I was in Homebase today ( don't ask :eek:mg:) with Mrs S and I noticed some caps and beanies with built in LED lights. Now I'm a big fan of these because I hate head torches with a passion but often these caps have too many lights and they're too bright. These ones were cock on......4 discreet LEDs but even better set under the cap brim so the light is directed downwards. Perfect for rebaiting or fiddling about after dark if you don't want to light up the entire county, shine light on the water or pi$$ the bloke off up the bank which is almost certainly me !

Even better....on closer inspection these turns out to be Panthervision caps which I was aware of but baulked at the price which is around £18-20. Homebase were knocking these out for a tenner with 4 extra free lithium batteries in addition to those already in the cap.
Nice comfortable cap too....which isn't always the case.

That's a bargain in my book. I had one.....I might go back and have another so I can have one in the zander bag and one in the barbel bag.

Sorry Skip, but these were on sale in Aldi for £8, same cap, i got one for myself. :)

I,ve just purchased what looks like a super mini ruckie from "Go army", just what I was looking for when I have the odd session on the river don or rother when all you need is a few odds and ends plus some snap.
Good too as an additional carrying item that can be attached to a low chair, completely waterproof ex Belgium army, approx 25 litres capacity, £6-50 plus postage check out their website !!

It's normally Rob, who entices me to buy something but having looked at allmy kit yesterday and planning on river fishing in 2017, i thought a waterproof backpack to carry the bare essentials of a reel, some hooks , floats and bait etc was justified. I had thought of using a large camera bag I have with redundant slr gear in it but that is not waterproof and wouldn't look the part. I have just ordered one ;) Thanks for the tip!:)

mike, I saw the same bag elsewhere on the internet but almost twice the price, the go army site has two other bags that would satisfy my needs at a future date when my old original whychwood ruckie finally wears out.
Ones today just dont seem as durable as they once were.

Flight I received my rucksack today and I am rather impressed with it! It appears strong and holds far more than I thought it would. I had put to one side some floats, line, end tackle and some baits and they all fit in. There is still room for a pin, flask and other bits. It certainly looks waterproof and I am sure it is.

I think it will be perfect for my sorties trotting if I ever pluck up the courage to do so;) All in all I am very pleased with it and thank you again for the tip. I just need the moral resolve to travel light and go even if only for an hour or so.;)

Sunday 15th January.
ALDI are selling a good selection of fishing clothing, coats, pants, hats etc.
Also some neoprene wellys, the salopet style fishing pants are very good, I've had mine a while, they keep you clean, dry, and warm.

Fishing pants ?:confused::confused::eek:

Well - what d'ya expect in this weather - I'm sure it'll get better as the weather improves! :D

I hope the Aldi sale has some of the long socks it had last year - highly recommended - particularly for those, like me, with big feet, - sizes 12-14, knee length, padded soles, warm! Ideal for fishing!

That is really sad to hear. Any idea as to why?

I remember when John closed his shop some years ago due to rising rents and rates.

In simple terms the syndication of Somerley and unavailability of The Several Fishery as a day ticket water substantially reduced the need to pop into a Ringwood tackle shop for tickets, tackle and bait. Rents may also be a problem. Martine reckoned she'd get paid more on the checkout of a local supermarket!

That is indeed a shame and I for one will miss popping in there from time to time for a chat and some bait.

It was one of the really good old fashioned tackle shops where you were always assured of a nice welcome.

I have used this shop when in the area on holiday always found them good for upto date info.

It’s the same with all types of shops everywhere you go they can’t compete with online shopping. The rent and rates have finished off many.
I wanted to buy a new rod today but the only tackle shop that stocks it is a 50 mile trip so looks like I will have to buy on line or spend £20 on petrol.
Unfortunately online wins.

A new landlord took the place (and a couple of the adjacent shops) over a year or so back and massively increased the rent. No longer viable....

John Eadie's in Salisbury is also closing down at the end of February after more than 45 years in the city.
