Tuesday: Fished the Dam again but in the shallows for a change. Shallows being relative, it's about 5' one and a half rods out. A cold start and I wasn't really layered up enough but it was due to warm up so just had to put up with it for a while. Put some GB in and started around 6:30am picking up small Roach and a nice Bream of about 3lb+ at around 8am. The Roach stayed small all day the biggest probably just a shade over 4oz but enough of them to keep me occupied. I thought the ducks looked cuter than the Bream so took a pic of them instead.
It slowed down around midday til around 1:30 when Mr Pike put in an appearance hanging around the peg waiting for me to throw fish back in. It was there for the rest of the day. A lady fishing two pegs up from me had one in her swim. How they managed to have a Pike match earlier on in the year with not a single angler catching is beyond me. You can't fish for Roach without one putting in an appearance at some time or other.
I just had a gut feeling that if the Carp were going to put in an appearance they'd show around 2:30/3pm so reached for a pouchful of corn, turned back round and couldn't see the float. You know, those moments where your not sure if it's gone under or you've just lost sight. Then the rod tip starts going round. I strike into it, the drag starts singing and it slips the hook. Sigh, such is life.
Picked a skimmer up of around a pound and a half later on and a Roach Bream hybrid of around 2lb which put up a good show of itself. Handsome looking fish. Big shiny scales and no slime
Friday: Being a sucker for punishment decided to give the Bridgewater another go. After I think four blanks I wasn't building my hopes up but I'd baited up Thursday morning to give me a fighting chance. Fishing the far shelf which is quite wide in this spot, around 6:7M and 40" deep 2M from the bank, about as close as I can safely get with a 3bb waggler. Picking up some quite nice Roach with only the odd tiddler, I'd had maybe six or seven around the 10oz mark by the end of the day. A nice Bream guessed at just short of 5lb early on:
I'd fish for a while on the shelf then it would go quiet and start fishing down the centre track at 73" deep. Then it would go quiet down the centre. It went like that for most of the day, switching between one and the other.
Three small Perch, the biggest probably just over 4oz. The last Perch out had a bigger one snapping at its tail as I wound it in. 51 fish in total and a really enjoyable and unexpected day especially as the forecast downpour never really happened.
