the micro perch have been my saviour on the lake...had a fun session with an old travel spinning rod and a nymph soft plastic....caught a couple of small perch and plenty of follows.
Last night after a warm day thought there would be a mudeye hatch so had a bash with the fly rod...ended up foul hooking a minnow on a mudeye pattern!...really thought there would be a lot more activity but not to be.At least the fly casting has improved a fair bit so wasnt a complete waste of time....

I had a visit to a nearby commy yesterday as It was rumoured to be turning up some nice roach.
Quivertipping red maggot I waited some twenty minutes for a tiny bite that never materialised so topped up the swim with some eight feeders of maggots.
Bites speeded up but they were pretty indecisive and hard to connect but a nice roach of about a pound kept me hoping for something a little better.
Later, after several missed bites It was hard not to miss a positive pull ending in a dropback and I thought initially that I was connected to a better roach but it turned out to be a short, fat, chunky perch, nice and something that will have my attention shortly but it was roach that were needing to show more interest at that moment.
The tiny bites were still showing and were frustrating to say the least so I decided to change the standard paternoster rig to a bolt rigged maggot job around early afternoon.
It worked, the bites became more positive and I ended with some really nice fish along with a couple of times when the tip just carried on going round and me not connecting but having to re tie my hook, probably on account of some mud gobbling niuscence. (Lol).
Anyway, an enforced early packup had me reluctantly leaving but hoping to visit sometime in the near future was a sure sign I had enjoyed my day.

I've been out a few times this week.

Tuesday saw an hour or so on the canal at dusk, where I tried a variety of tiny plugs after swapping the trebles for barbless singles. I stuck to the edge and tried lures of varying depths. One follow on the medium (0.4m) diving plug and what I at first thought was a twig followed the lure to the surface and turned away at the last moment:wh

Wednesday I went margin fishing for carp on the float in a small lake with a bloke who is very good at it. Bread flake over a tiny handfull of 3mm pellets 2 feet from the bank saw him a fish on the first cast. That was it for the day.

Today saw another blank as I had one of my last attempts at a Pike from a local gravel pit.

I had my last session pike lure fishing yesterday unfortunately it seems it will be the last session on this lake. There are plans a foot to turn it into some kind of water activity centre none of which would be compatible with angling.
I suppose once again market forces rule and angling does not bring in the money.

With the following 3 days looking like a windy washout I decided to grab a box of maggots and fish the canal today. Set up opposite a marina which is usually a good spot for some skimmers and roach..

Set up a waggler and plumbed the area close to the boats and the end of the gardens. Almost 5" deep. Maggot on a 20 first bite a gudgeon, second a half decent roach, then all gudgeon for an hour or two ...
One more roach then more gudgeon:eek:mg:

What a gorgeous Spring day to be out fishing, by 10am I had to lose the bib ‘n brace to avoid cooking myself and an hour later the jersey had gone too in favour of the shirt sleeves… Hard to believe it’s going to change so dramatically overnight.

I could have picked a better day to visit an old club water though, my oversight of the fact that it is set in a country park on what is also set to be the best day of the Easter Holidays meant that the world and his wife were out for a walk along with groups of whaling and generally disobedient kids.

I was getting a bit grouchy after an hour of it but after a quick tweak of the karma dial I settled down in the peace that everyone was entitled to be out and enjoying it which seemed to make things better.

I didn’t pull any trees up with the fishing but did enjoy a much needed session with a fair few bites on the waggler, starting off at about two rod lengths out and alternating in between on a dead cert dibber line beneath an overhanging tree…

Despite the long rod being able to poke right in there and a good four feet of water I really struggled with the dibber which quite surprised me, maybe the surrounding din was driving the fish further out but the waggler line did eventually come good after a couple of hours of working it and provided me with a dozen and a half small perch and a handful of smaller roach…

I did get to do battle with one beast though…

My deep filled Morello cherry pie which, despite being the size of a small hubcap and putting up respectable opposition, was duly polished off in one sitting…

Luvly jubbly!

Now then, where did I put those scotch eggs? :w

Fished my syndicate Reservoir today. Bit crowded. 2 Others already there! :)
Had my first 2016 tench, 5 chunky perch to 1 3/4 and 2 roach about half pound.
Spent a Lincolnshire fortune on bait. Worms from wormery/frozen maggots/2 slices of Tesco cheapo bread.
Saw a cattle egret, a buzzard and wheeling lapwings. Hottest day so far.
Magic.

On the reservoir again pike fishing today in brilliant warm sunshine - managed just one pike of 16lb 3oz on a sprat, fought like hell, covered in large leeches. Thought I'd get out before the next monsoon lands over this weekend - plenty of birds singing, saw my first butterfly of the year , a comma, & bumblebees searching for food.

And the man wonders why his chairs break ? It's not the bailiff you need to watch out for...its Jamie Oliver.

Peperami stick and cherry pie eh ? Is this what passes for traditional Easter Fayre among the Northern Hill tribes ?

I'm sorry to disappoint you, Steve but it's supposed to be 5 portions of fruit and/or veg a day.....not 5 pies ! :wh

Arr eh, Skip! He had 3 sticks of Pepperami, a Tatty n mate pie, and a cherry pie  - that adds-up to 5 by my reckoning!

Despite the easter bank holiday **** weather, I had a pleasant day's fishing with my Dad yesterday at Shorne Wood Country Park. There are two lakes in the park, Steps Lake and Long Lake both managed by TWAPS (what a great name for a fishing club). As it was blowing a gale we headed towards the more sheltered end of Long Lake.

We didn't manage to tempt any monsters and the crucians (of which there are meant to be a good number in the lake) were quiet. However it was non-stop action from the roach and rudd. Again, nothing huge but good schoolboy fishing fun.

Not angling, but related and my be of interest to some.
My wife is now involved in monitoring the local rivers and on one of her fly monitor trips on a tiny river she made a tiny but positive discovery. :)
