys got into a boat and rowed around the lake to put in algae -beating dye. While a mate flew a drone overhead to check the dispersal. And another drove a sit-on mower along the banks cutting the grass. Couldn't get a bite close in for couple of hours, so eventually caught 12lb or so of roach, skimmers and a tench fishing a slider at 20 yards where a few fish seemed to be hiding.
No complaints, It's a great place, and the maintenance is for everyone's benefit. but why didn't I anticipate what could be going on,on a Sunday flagged as the hottest day of the year so far?
