If you dont like the rod Ian I'll have it. You could get an unhooking mat then !

If it goes you have first dibbs :).

I have an unhooking mat Skippy, the fish were fine as they were, they were on the nets mesh and only out of the water for thirty seconds, never even budged when placed on the deck....don't worry, I know how to look after fish ;).

To be fair the fish could get more scale damage in a keepnet

Those wire covered platforms though are a nightmare, there must be a better alternative for fisheries to make the platforms non slip in the wet? As soon as a brolly gets put through them the wire gets frayed, we got them on a club water where mats are compulsory and still the odd fish can flip off and get damage, plus landing nets get caught on the frayed bits.

It is the flipping about that’s a worry on such surfaces, quite how Tiggs stops them from budging, he must give them a damned good talking to.:)

Yup, you are right, the wire cladding is a very bad idea, I hate the stuff!

A very cold wet day on the Wolds. It was more like winter. I struggled for bites AM with just a few roach and rudd for my efforts.
PM I had this cheeky chappy.

Then this interloper. They get in via a feeder pipe as fry.

Then 14 of these which were fun on a dibber and centre pin.

The rain even stopped to pack up.

Several hours in the same spot today with a similar result. I used a 11ft hardy avon smuggler rod today and it was great, it felt better than the quiver tip rod for controlling tench intent on getting into the reed beds.
It was colder today and there was a lot of drizzly rain with some real heavy prolonged hail and rain showers.

Fished the lake with my old fishing buddy Bhutto from 4pm till dawn when the imminent arrival of cyclone Fani forced the end of play.

I had made a paste from fish feed powder using Laguna's "Pondbond" glue adding 30 ml of GLM liquid. It appeared to be highly acceptable to the fish. We landed 17 fish from 2 lbs to 19 lbs 4oz for a total weight just exceeding 150 lbs, the bag consisting of Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common Carp, and Ghonia. We lost a few as well, one in particular, lost by Bhutto, was a heavy fish.

We fished six inch lengths of peacock quill with a single AAA two inches from the hook, a size 2 owner bait hook, at the rod tip. Bhutto fished with a nondescript 12 foot waggler rod while I fished a Maver 15-18 ft Reactorlite at its longest length. My extra reach did not seem to give me any advantage although the rod performed admirably in controlling the 19 pounder.

You have seen enough fish on the bank so a representative Catla will do:

Catla (Catla catla)

The Madhavilata (Hiptage benghalensis) creeper was in flower filling the air with fragrance, as was the bougainvillea.

The pair of lesser whistling ducks (Dendrocygna javanica) which nest there each year circled the lake at dawn with their "seasick seasick" calls.

The dark rain clouds of cyclone Fani were already appearing in the southern sky so Bhutto and I left the water to them.

All the best

Feel free to post more fish pics Lakhy, that Catla is stunning, if the others look as nice as that, even if they are smaller species it still going to take us on the adventure with you

Been today fished feeder and helicopter rig(a first for me)with rubber maggot, had 8 bream to 6lbs,the bad news is I lost three tench which cut me off on zebra mussels I think,I brought a clump of about a dozen up,which sadly lay drying up on the bank, poxy things...

Just to add,I think my rod choice yesterday was maybe wrong,I used a Normark Bob James barbel rod with the quiver section, worried about hooking carp,I'm wondering now if a softer feeder rod wouldn't have created such a vigorous spurt by the tench to reach deep water causing the cut offs,I was casting around thirty yards along the bank to a flat area around 8ft deep, which rapidly drops to 12ft,hence the mussels...
