The perch on the right with no clear stripes came from a muddy pond (all of the perch in this muddy pond were like this) and the one on the left came from a much clearer pond with lots of insect life and plankton and weedbeds.

Interesting bit of evolution, why waste energy on stripes if you don't need them.

Fish can and do change colour depending on their mood etc.
If you catch a deeply coloured perch and put it in a bucket, within a very short period of time it will usually go pale and loose it's markings. Same applies to most fish.

Fish in commercials are often paler than in other types of water. No doubt the light penetration in turbid water plays a part. But I also think, like the perch in the bucket, they're probably depressed.

Strange looking Carp that I caught from my local Barbel stream and which almost looks like it is trying to imitate a Barbel (unsuccessfully) with its underslung mouth, elongated body and the front part of its dorsal fin ;)

Here's its long lost cousin. A gruesome twosome.

This is one of the Chub I caught back in the days of the old Kings Weir on the river Lea before they replaced the weir with one of those horrible concrete runoffs.

Compared to you old veterans I’ve only been fishing a few years and haven’t caught enough memorable fish to add many more posts on this excellent thread, I don’t own a dog either!

Maybe any petrol heads will enjoy some pics of cars I was lucky enough to drive when a chauffeur and keeping them polished too! The red escort was my pride and joy back in the 80’s.

Thought I'd hooked the mother of all Perch when this snaffled my worm right under the rod tip...

Another handsome Common from the same water, caught in the same manner. It can be a slow water but I pass the time watching the distance casting displays from people who occasionally emerge from small green tents, wallop a lead a hundred yards and retreat back to their tent again...

I actually owned the escort, could only dream of the others. Mind you, having driven the Ferrari from Switzerland to the UK, I’d have the escort thanks. It looks a beauty but the 328 was a bloody uncomfortable drive, made for a midget, the stiffest clutch I’ve ever encountered and the steering was horribly heavy with no assistance, a different animal on the race track though.:eek:mg:

Wow, You did really great there catching that Carp on 2lb line Barbelboi

This was a low 20s common I accidentally hooked on a 5lb hooklength and size 14 hook whilst I was Tench fishing using the 1.5lb tip section of my Greys multi-tip rod on my local lilly strewn estate lake; together with a large amount of luck.

I managed to steer it around a couple of large lilly beds and managed to stop it going behind an island.

A couple of sneaky ones from the office, mowing the greens and getting the first stripe in nice and straight at around 3am in the height of Summer, love it!

Looks like a dream lawn for worming on a warm damp night

If my lawn was even a fraction as good as that lawn I would be in heaven; as long as I didn’t have to look after it and keep it so pristine :)

Carp fishing session from last Summer, used one of the thick straight wagglers which showed up very well against a changeable surface.

A bit too well in fact, it never went under all day!

I should have set out for Perch, that usually results in a decent Carp...
