I'm fine, thanks Tigger!

Wouldn't say the bite rates were slow - but I needed the alarm on - just in case I dropped-off waiting for the next one!

I was searching the tackle-box for ideas  - soon gave-up and went back to resembling the avatar!

.....You could say "just don't fish that swim again" but I love how hard the fish fight in it and the hit and hold situation, plus, I think there are some large ones hanging about there. A other re-think for next time I reckon.

How about imitating the Carpers and going for a coated braid leader and rig tubing where appropriate together with a serious mono mainline - this should get around the abrasion problems.

 I can understand how distasteful it may seem to adopt darkside tactics - but - needs must....etc.

Also - if you have access - any chance of a bit of bankside maintenance around the tree - just to remove potential snags?

Tight Lines

Yeah Mike, I have thought about doing that (only just been fiddling with the stuff), I have some snakebite coated braid in 15 and 25lb...had it for years . I've also got some 30lb powerpro that when pulled tight and scraped along the stone hearth holds up as good as the coated stuff! Failing that i've got some 80lb fireline  :eek:mg:.
It's the last 3ft that seems to be the danger zone so the 10lb fireline crystal I recently put on a pin should be sound enough for my mainline.
If none of those lines work then it'll have to be a wire trace.
There are a few trees and some are huge, work parties have done what they can.

15lb Amnesia might be worth a try, Ian. ;) Same diameter as standard 15lb mono but greater abrasion resistance and if you stretch it out it loses its reel memory so it won't coil up. It gets used for leaders for fishing over gravel bars and for cat fishing, amongst other things, so you'd expect it to be tough. It's not brittle like fluorocarbons so you should be able to use it in short lengths without getting cracked off. Whether it's thin enough's another thing entirely.:) I bought it to use for heli rigs instead of tubing where leadcore and braid are banned and it does a decent job of that.

This bloke likes the stuff: https://activeanglingnz.com/2016/04/28/memory-free-shock-leaders/

I'll ask at my local shops if they have any in to look at. I would imagine it'll be too thick in diameter for me though Rob. The swim i'm fishing is only shallow and is usually quite clear, the fish are pretty educated so in those conditions i've got to use as inconspicuous a set up as possible.

Some of today's fish from Upper River Bann. Ended up with around 25 fish on the feeder. Beats sitting in work :)

Went back to my former lake for an evening catch up with the owner.

Had a small mirror (about 8lbs), great dinner (he is a professional chef) and a bit of banter but the magic has gone. Won't be back again in a hurry.

Off to Poole for the weekend, playing around in boats and a bit of fishing for dinner.

Plan to do a bit of lure fishing for jacks during the week.

A week ago I fished over-night at a commercial rainbow trout pond, and continued the next day with 2 hours of sleep. Got nothing. Nice-looking place though, one of those trips to let mind really rest (even I didn't sleep that well). :)
(Wrote a blog-post of the trip, if anyone's interested! Link in my sig).

Have to say that I've had hard time to gather inspiration to go fishing after that, don't know if it was too exhausing or what? Even though 12-hour fishing trips in the past were nothing special to me

Well, I went to fish at one small forest pond this week, but I'm starting to think there is no fish in that swampy pond. I've caught only one perch this summer there...

I have kind of an obsession to small lakes and ponds at my area, and getting at least one fish out of them all. One lake I fished for years, before getting two pikes and one perch last year. I was satisfied, haven't gone there since. Missions completed? :D

I had the excellent company of Sam Vimes for an afternoon into evening on the river again recently.

It was still out of sorts though and after a fair old trudge to some good wading grounds Sam managed to string together some small chub, roach, perch and a few nice, chunky dace by running his float along a very nearside line whilst I struggled for a bite along the main riffle.

After a bit of a soaking as the rain swept in whilst we waded and did our best to stay upright in a very strong current, we then decided to head off again.

A good walk back to where we had parked and a couple of earlier fancied swims found them occupied on our return and so we made the best of what was available where Sam continued to take some small fish on the float and I was now finding a few too.

A cursed moment when I lost what looked like a good perch in the ten foot swim I was trotting, the flow was really hitting the bank in front of me and piling through with some power but the next good perch wasn’t quite so fortunate even though an almost straightened hook fell out in the net…

Not the best picture in the world but the thick end of a couple of pounds and very welcome on a difficult day on single maggot under the stick.

Thanks for the company Sam and as said, don’t leave it so long next time… I enjoyed the banter in the pub (both before and afterwards lol) :w

Not at all, thank you, I'll try not to.

If you'd not have beaten me to it, this was going to be subtitled "A short time ago on a river far, far away...... Episode V The river strikes back and a day of two halves."

I'll leave you with this instead.;):D

Very nice! Must have a look at a centre pin one day, perhaps after my first excursion to the river bank!

Ooooh... That is very naughty!

I will not succumb... I will not succumb...

Where's that bloody website address? :D

I still prefer the look of those you were using yesterday though.

It was the colour rather than the reel itself.;) I struggled to find pics of dark green Kingpins, though I've seen them in the past.
