What's AS?

Deffo mangling Mike, I wasn't walking like a zombie and got this cold i'd be out hopefully putting a bend in it !
I plan on giving it a go asap, as I said I do know of places where only a short walk is needed and I don't think it does a cold much good being cooped up indoors for too long.

Browning Sphere Match Rods at Angling direct £194.50 and £199.50 only one of each left

Some of the bigger tackle bargains turned up in the weeks preceeding the black friday stuff. That Angling Direct Browning Sphere offer that was posted by Wetthrough a few weeks back was a whopping 51% off the RRP and still a fairly hefty 41% off the usual tackle shop prices.

A sea disgorger in a market for £1.50, I don't know if that's a bargain but never had one before and it looks useful as sea fish often get deep hooked.
And a pair of Mark Scheffel 30*50 binoculars for £2.80. Bloke in the junk shop said they were useless as you cant see anything through them but I realised the high magnification meant they only worked for long distance and a tripod because the field of view is very narrow. Nothing actually wrong with them and look brand new, might do me for a bit of wader spotting on the beach.View attachment 6054View attachment 6055

Those binos look something like those worn by Jack Hawkins in The Cruel Sea. That is some magnification but should, as you say, be fine with a tripod....

£2.80? Some bargain, that!

Its a funny old junk shop in the old town run by an old boy who does it for fun, I think he is quite well off by putting high end stuff in auctions and uses this old shop for odds and sods. He puts funny prices on things, its always £1.30 or£2.80 or something like that. I have bought quite a bit of stuff off him over the years, its a real treasure trove. He doesn't get much fishing stuff but the occasional old fishing book. The bino's where a bit of luck and not a mark on them or even the case. , I thought it was £28 when I looked at the ticket not £2.80 or £2.80 just for the case! Lovely binos, not often you see 30 magnification, 20 usually about the limit; he just thought there was something wrong with them; and I just forgot to tell him different..he is well minted so no conscience on my part, alls fair in love and junk.
Jack Hawkins The Cruel Sea (great film) , might be appropriate, its often cruel to me as I catch naff all.:)

We must all wonder sometimes why we save stuff for years, I certainly do; it rarely comes in useful. I have a carrier bag full of old reels and bits, spools etc that never see the light of day. However, looking in a junk shop the bloke had a bottom shelf cupboard full of old reels for sale for about £20 but one was for £5 because the handle was missing. He knows me a bit and said I could take it home to see if I had a handle that fitted. It was a Style E-9000 beach casting reel and looked similar to a couple of old Ryobi reels I had with busted guts but good handles. And one fitted perfectly and the reel looks brand new, not a scratch on it. So I went back and gave him the fiver. Three weeks ago I had no beach reel and now I have three for virtually no money. Should keep me going for a while.

A sea float or pike float for .50p, another junk shop find. Quite a haul lately, here's my £5 beach casting reel with line added and the new handle, not the right one but I like it, seems a bit big for the reel but something to grip when I am playing a big fish. Looks brand new, cant be bad for a fiver. And I was looking at the moon this morning through my £2.80 binoculars, 30 magnification without a tripod yet so a bit shaky, there was a big bright star next to it which I swear had rings round it but according to the internet it is Venus so, maybe stick to fishing instead of astronomy.

If you have an iPhone there’s an app that tells you all the names of the stars, planets and constellations just by pointing your phone at the sky. I’m now a bit of a Patrick Moore, any monocules in that junk shop?

Night sky is the one I use. Makes you realise what you don’t see with light pollution
