Another one here from the bargain consistent Bobco tackle.

I went into my local tackle shop earlier today and was a bit dismayed to find they'd stopped stocking Marukyu SFA400 krill powder, I've been using it for years and buying it from them at £7.99 a bag which I believe is the full retail.

The shop owner says it's due to them having to buy so much of it from the wholesalers so I had a shop around and found it here at £4.99 and with only a couple of quid p&p, as opposed to £3.99 from the Ebay sellers, I've ordered half a dozen bags.

I think the website is showing the old rrp given that my own shop, and many others are asking £7.99...

How do you use this stuff, Steve and does it make a difference ? Clearly you think so....I need a bit more convincing about this and any other additive.

I really does make a difference Skip, I'm convinced.

Two ways that I use it:

Dead maggot: Riddle off, replace the dust with krill powder and pop in the freezer in your usual way... I do it before as I believe the absorption takes place during the thawing process.

I've had bags of fish on deads that I really shouldn't have.

Live maggot: Riddle off, replace the dust with krill powder but do it a good day or two (temperature variable) before fishing so that they've had plenty of time to wriggle around in the stuff.

I used krilled live maggots on the Trent the last Christmas Day and had the best Christmas Day's fishing ever, I also used krilled deads on that new stillwater the other weekend and the results were very similar although I've been using 'em for much longer than that and with similar results.

Perch love 'em too.

I also add it to chopped worm...

I've never really been convinced about adding stuff to maggots as I dont really get how they absorb anything. As a consequence I hardly ever bother. I suppose I ought to at least try doing it though I dont use maggot very much and not in great quantities. The sort of fishing I do and where I do it just doesn't require it.

Do they do a version that repels carp ? That I would try !

I have posts on here dating back to when I could be considered as a fiercely official 'additive sceptic' Skip.

But times move on and so does experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the SFA400, just prepare your maggots properly instead of sprinkling it on at the waterside and expecting miracles.

I have to say though that Carp seem to love it too so best not used on waters where they are too dominant.

Is the krillpowder best on dead or live maggots Steve?

I honestly don't think it matters Mike, it's more about the application with regards to preparing the maggots properly.

Not overlooking the usual criteria such as presentation and a feeding plan.

I would go as far to say that deads might be better on shallow and heavily silted or hard fished waters.

Well....if it comes recommended by The Binkmeister then its got to be worth a go. I've ordered a couple of bags.

Aye aye.....our girl is on the Eurovision and there's a bit of a pitch invasion. She might get the sympathy vote while security beats up the idiots that rushed the stage.

Pink hair too...maybe she krilled it ?

Imagine wriggling your fingers in a bag of krill powder for 48 hours. Your hands would reek and it's hard to see how putting them underwater would be enough to remove the smell, you really would need to scrub them with hot soapy water. Anyway that's how i think it works, strong flavour + extended exposure = stink holds.

I follow your logic but I shall remain unconvinced until I've tried the stuff. I've an open mind at the moment. Its not that I dont think flavours/additives work...I know they can. Its how you get the stuff to work on live maggots particularly that I'm less convinced about.

If you accept that the scent would linger on human skin then i don't understand what you think is different about maggot skin?
